So they won't tell us how much the Rwanda plan will cost (which means it will cost more than they have told us)
AND
the same people who won't tell us about the cost also don't believe the plan will work?

It is important to remember that the aim of the plan has nothing to do with immigration, but is instead a dogwhistle for those who might otherwise vote for Reform or some other far right group that they should vote Tory.

Notonthestairs · 10/01/2024 07:53

Well they've never been exactly transparent about the costs. We only discovered the additional payment of £100 million because Rwanda had to report it to the IMF.

🚨 Confirmed at Liaison Committee with PM that it was only revealed to MPs that the Government had paid an additional £100m to Rwanda in April for the asylum programme because Rwanda had informed IMF of a material change to its public finances in Article IV review 👇🏽

It was nice to have a former immigration minister on the radio this morning stating clearly that as a member of the party of breaking the law and creating disorder he would like the government to break the law.

DuncinToffee · 10/01/2024 08:49

The 'why didn't Starmer' is evolving on twitter in a funy way, a Tory gift to Labour.

L1ttledrummergirl · 10/01/2024 09:08

I've just lost a long reply. The pensions minister had his arse handed to him on breakfast. He was rolling his eyes, passing the buck and kicking the can down the road.

He clearly didn't listen before he went on air and was quite rude to people who've had their lives destroyed.

£600,000in full and final settlement is derisory. Whatever a post master annual salary is now, multiply by 35 years for career and pension lost plus some compensation and you might be closer to a fair figure.

Roussette · 10/01/2024 09:14

These community notes on Twitter are brilliant.

I bet the Tories hate it. Priti Patel being caught out big time

There is a lot of squirming going on on Twitter and apparently in the Telegraph (or Times, not sure which?) trying to blame Starmer for the PO scandal. Some of the die hard Corbynistas are joining in. I think they would rather see the Tories win than Starmer get in.

RafaistheKingofClay · 10/01/2024 10:08

I think you’ve all forgotten that Starmer has been PM for the last 14years and clearly doing a shit job.

Hollinrake?

I watched the whole 45 minutes this morning on BBC2. He said a lot but the overall impression I got of him was that he was so dismissive.

The sub postmasters stories were honestly heartbreaking, it was enough to bring anyone to tears. Brave brave people.

RafaistheKingofClay · 09/01/2024 20:46

I do actually have a concern over Starmer. He says politics should tread a little lighter on people’s lives so they don’t have to turn on the news 5 times a day.

What the hell are we going to do all day and talk about? Anybody remember what we did before we triggered article 50 with no plan and all hell broke loose?

My house was tidy and my kids were well fed. These days we live in squalor and they get a bag of prawn cocktail crisps for dinner, with the occasional packet of custard creams on a slow news day.

jgw1 · 10/01/2024 11:00

What I don't understand is why anyone wouldn't want to be able to access all the services they use most often within 15 minutes of their home.

Is it the same logic that says that the Tories are the party of women's rights?

DuncinToffee · 10/01/2024 09:16

Hollinrake?

He has been really concerned about the Horizon scandal for a long time, which is why in November he wrote to the Chancellor about it, not suggesting any of the solutions that he has been working on for a long time. (That long time being about 48hours).

I did quite a lot of feministing. But the boring old kind, where I complained about things like giving alleged sex offenders anonymity before conviction, or expecting women to wear heels at work, or that maybe sex work and online porn isn't a positive force for women.

I also complained a lot about the Weritty sniffing antics of my MP, Liam Fox. He seems fairly moderate now, which blows my mind Grin

RafaistheKingofClay · 10/01/2024 11:26

Somehow only just discovered Starmer is an Arsenal fan. As a lifelong Spurs supporter I may have found my line in the sand.

Andy Burnham for PM Wink

newnamethanks · 10/01/2024 12:17

Voting for Andy here.

L1ttledrummergirl · 10/01/2024 12:19

PMQs- Surely Sunak and the Conservatives are just trolling the country now.

Can we not community note them for what they say in the commons?

Leader of the SNP just hit the nail on the head. The Public don't trust Westminster.
Sunaks reply was trite.

They are taking the piss.

Sometimes good guys make mistakes...

Clearly a really shit job since none of us noticed 😉
