If you can't return the rug and get something smaller, could you turn it the other way and move it under the sofa facing the patio doors? Then cleaning would be easier (you could flip it onto the sofa), although I have a large heavy rug and hoover it and clean the floor around it without lifting it. I even use the carpet washer on the rug in situ.

Calmdown14 · 02/01/2024 16:13

You won't need to lift it to clean. The other two corners will lift far enough for you to hoover under the edges

I think if you can get it sitting right it will be nice. It's a bit wavy just now but they all take time to flatten out. Put a couple of heavy books on it.

You might be able to do it one side at a time. I managed mine that way as I could manoeuvre it a bit once under one foot.

fullcirclearoundourstar · 02/01/2024 16:17

Could you do a round rug, where the edge is where the sofa ends?

It goes very well with the dog!

Get something smaller in a non neutral colour, so blue or green, or red or orange, the rest of the room looks neutral so I think you could choose anything really.
I find it so hard finding nice rugs, I need one but can't find the right thing.

Move it more under the sofa in both directions - backwards and leftwards. Will look much better. Also get coffee table and maybe a pouffe or floor cushion to soften things and break up the block colour.

This is the way forward I think.

CheersToAMerryChristmas · 02/01/2024 16:24

Run the hoover over it a couple of times and then see how it looks.
Sit yourself down with a cuppa and see how it feels.

You just need to get used to it. Then decide.

And it's impossible to judge from a single photo so ignore all the unhelpful negative remarks on this thread.

Shithole101 · 02/01/2024 16:26

I tried to make it smaller. It does not look right still its definitely the colour as well

I'm not going to have a rug at all now . I'm really got it to cover up a bit of the floor where it's damaged . I can't fix that at the moment so just wanted ti cover it. But its not worked .

I can't do creams either. The door leads right to the garden and the dog does not wipe her paws it just going to be hassle. Her name is sky.

Choosing colours based on them not showing the dog's dirt is a bit grim! Is that why you chose the black sofa?

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 02/01/2024 16:27

I think something about half the size, similar colour but a different texture would work well.

Imamastermind · 02/01/2024 16:28

The dog likes it 😁

Jacfrost · 02/01/2024 16:28

But there's not much you can do now the dog's been on the rug, you can't really get a refund can you

Scarletttulips · 02/01/2024 16:29

I have fake pants they are other side of the room

Lets see them!

randomstress · 02/01/2024 16:29

I don't actually think the color is bad, it picks up the gold in the wallpaper.
I would pull the sofas away from the wall a bit rather than having them jammed in.
A large footstool, maybe a large plant and I think it will look nice.

I just kind of dine that to see what it would look like its still shit 😅

You've done such a lot to your house, OP - it looks so much better now. How have you managed to do that, financially? I always fancy having a complete revamp but it's so expensive.

ThreeRingCircus · 02/01/2024 16:33

I actually think if you move it under the sofa in both directions (back and left as PPs have said) and if you get a circular footstool in a grey or navy then it will look absolutely fine.

Don't worry about moving it to clean, you can vacuum the majority of the time and if you need help moving the sofa anyway it's not adding much work.

You're doing really well and you're definitely getting there creating a safe and cozy home. Don't give up.

@Scarletttulips could probably do with bigger one near the window to be honest

I actually think looks much better now, and if you got a footstool as someone suggested with the tray, a few cushions too and a fake plant by the window then it could look really good

Marchbug · 02/01/2024 16:37

Try moving the plant stood in front of the unit?

Nice doggo 😍

Frangipanyoul8r · 02/01/2024 16:38

It reminds me of diarrhoea. It’s an awful colour that jars with everything else in the room. Nothing you do is going to change that. Sorry.

That looks better though.
