I am finally admitting defeat and going to hide FWR. Need some sympathy as that's why I joined MN in the first place, but cannot believe the absolute cess pit its become. So many posters who are even openly anti-feminist now, it's such a shame.
I would also like to know what MNHQ plan to do about planned campaigns to use the site to influence the election, Cambridge Analytica style. If anything. Maybe they don't care.

I’m out of the loop massively on this one. What’s going on on FWR?

tbh I’ve only ever dabbled on that board, they’ve no interest in anyone who isn’t in instant thrall to all their ideals. I’m too moderate for them and no interest in radicalism. Makes me a shit feminist apparently which is a shame because I have a vagina and everything!

I imagine that it is daring to suggest that the current government haven't been very good for woman and knowing what a woman is, is just a slogan, llike levelling up.

Piggywaspushed · 17/01/2024 18:57

I'm afraid FWR has made me reevaluate my ideas about feminism and my definitions of my own feminism so I hid the board a long time ago. As someone who has a trans sibling , I find comments on the board, and leaking out to other forums, actively damaging to my mental health, misinformed, prejudiced, harmful, often defamatory, inaccurate and above all hurtful. Reporting comments makes no difference, sadly.

Nothing in particular, just a nice thread full of islamophobia and accusations of being "bad faith" and "lefty" if you point it out. I'm particularly enraged by it at the moment because of the war and the Rwanda plan.

Piggywaspushed · 17/01/2024 18:59

I found Keir everyone! He's on BBC1 now.

pointythings · 17/01/2024 19:02

FWR is horrible - basically as long as you are GC to an extreme degree, you can pretty much say what you want. The real threats to women from this government, from restrictions on abortion, from all the other backsliding on rights that is happening world wide don't matter.

Piggywaspushed · 17/01/2024 19:04

I thought the push back from quite a lot of people on one of the recent why vote Labour threads against the FWR posse was quite cheering. There's a silent, reasonable body of women on MN - with a range of views on women's issues and identities who are usually silenced or scared to speak up for fear of correction. FWR has become extreme and as fewer and fewer people like adam post it becomes an echo chamber and those posters can assume all site members agree with them.

The big eye opener to me was the Cleverly threads on the two feminism boards which were entirely different from each other.

Cornettoninja · 17/01/2024 19:08

@AdamRyan you’re right, you’re best off out of it. FWR leaks often enough that you’ll still be exposed to it sadly, but it’s more manageable.

I imagine that it is daring to suggest that the current government haven't been very good for woman and knowing what a woman is, is just a slogan, llike levelling up

they ran me off there long before that rhetoric Grin

RafaistheKingofClay · 17/01/2024 19:22

Jane Stevenson, who you may remember last night resigned her position of PPS on principle, has told GB news she’ll be voting for the bill.

RafaistheKingofClay · 17/01/2024 19:33

I’ve been avoiding FWR like the plague for years. It’s one of those sections of the forum that has gradually got worse and worse.

Has Sunak repeated his honesty integrity and professional rhetoric, perhaps it inspired her?

Immigration minister Tomlinson has car crash interviews on Sky and R4, Best for Britain has a selection of clips on their twitter account.

Oh my god that R4 interview for me into work in a fuming state.

Apart from the fact he was an arrogant rude git his presentation style was more inline with a butcher trying to sell meat on a market rather than a minister trying to convince a country they are in control.

He was absolutely disproportionately awful

DuncinToffee · 17/01/2024 19:43

Sorry to hear @AdamRyan , I have given up a long time ago, probably around the time the board split in 2. It used to be very informative.

On the last Starmer speech thread, I got called a boy and was told to leave Confused

Did you hear we have a Space Minister? He took a journalist round the science museum where he kept pointing out all the planets. A poor employee had to keep correcting him' ermm, no, that's not Mars. That's the Sun'. He later said he couldn't be expected to know this stuff.

Do we also have an Illegal Space Minister or have they resigned in order to vote with the government?

Piggywaspushed · 17/01/2024 19:53

We'll be stopping the small spaceships next and sending them to Uranus.

Notonthestairs · 17/01/2024 19:56

Stop giving them ideas (although it would probably be cheaper than Rwanda)

That's a shame @AdamRyan. There are plenty of lefties on there; but some people like to pretend it's a left/right issue only. I always like your contributions.

Is it musk? I bet Rishi wants musk.

God can you imagine if he dusts off some century old statute to get Musk in the cabinet before he goes to the electorate.

Yeah but the US has a Space Force. We need to think bigger.

DuncinToffee · 17/01/2024 21:43

In the end, 11 Tories voted against the bill

Notonthestairs · 17/01/2024 21:51

This made me laugh - and it has the list of the 'rebels', all angling for a shadow cabinet position.

Every one of these people thinks that they represent the silent majority. A silent majority so large that it only exists in their heads, where there is plenty of space
