Does she post on here? The arguement seems familiar.

Eh? She thinks that black people won't trust the NHS today if it turns out that some died of bubonic plague 600 years ago?

It's not like a plague style disease could happen again.............

If it did with modern technology and such an advanced health system as in the UK the impact would be minimal.

Kemi Badenoch is waging war on woke archaeologists

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/politics/2023/dec/13/badenoch-condemns-london-plague-study-after-mp-calls-it-woke-archaeology

People have had quite enough of experts, dontcha know

(The actual study is very interesting)

I just…. I just can’t. I think I vaguely gleaned what she was on about from the article around her words but her actual words sounds like she’s restricted to a bag of scrabble tiles. What the actual merry fuck is she on about and how is she drawing comparisons to today’s healthcare?

Cates hit out at the Labour Party for their role in the crisis, arguing they failed to effectively oppose school shutdowns

huh? We fucked up so that makes it your fault for not stopping us? Do they even hear themselves?

Fwiw I clearly remember Starmars stance during Covid (certainly during the height of it) being that it wasn’t the time for party politics and cohesion was needed to navigate the country. What. A. Bastard.

NEW Conservative-to-Labour switchers @jlpartnerspolls @timesradio focus group. Key points:

These switchers have left the Tories "for good", furious at lack of delivery of promises in 14 years of govt

Rishi Sunak has gone from a breath of fresh air a year ago to "typical politician who never answers a question", "out of touch", "spineless", and "false"

Sunak's new year election visits have been noticed - and have gone down like a cup of cold sick ("oily", "staged", PM "full of himself")

Tax cuts viewed as a "sweetener" just to get votes

Keir Starmer seen as "weak", "spineless", "unchallenging", "boring" and - above all else - as having "no plan". They are voting Labour despite Keir Starmer rather than because of him. Lack of plan/square one attack by Sunak was the only clip that went down well

The person who got the best reception - and is a threat to both parties - is Nigel Farage, seen as "relatable", "strong", shown to be "in touch" by time in the jungle. All bar one said they would vote for Nigel Farage if they had the chance

Tory win would leave people "gutted", Labour win a mix of "worried" and "hopeful". Hard to argue that - as the polling of direct switchers shows - these voters are coming back to the Conservatives any time soon

I know this is odd for this thread but I was so impressed with the Skidmore interview. He came across as a properly principled, old school Tory. Obviously that’s misleading because he’s stuck by them throughout all their shenanigans but it was easy to see why his constituents voted for him.

He was one of the co-authors of Britannia Unchained along with Truss, Raab, Patel and Kwarteng.

But yes he's certainly stuck to his principles on green energy. He was energy minister under May wasn't he? Admirable.

I'm amazed Sharma has stuck with them to be honest

That story is amazing. (I’ll get to checking out the research properly later.

How long do you reckon it took the director of the museum of London to stop laughing when he read the letter.

Apart from the fact that there seem to be at least 2 Tory MPs t are daft enough to think that research about the plague might affect health policy today she seems to think archaeologists use phrenology.

I also like the idea that the Guardian bothered to search the transcripts to see if anyone had ever used the term woke archaeology in the house.

Early entry for funniest story of 2024.

Also enjoying this gbeebies ridiculousness:
https://www.gbnews.com/news/miriam-cates-lockdown-social-contract-schools-education

Cates hit out at the Labour Party for their role in the crisis, arguing they failed to effectively oppose school shutdowns.
“They did not want to reopen schools, they wanted more masks, more lockdowns”, she said.
“For Bridget Phillipson to come out and say ‘we need to get people back to school’, she is right, but we had no opposition.

“That’s why these measures were able to get through unopposed.”

All the fault of Labour, not her actual party.

(I was looking for an update on her investigation)

But her party have the biggest public mandate in the world ever or something and an 80 seat majority.

Granted it’s not as big as it was…

How do these people manage to get through the day with this level of stupidity?

Now I have to say I happen to share Cates' concern that effective government does need an effective opposition for which to test their ideas against. My biggest concern for this year is that after the election there will be so few Tory MPs they won't be an effective opposition and will be somewhat distracted by trying to demonstrate who is the cruellest in the leadership bloodbath.

It is a wonder. At least one of them has demonstrated that he doesn't know how to use a credit card.

@AdamRyan i have to admit I’m curious to see how energised the gender debate remains in the event of a Tory defeat.

Badenoch is their great hope for next leader? I won't say she sounds completely deranged because that would be quite rude but 😂😂😂😂😂

Not going for emergency powers because threat of war so have to defer election I hope.

They still won't win, though.

So do I. I doubt Cates would share my enthusiasm for ditching FPTP.

Labour opposing would have made absolutely no difference at all and the underlying issue is that getting less than half the popular vote in a general election gets you an 80 seat majority.

NEW - I’m told Rishi Sunak has given permission for Labour to start access talks with the civil service. The party hasn’t actually requested them formally yet but the PM has given the green light

RafaistheKingofClay · 11/01/2024 20:45

That was the thing Case asked him to do before he went off sick and Rishi refused. Maybe he’s reaching the acceptance stage.
