So today me and hubby decided to sit down and watch saltburn. Thank god we decided to watch this just the two of us and not with his or my parents.

it’s the strangest film I’ve ever seen. I adore strange films and my previous weird film which I loved was ‘dogtooth’

this one really goes above that for strangest.

so tell me your weirdest. Strangest films you’ve ever seen!

PS. Has anyone else seen saltburn? What did you think?

Tusk.
Just Google it.

puddypud · 27/12/2023 22:39

Mandy with Nicholas Cage.
The Lobster with Colin Farrell

The House That Jack Built. Amazing. Very weird. Very scary.

puddypud · 27/12/2023 22:41

Men with Rory Kinnear. Revolting

Crushed23 · 27/12/2023 22:47

Just finished Saltburn - loved it!

Whatineed · 27/12/2023 22:57

Oh and I completely forgot:

The Greasy Strangler. 😂😂😂

Other films I've enjoyed but others found plain weird were:

The Invitation (one of my favourites)

The Wicker Man (of course 👌)

The Devil Rides Out

The Feast (Gwledd)

You should have left

The Ritual

I'm a sucker for Folk Horror, Skandi dark comedy etc though.

I thought it was a bit shit and derivative. I didn't find it strange at all. There was a Lars von Trier film that was strange a few years back. And of course There will be blood.

Antichrist?

A Field in England was pretty weird

The scene where he comes out of the tent is....I don't know what the word is but it definitely stuck with me!

Great bit of cinema

Queenofnothin · 27/12/2023 23:04

The Lobster
I’m Thinking of Ending Things
The Idiots
Happiness

I’m dying to watch Saltburn.

Just checked and there are 2 films called Freaks. The one I love is the 1932 film.

Can't believe it's nearly 100 years old.Shock

The old 'Freaks' is brilliant! Absolutely loved it, as did my son at age 17.
It inspired a Marillion song called 'Separated Out' and their fans are generally referred to as 'Freaks' (after the single of the same name released in 1988)

covetingthepreciousthings · 27/12/2023 23:06

Has anyone on this thread watched Bones & All? I really loved it, but not sure I'd recommend it to people as it is very odd.

Also loved Saltburn, any fans of that should definitely check out Emerald Fennell's other film - A Promising Young Woman, also brilliant.

ColinRobinsonsFart · 27/12/2023 23:08

Weirdest film

The phantom of liberty

Saw it in the 1970s when I was a child....stayed with me since

RenoDakota · 27/12/2023 23:10

Just watched Saltburn tonight because of this thread. And was very pleased and surprised to find that it is free on Amazon.
Absolutely loved it.

GymPanda · 27/12/2023 23:13

Loved Saltburn! Disturbing but not particularly weird 🤷🏻‍♀️

Weird films I have enjoyed include
Lobster
Train to Busan (Korean zombies)
Parasite

N4ish · 27/12/2023 23:16

Peeping Tom by Hitchcock is incredibly weird and disturbing. It’s from 1960 so done in very lurid technicolour which makes it seem even more distasteful.

MixingMimosas · 27/12/2023 23:21

Midsommar

scoobydoo1971 · 27/12/2023 23:27

I watched David Lynch's Blue Velvet when I was a teenager, and it freaked me out then. It still has that effect.

Jingleballs2 · 27/12/2023 23:29

Watched killing of a sacred deer recently, weird I agree

Dogtooth, really weird but love it

A Serbian film, watched to see what it was all about. Definitely made for the shock factor and a terrible film all round.

I havent seen antichrist mentioned, anyone seen it? Definitely weird and graphic

TruthRevolution · 27/12/2023 23:29

Definitely the human centipede. Happened upon it one night and felt compelled to watch it all. Very, very odd!
I think I thought it would get better 😂

Dreamweaving · 27/12/2023 23:44

Aw Barbie & Princess Mononoke are not weird in the slightest!
Beyond the valley of the dolls , velvet buzzsaw & Pink Flamingoes - camp/weird
Eraserhead-slightly weird but endearing
Suspiria- weird

Lotrehin · 27/12/2023 23:56

The one where that André Rieu fella stands in front of an orchestra and they go around the world playing the same tunes over and over again and never getting any better.

Mulholland Drive was weird too.

And the effects in Total Recall do my nut in. I don't know what it is about them but they really freak me out. It's old technology now but there's just something about that film. I love it.

BabyPigeon · 28/12/2023 00:11

I also love Florence Pugh, have you seen The Wonder? I would say it's pretty weird but also very sad.

afrikat · 28/12/2023 00:12

The Happiness of the Kakaturis. Sooo weird but I loved it

YouStupidGirl · 28/12/2023 00:17

Dream Scenario with Nicolas Cage which came out at the same time as Saltburn.
A nother Nick Cage film comes to mind for me- “colour out of space”. Such a strange, unsettling film. The scene with Joely Richardson transmorphing(?) with her son is horrible.

YouStupidGirl · 28/12/2023 00:19

Promising Young Woman, also brilliant.

Such a brilliant film, Carey Mulligan is amazing.
