I love to get the decorations down on Boxing Day and get back to normal.
A bit of a clean and a good reset.
Ready to roll my sleeves up and get stuck in!

I also want some flowers now! 💐

They have been given the chance.
I'm not prepared to wait forever until they're ready!

How long did you wait?

happinessischocolate · 26/12/2023 07:40

We only put ours up on Friday and then other decs on Xmas eve. I'll put the other decs away on NYE but tree can stay up a bit longer.

Dd said yesterday she can't believe Xmas is over already. I said I'm off for a week therefore it's only just started 😁

I reckon it was about the end of January.

Fair enough! That's too long for a tree and Christmas things. I do have general winter things about after twelfth night, like the odd reindeer or some holly, but nothing that gets in the way.

It’s still Christmas. How depressing but equally controlling.

Tad dramatic. It’s a bloody plastic tree. I understand the need to present a perfect Christmas for social media but those of those who don’t bend to those pressures see a plastic tree for what it is. YANBU. OP

I like it up, but out normal life does not resume tomorrow. We have this week off work, the kids are home from uni/off school, it is dark and we will go slow for the next week. The tree is part of the atmosphere that signals that this is not a normal week.

I’ll be happy when it comes down in the new year but I am not ready yet.

JustOneMoreBaileys · 26/12/2023 07:50

Nope. It's stays for NYD then down on 2nd Jan.

garlictwist · 26/12/2023 07:57

But you've only just FINISHED work for Christmas? Why take it down now? We don't have a tree because we're quite shit and don't have kids but it does seem a shame if you're going to go to the bother of having one to decide Christmas is over before it's even started. I am so looking forward to the week ahead of being off work, I am not thinking of going back now.

Catsknowbest · 26/12/2023 07:58

Noooo

MogHog · 26/12/2023 07:59

Mine used to come down boxing day but since meeting DH it stays up a little longer so will come down tomorrow or Thursday. It stems from when I was a single parent with a tiny house and the tree had to come down to make room so my daughter could play with her toys properly.

Misspacorabanne · 26/12/2023 07:59

Not any more, I used to before the dc, but my eldest dc 6, gets so upset that Christmas is over after the day has finished. I keep telling him Christmas is not just a day, and it’s not yet over, and that’s why I now keep the tree up until the day after New Year’s Day! If I took it down Boxing Day, he really would think Christmas is all over. I’m itching to get tidied and sorted, but for now it will stay!

NYE for me because we have people over. Today I’m mainly eating and lying on the sofa 😉

I like your style 😁

Ossobuco · 26/12/2023 08:03

I have anxious and therefore controlling family members who do this. They’re aggressively proud of doing it like it’s a big virtue to be ‘getting back on with it’ on Boxing Day and they absolutely consider the tree to be clutter by the end of Christmas Day which just feels joyless.
No lack of space issues. Each to their own but I don’t like going there over the holidays because I feel they actually just want to be alone and ‘back to normal’

PuffyShirt · 26/12/2023 08:04

How sad and misery guts. I feel especially sorry for the kids - mine would be gutted if this happened in our house.

It is very much Christmas for the rest of the week here.

lastchristmasigaveu · 26/12/2023 08:05

I was going to ask u did last year but I've been persuaded to leave it for a few more days to my disappointment for the kids

FluffyFanny · 26/12/2023 08:07

Christmas trees go up far too early these days and people are fed up of them by Christmas. If you have a real one at the start of Dec it will be crispy and dry by Christmas Day.
I only put mine up a week ago- I’m keeping it up until 12th night- far better this way!

AlltheFs · 26/12/2023 08:07

It’s Christmas until 12th night. It’s literally just started.
I can’t abide people that take decorations down before then.

Highlighta · 26/12/2023 08:07

It’s still Christmas. How depressing but equally controlling

For goodness sakes 😂 controlling.

Mine is coming down tomorrow. As it takes up too much space. Everthing that was in that area is now shoved in other spots that are quite inconvenient.

Not everyone has space sone. I didn't know living in a small space could make someone controlling.

Ffs.

arewedoneyet · 26/12/2023 08:07

It stays up at least till new year here

Workingmumlife1 · 26/12/2023 08:08

Normally today but out so tomorrow!

I can see no logic in having a Santa stop here sign flashing on 🤣 and yes we have kids

Amethystanddiamonds · 26/12/2023 08:08

Ooh you'd hate our house. Decs up until 12th night but the nativity stays until Candlemas.

HelloCanYouHearMe · 26/12/2023 08:11

Mine is coming down tomorrow. It would have been today but we're off out today

Iamthatgenius · 26/12/2023 08:13

I find it sad and weird to be honest. Christmas is still in full swing here - we're going to my family today for a big get together. Boxing day is an extension of Christmas day to me.

Ours will be up until 12th night and even that I find sad to take down.
