There's bigger problems in that room than the rug

So rude

It's too big and the colour is jarring against the black sofa and curtains. It matches your dog beautifully though.

Thank you . I love my dog 🤣

It looks quite bachelor like with the stark black sofa, black curtains and dark wallpaper. You need some sort of natural colour in there, like wool rug in a linen type of colour and some cushions on the sofa in olive green and white or something. A coffee table would also help and some plants. It has a very harsh and not very homely look at the moment.

I'm just gonna take it up I think. Its to much fuffing about. I can't get it under the sofa . Even if I wait for adult ds to pop over and help me I then have to rely on him every time I Need to move it to clean etc . It's just going to be another hassle.

Curtains are not black , I have fake pants they are other side of the room . Also the wall colour looks kind of grey on the photo but it's not. I'm definitely not doing coffee table . Someone up thread mentioned about a large foot stall type thing.. so I might do that

Actually OP I think it could work, I would go with the idea of sliding it under the sofa, get a nice coffee table and a few contrasting cushions.

Your house is really coming on! Its looking homely, warm and comfy, don't give up and also remember that most of us make the odd mistake decor wise, at least you are now living in lovely surroundings and building a happy home.

BaronessBomburst · 02/01/2024 15:48

I think a much smaller rug in a lighter colour would work better.
I've added in some plants too. 😊

It maybe that it's too big?
I put a pouffe on mine with a nice wooden tray on top so works as a coffee table most of the time. Obviously not to everyone's taste, but I just move the tray off when I want it as a foot rest.

@thebabessavedme thank you . I think I might Just take it up . Putting it under the sofa makes alot of sense as it would make it smaller in the room . But i can't get it under on my own. And it's gonna cause issues whe I Need to clean as well. I didn't really think it through .

Defo too big, you need a much more even space between the sofa and the rug

JenniferJupiterVenusandMars · 02/01/2024 15:57

It’s rather too dominant OP, like @catotangent says, it looks like sand (and the footprints are intriguing but could become infuriating in time!)
I would prefer a rug a third or a half as big.

I'm gonna take the rug up. I might put a plant where you suggest though . But closer to the curtain

Yes I could do something like that .

The warm golden colour of the rug clashes too much with the cool-toned grey floor and stands out too much against the very dark sofa.

I think it may be tricky to find an ideal rug just because of the combo you’ve got. The sofas are large, dark, heavy-looking leather while the wallpaper is a tropical pattern on a light background that would typically be paired with smaller, lighter-coloured furniture. (Please don’t take that the wrong way, I just mean in terms of styling things together.) I know you said no white, but could you do a light cream rug? Perhaps a smaller one that would be easier to keep clean with the dog(s)? Lighter curtains might help tie it all together too, if you’re open to swapping those.

I also like the dog. What is his/her name? People always tell me that my dog matches my decor. I always point out that she’s the one that puts hair all over it so it only makes sense to colour match.

I think it's the wrong colour and too big. I think it needs to stop where the sofa ends.

BringItOnxxx · 02/01/2024 16:02

I like the wallpaper and the sofa looks really comfy. I think the idea of a smaller lighter rug is good.

Andthereyougo · 02/01/2024 16:03

I love your wallpaper. Rug is just wrong size and colour, there’s other rugs. And your dog is bloody gorgeous.

Freefree · 02/01/2024 16:04

The wallpaper is nice, the dog is absolutely beautiful 😍..the rugs not nice, I would just send it back and get a different smaller one.

I'm not going to have a rug at all now . I'm really got it to cover up a bit of the floor where it's damaged . I can't fix that at the moment so just wanted ti cover it. But its not worked .

I can't do creams either. The door leads right to the garden and the dog does not wipe her paws it just going to be hassle. Her name is sky.

Gosh just going to be completely honest…. I think we need to send in the neutral team to do a complete make over!!! Sorry. I know that wasn’t what you were asking for.

Agree with others that the rug is too big, the colour doesn’t go with the black(gimplike) sofa.
