So today me and hubby decided to sit down and watch saltburn. Thank god we decided to watch this just the two of us and not with his or my parents.

it’s the strangest film I’ve ever seen. I adore strange films and my previous weird film which I loved was ‘dogtooth’

this one really goes above that for strangest.

so tell me your weirdest. Strangest films you’ve ever seen!

PS. Has anyone else seen saltburn? What did you think?

@Cerealkiller4U you should be it's awful. DH and I were watching it agape like wtf is this.

Saltburn is weird , agree, but there are lots weirder.

Dream Scenario with Nicolas Cage which came out at the same time as Saltburn.

Men
Midsommar

Probably the weirdest was Lobster. Amazing cast, in a v weird film.

Meh. Midsommer didn’t shock me or anything really. I found it incredibly dull. However I’m a huge fan of Florence Pugh!!!! So for that reason alone I’d watch it again

it was crap!

loving all the suggestions people!!!! I’ve got a huge list!

The Lobster (Rachel Weisz and Colin Farrell) comes to mind but I’m sure there must be weirder that I’ve watched.

We recommended it when people asked for the worst horror we ever had

we never got one complaint either about it!

In dreams with Robert Downey Junior.

also still don’t know what Donnie Darko was about

Highlighta · 27/12/2023 20:04

As already mentioned, Mother! That was such an odd film.

I watched Saltburn today, with no expectations. I thought it was pretty good, but I'm not sure I'd class it as a comedy thriller.

WolvesDiscoandBoogaloo · 27/12/2023 20:05

Oh gosh, Saltburn was light.

The most visually intense and utterly nuts film that springs to mind is Climax by Gaspar Noe. It is dizzying to the point of making you feel like you're on some ghastly rollercoaster.

I watched Saltburn last night, and turned it off after half an hour, it was such a strange film and bored me to death.

My opinion too. I had planned to see it at the cinema before it came on Netflix. Thank God I didn't waste time and money!

1990s · 27/12/2023 20:05

Loved Saltburn. My parents saw it separately at the cinema and also loved it!

Weirdest ever is definitely Mandy (Nicolas Cage).

Havetoast · 27/12/2023 20:06

’Men’ the weirdest one I’ve watched recently

icouldhavebeensomeone · 27/12/2023 20:08

Absolutely Loved Saltburn, I thought it was fabulous. Sorry to jump on the thread but if anyone can recommend any similar Brit films!

Friendofdennis · 27/12/2023 20:08

Eraserhead

whirlyhead · 27/12/2023 20:09

Santa sangre. Absolutely batshit mental Spanish film with dead elephants and lunatics everywhere.

greentreez23 · 27/12/2023 20:09

Thought Saltburn was excellent. I like an odd film. It reminded me of Melancholia the film withKirsten Dunst. Superb film

Ladyofthepond · 27/12/2023 20:09

Raw and Titane both by Julia Docournau

I bloody loved them but they are...weird! Titane is streaming on E4 right now :-)

Oh and weird awful weird is probably Lawnmower man.

I love that one, the director has a new.one worming out with Emma stone I'm keen to see.

Mespher · 27/12/2023 20:10

The cook, the thief, his wife and her lover was a bit weird

Pollyannamex · 27/12/2023 20:10

I really enjoyed saltburn too. It did get a bit silly at points (the grave scene) but visually it was incredible

PermanentTemporary · 27/12/2023 20:11

Tetsuo: Iron Man. I had a fever too and thought I was hallucinating at times.

Though I remember seeing that with a short film about a bunch of boys who were adrenaline addicts which outweirded it.

NaughtyBoyGeorgeMichaelJacksonBrown · 27/12/2023 20:12

I watched Saltburn a few nights ago too and it was very engaging but, yes, weird. Done a lot of reading around it since to make sense of it and am going to rewatch it.

Not usually a fan of having to do homework to appreciate a film but all the actors, especially BK are so watchable!!

Generally hate weird films, though. I'm not incapable of appreciating art and nuance etc., I just find some of the stuff mentioned on this thread too try-hard and pretentious. It doesn't have to be paint-by-numbers but I like a plot and an understandable ending. An 'open' conclusion is ok but a conclusion so wide open that any meaning fell out and ran away is so annoying when you've invested time (and money).

Mullholland Drive, Magnolia and Happiness spring to mind - 3 of my sibling's favourites (he attempted to re-force upon us again this festive period). Awful, miserable, pointless films!

Blarn · 27/12/2023 20:14

Pi. About a man who is convinced he can decode the universe. I watched it late night on C4 many years ago and am still confused by it! Good though.

Melancholia is outstanding. As is The Lobster.

Is Saltburn scary? (Before I start watching it alone in my hotel room… 😁)

catscatscurrantscurrants · 27/12/2023 20:20

Princess Mononoke. It gets plenty of praise from all quarters apparently. 65 minutes of my life I won't get back.

BlackCatsAreBrilliant · 27/12/2023 20:22

A Zed and Two Noughts

It was 30 years ago and I'm still weirded out by the memory.
