I haven't watched the whole thing yet but going by several clips, Sunak had another difficult PMQs

He even got told off by the Speaker for using props Grin

AdamRyan · 17/01/2024 13:55

Ooh. Maria Miller's question on NDAs was interesting. I've thought for a long time they shouldn't be available to the rich and powerful to cover up wrongdoing. There might be some conditions (not going to the press or tribunal) but imo they go too far and I have a sense more women than men are subject to them

AdamRyan · 17/01/2024 13:56

From sky;
^Sunak asked if he will ban NDAs in wake of Post Office scandalThe next to ask a question of Rishi Sunak is Tory MP Dame Maria Miller of Basingstoke.
She tells the House: "It's against the law to silence victims of crime, but that's exactly what the Post Office did through the use of non-disclosure agreements.
"And this is just the most recent case of NDAs covering up mismanagement, misconduct, and even crimes at work."
She asks the PM if he will consider "banning their use in all severance agreements once and for all".
Mr Sunak replies that it is an "important point" and "the ability to speak out about things is key to unlocking justice".
He goes on to say that while NDAs "can have a place", they should not be used to "stop victims of crime in particular getting the justice they deserve".
He says Justice Secretary Alex Chalk is looking at "how to best address this issue", which could include legislation, and says the House will be kept updated.^

Honestly I love Starmer:
Pressing him [Sunak] once again, Starmer said: "Spending 400 million pounds on a plan not to get anybody to Rwanda whilst losing 4000 people is not a plan. It's a farce.

Ashamed to say I read this on GBeebies. They don't seem to be Sunak supporters.

Me too. Our toxic politics are driving me to despair at the moment. I’m so grateful to all of you on these threads for keeping me sane. 💐

Hope everyone is ok, yy though some days with with benefit/disabled threads it’s stomach turning, another one who finds this thread a haven of sanity plus being incredibly informative & sometimes laugh out loud 💐

@jgw1 You do make me laugh !
The situation is heart breakingly serious in the UK but we need some light relief.

"a sort of one week on , one week off policy ."
Good one.

I am being serious.

Last week Sunak was all about lets increase climate change and have a vote on that which will increase migration, this week its all stop the boats.
In the summer it was one month on one off, now it is weekly, perhaps he will move to daily u-turns soon.

Elodie09 · 17/01/2024 17:24

@jgw1 I know you are serious and I do enjoy your ironic posts too.
It was really the thought that Govt can have one week of a policy being "on " and one week of the policy being "off" that struck a chord.
I think I am getting closer to the realm of thinking that things in the news surely can't be for real . it must be a wind up.
Watching the minister for illegal immigration this morning my DH commented that it won't be long before we have an Immigration minister for "It's a bit of a grey area " to go with the other two.

I have to say I assumed when they say Illegal migration minister they mean the migration minister is themselves illegal.

DuncinToffee · 17/01/2024 17:38

CCHQ latest smear on Starmer has duly been community noted but they are getting nastier, not looking forward to the coming months.

Elodie09 · 17/01/2024 17:43

Should have said Migration ministers not Immigration, sorry!

RafaistheKingofClay · 17/01/2024 17:48

The illegal in the illegal migration bill definitely referred to the bill and not the migration. It was very kind of them to make it so clear.

What did they say? Or was it the one about him prosecuting the postmasters?

OP posts:
RafaistheKingofClay · 17/01/2024 18:10

I think it’s probably the one about him invoicing terrorists.

Beth Rigby reporting Rees-Mogg has told her he’s voting for the bill tonight. Of course he is. They haven’t got a spine between them.

DuncinToffee · 17/01/2024 18:13

Yes, it's the one about representing terrorists for free

RafaistheKingofClay · 17/01/2024 18:19

If they take the terrorist in need of advice bit off the poster that ‘better call Keir’ part is ripe for Labour to exploit and post about anything in the country that needs improving.

Majority of rebels are going to vote for the bill. Apparently they risked toppling Sunak’s government and didn’t want to blow up the government.

If the Lord’s weaken it they will addd more amendments later. And presumably vote it down then. Definitely, probably, maybe.

Remind we why we Brexited and moved the political discourse further right to pander to these spineless halfwits.

Yes I've seen a version that says something like "In need of a new Prime Minister...better call Kier"

Notonthestairs · 17/01/2024 18:37

Hang on, I thought the Rebels were all about integrity and principles etc?

They were always going to vote it through.

But how brilliant, we've wasted yet more Parliamentary time & money on their interminable drama.

They are not very good at this rebelling malarky, are they?

Roussette · 17/01/2024 18:39

So where does this leave 30p Lee... was his resignation just a waste then?!

Or more likely he knew he'd lose his seat at the next GE.

Told you. Bunch of pointless leadership posturing, I hope they are crucified at the ballot box. Idiots.

AdamRyan · 17/01/2024 18:45

I am finally admitting defeat and going to hide FWR. Need some sympathy as that's why I joined MN in the first place, but cannot believe the absolute cess pit its become. So many posters who are even openly anti-feminist now, it's such a shame.
I would also like to know what MNHQ plan to do about planned campaigns to use the site to influence the election, Cambridge Analytica style. If anything. Maybe they don't care.

@AdamRyan I rarely venture on that board. Their definism of feminism has narrowed down to one single issue affecting a tiny % of people, and the hate is horrific. I don't blame you for hiding it. Meanwhile, your thoughtful and measured contributions elsewhere make you incredibly valuable, and I hope you will feel able to stay around on threads like this one.

So what they have achieved by this nonsense is to further weaken the electoral prospects of their party by making the party look divided, but ultimately they are all hot air.

Are they being paid by Keir?
