I like your entertainment unit as well.

Are you taking the photo from the doorway? How do you feel about the rug when you are sitting where you usually do? You might like how it looks from a different viewpoint. Do you usually have a dogbed in the room? Even the dog lying on it has broken it up.

Spaghettieis · 02/01/2024 16:47

Can you take a picture of the whole room, with the panorama or 0.5 zoom maybe? It looks too big in that one section of the room but I’m wondering how it would look centred in the room between the sofa and the tv unit (ps love that the dogs have their own seat on the sofa 😆)

You've done such a lot to your house, OP - it looks so much better now. How have you managed to do that, financially? I always fancy having a complete revamp but it's so expensive.

There's a few bits I'm still paying for. I don't smoke , don't drink , I don't go out . Don't drive .

The colour clashes with the flooring. And I'm afraid I really don't like the wallpaper. With rugs, I'd prefer a patterned rug with plain walls. Plus plain sofa with patterned cushions. All toning colours. I'm not good at putting things all together and the only way I can usually do it is to literally copy a room set up I've seen on pinterest or insta or on something like the Farrow and Ball website.

Run the hoover over it a couple of times and then see how it looks.
Sit yourself down with a cuppa and see how it feels.

You just need to get used to it. Then decide.

And it's impossible to judge from a single photo so ignore all the unhelpful negative remarks on this thread.

Yeah worth a go.

It goes very well with the dog!

That was the aim 😅

Choosing colours based on them not showing the dog's dirt is a bit grim! Is that why you chose the black sofa?

Yeah it was how did you guess 👏

I think that some cushions in gold and a slate blue (to match the print in the wallpaper) would pull it all together.
And I agree with the PP to try centering the rug in the room.

AuntySueDoesntGiveAShit · 02/01/2024 17:00

I think it looks ok now that you've turned it round.

Dependabledentures · 02/01/2024 17:00

I do t think it's too big. It's a standard Rule that rug should fit under edges of sofa. So if you have them overlap a but will look better. I agree coffee table and also some greenery would soften it. I assume you went for the carpet to pick up the accent in the wallpaper. I think if you change the curtains to something quite white with a hint of gold/ copper then it would feel less like the black sofa and curtains were in a battle with the sofa.

Goddessonahighway · 02/01/2024 17:00

I really like the footstool idea. They are so handy as tables or extra seating. You can take your time and see if there's one that catches your eye. Ps I really like your wall paper.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 02/01/2024 17:02

Oh I've just realised who you are after doing a quick search (other posters seemed to be referring to previous posts that you'd done). I remember your intitial post of your kids' bedroom, and not seen any updates till now. It's fab! You're doing great! I think a lot of people posting replies who don' tknow your posting history are being very picky as if it's on the Home Decoration board ( I must admit I hadn't noticed it was in Chat).

SnowyMcSnowball · 02/01/2024 17:04

Also, just to add (I've shown you a pic of my rug with poufee and tray) as may be worth a look. My rug is an indoor/outdoor one so is actually wipeable! You'd never know from looking at it, it looks like a proper flat rug but the fibres are wipeable (mine was off Wayfair) I also have a dog that likes to run in from outside with no consideration 😂 so that might be another option. I find it really practical!

Marchbug · 02/01/2024 17:05

I would do a couple of little tweaks

  1. cushions in the background colour of the wallpaper and maybe the darker blue too.

  2. A plant by the window in a large dark blue pot

  3. Footstool in the grey from the wallpaper with a wooden tray on as pp mentioned

  4. Some photoframes in blue/mustard on the unit at end of room to tie that in, and maybe some different colour pots for your fake plants

I think this would tie it all together and make it look more complete

Looks like you're trying really hard to make things nice and I think could be a lovely room

Yeah took it from near the door . There's no harm leaving it down for a few days. No don't have a dog bed. Used to she just ignored it

Something like this?

Rug does not look right?
BingoMarieHeeler · 02/01/2024 17:10

Oh I actually rather like the second photo, whatever changes you had made! And I like the other side of the room with the TV unit too. It’s quite a bright/bold rug but if it was in my house the kids and dogs would dull it down soon enough 😄

AuntySueDoesntGiveAShit · 02/01/2024 17:11

This would look nice, obviously in colours that compliment your scheme

Thank you . Yeah definitely getting there. Yeah I'm not worried about picky posts . I'm.not going to change the whole room for the sake of a rug. If I can't make it work I will take it up.

Edited

My kids and dog are dulling it as I type . There's even been snow angels

It looks much better in the second photo. To make it even smaller is it possible to drag it under the sofa even further let part of it rest on the wall behind the sofa (the end where the child and dog was sitting)..or would it be visible from the other side/outdoors?

Flowersbutpain · 02/01/2024 17:22

Honestly, don’t like the rug OP but LOVE LOVE LOVE your gorgeous dog

It's not under the sofa at all I just folded it to see what it would look like

Ohh, that low padded footstool is lovely.

I sometimes think that when you have dogs and children it's easier not to have things you are absolutely in love with as you're not precious about them then. I bought a cheap dining bench in completely the wrong colour the other day, and my 5 year old loves it. It's now her seat and she's getting food on it and does her colouring sat on it. And I'm not bothered.

ApolloandDaphne · 02/01/2024 17:25

It looks so much better in the second picture. I would just leave it for the time being. Don't waste money on another rug. We have all made decor mistakes that we have had to live with.
