I just wanted to shout out to all poor interns tasked with running ministers x accounts. Hate to say it interns, but you’re going to have to tell them about community notes - they’re making right twats of themselves.

newnamethanks · 10/01/2024 12:50

What are you saying piggy? We are all missing the point, everything is actually the fault of Jeremy Corbyn. Such a long time since that was aired, thought it might be nice to rehearse it once more.

No, interns, don't tell them. It's not as if they've any idea what they've 'written' on their X accounts. Let it come as a lovely surprise.

Lindsey Hoyle accidentally called Starmer Prime Minister at PMQs. He’s a bit early.

For once LH gets something almost right!

There's been a lot of nonsense spouted about Labour's £28bn green investment plans. And doubtless there'll be lots more nonsense spouted in the coming months.
With that in mind, here's my primer on the plan - and its affordability.
No nonsense. But maybe one or two charts...

might come in handy, I thoight

RafaistheKingofClay · 10/01/2024 19:00

If Elon could create a way of organising all the bookmarks I've made on Twitter that 'might come in handy' that would be good.

pointythings · 10/01/2024 19:33

Elon Musk got community noted in a tweet about the % of traffic X directs. I'm not sure my brain can handle that much existential irony.

RafaistheKingofClay · 10/01/2024 20:15

There's a list X published last week, I think, of the accounts that are most community noted. Musk is on there.

Tories haven't got themselves there yet. But watching either the Downing street account or any Tory MP get themselves near the top of that list amongst well known conspiracy theorists and disinformation sources is going to be quite fun. As long as the grown ups take over this year and we can get our reputation back.

DuncinToffee · 10/01/2024 22:50

Argh, I wish I had read the boring Starmer thread in politics before engaging with paul.

AdamRyan · 10/01/2024 22:57

Haven't seen it but he seems a bit.....unusual

Just saw this on Facebook.

Thread 35 - Sunak, the squatter

That’s brilliant. I notice that line’s being used less frequently now that it’s so robustly challenged every time it’s produced.

Took them long enough!

My county council has issued a statement warning about the stresses on its finances (despite cost cutting & recruitment freeze etc). Council tax will rise again. They are going to use reserves. But they are struggling with the escalating cost of statutory services, inflation and general costs increasing.

It's a common picture I am sure. Like most people I won't be exactly thrilled when my council tax rises yet again.

No doubt there will be those that suggest my council is the problem although there is currently nothing I can see that suggests that. It's been Conservative led for 25 years.

You just can't cut central funding as it has over the last 13 years, increase statutory services and expect the same level of service.

Since we've lived here (15 years) educational psychologists working in our area have gone from 39 to 20. So case loads have increased. The system slows down. It's deeply frustrating to watch.

That's just my grumble for the morning.

Zonder · 11/01/2024 08:50

I'm right with you there @Notonthestairs I work for our county council and it's shocking how much things have been underfunded for the last decade. They can't do magic with less money.

You would think if you knew you were going on a programme with Ian Hislop who is highly intelligent to discuss a topic which Hislop is hugely knowledgeable about, you might have taken a bit of time to know something about the topic.

Zonder · 11/01/2024 09:18

The extent of their feeling of entitlement is extremely large @jgw1

Its reminiscent of some posters on here. They come on and post the latest fashionable line, but when one tries to engage them in a discussion of the topic they have nothing more to offer and get terribly upset.

Exactly - you can't do more with less, but that is what is expected. Then blame the council for struggling.

Or just listen, acknowledge the failures & take some responsibility.
It didn't have to be adversarial - that was Berry's choice.
