Every time I see Hislop I love him more. I wish he appeared on more political programmes.

OP posts:
Zonder · 11/01/2024 09:40

Me too. He's brilliant.

TooBigForMyBoots · 11/01/2024 09:59

I watched Peston last night and Ian Hislop was brilliant. Jess Phillips' face was a picture.Grin

Roussette · 11/01/2024 10:26

Jess Phillips' face, yes! She pulled every face possible! Ian Hislop was angry, don't blame him, he said what we all want to say.

ThatbloodyRoblox · 11/01/2024 10:51

Thanks for keeping these threads going. Still here but have nothing much more too add to the wise posts on here. I am however absolutely furious about the band wagon jumping, smearing and posturing over the post office scandal! 😡 FFS how long has this been known? Ian Hislop was brilliant last night on Peston.
In other news local electioneering is ramping up a bit around my area. We are in a newly made constituency and in a very blue shire. The MP next door is running from the yellow vote to us. It is 🤢 to see his sudden found interest in our little town.

IClaudine · 11/01/2024 11:30

It is hard to take isn't it @ThatbloodyRoblox ?

Things will get worse. I bet the Tories have teams of people dedicated to trying to find dirt on Starmer/ways to smear him.

What makes me really despair is how some of the die hard Corbynistas are now singing from the same hymn sheet as the likes of Farage, they are that desperate to smear Starmer.

I supported Corbyn, but that was the past, we can't change what happened. The task now is to GTTO and then take things from there.

Roussette · 11/01/2024 11:41

I've been listening to the Post Office Enquiry. They are interviewing one of the PO employees who put some of the prominent victims through hell. Calling them liars, not listening, sneering at them, pushing them towards admitting guilt etc.

I have to say... he comes across as the most unpleasant nasty man who is only just controlling his anger whilst being questioned.

IClaudine · 11/01/2024 11:43

I was just reading about that. I think he enjoyed playing some sort of Sweeny-esque hard man.

He seems to be saying the statements he signed were drafted by the PO and its lawyers. So he signed statements without knowing or caring whether they were accurate?

I’m watching this. It beggars belief that this investigator knew very little about the Horizon system. He comes across as a nasty bully.

Roussette · 11/01/2024 11:52

Yes. He's worked for the PO for over 40 years and how he conducted himself when interviewing the victims came across as totally unprofesssional. He didn't see himself like that of course.

TheOnlyMrsW · 11/01/2024 12:15

I mainly lurk on these threads (thanks to all keeping them going) but loving my MP being torn to bits by Hislop, he's a thoroughly odious being...........

DuncinToffee · 11/01/2024 15:07

The Wellingborough By-Election and the Kingswood By-Election will both take place of the 15th February, in 5 weeks time.

BIossomtoes · 11/01/2024 15:28

I know this is odd for this thread but I was so impressed with the Skidmore interview. He came across as a properly principled, old school Tory. Obviously that’s misleading because he’s stuck by them throughout all their shenanigans but it was easy to see why his constituents voted for him.

Just seen a bit, you're right. What a thoroughly unpleasant man. No contrition at all.

BIossomtoes · 11/01/2024 15:53

I see Gullis (majority 6,200) has suggested Gary Lineker stands against him in the next election. Go on, Gary, do it! Please do it! What a joy it would be to see him soundly trounced.

He does seem to have finally found his backbone and is thoroughly pissed of with the current government. He won't even endorse the Tory candidate for Kingswood.

He was stepping down in the GE anyway, I think.

Oh please let this happen & Gary Neville stand against 30p Lee.

Also enjoying this gbeebies ridiculousness:
https://www.gbnews.com/news/miriam-cates-lockdown-social-contract-schools-education

Cates hit out at the Labour Party for their role in the crisis, arguing they failed to effectively oppose school shutdowns.
“They did not want to reopen schools, they wanted more masks, more lockdowns”, she said.
“For Bridget Phillipson to come out and say ‘we need to get people back to school’, she is right, but we had no opposition.

“That’s why these measures were able to get through unopposed.”

All the fault of Labour, not her actual party.

(I was looking for an update on her investigation)

Does she post on here? The arguement seems familiar.
