Lip fillers?

I’ve been contemplating for AGES, I would love ti get them done because it’s something I’ve wanted for 4 years and I haven’t ever changed my mind.

I’ve done lots of research and I’ve found a clinic I think I’d like to visit.

my sister believes that it’s a bad idea to start so early. But I just want a bit of plumpness in the lips. Nothing fake looking.

can anyone advise?

My advice is they ALL look fake. I mean that with kindness and you're totally welcome to do as you wish and may get good advice from others with totally different opinions. The more I see fillers and botox on people, the more it puts me off having them. In my humble opinion, as a late 40's fairly okay looking woman I think they look trashy.

Ablondiebutagoody · 25/12/2023 01:45

Advise about what? It's a fashion that looks shit in my opinion.

Toddlerteaplease · 25/12/2023 01:47

They all look dreadful.

cryinglaughing · 25/12/2023 01:49

I think it is a terrible look to aspire to.
They look absolutely dreadful.

theduchessofspork · 25/12/2023 01:52

I’m sure it’s possible to get a subtle look, but you must avoid the duck profile. It looks truly stupid and absolutely fake

QuestionableMouse · 25/12/2023 01:55

Don't do it. They look shit and can go very wrong.

WavingCatsandDogs · 25/12/2023 01:55

Your face, your choice. But they will look shit.

Yep.

I really like them. My friend has hers done and I honestly didn't know they weren't her natural lips. I think they can look bad if you get too much done.. but when it's subtle people do not know. I'm going to get mine done at some point but can't right now because I'm pregnant.
I think it's similar to eyelash extensions.. I told my mum I was getting some and she went berserk. When I actually had them done she liked them... she hadn't realised that there's a whole load of different styles and you can have them quite natural if you want.. she was basing her opinion on the most extreme look people get done.
Same with lip fillers... people turn against them because they associate it with the most extreme look available

DramaAlpaca · 25/12/2023 02:32

It's totally up to you, but personally it's not a look I like and it's always obvious.

Arghcantthinkofaname · 25/12/2023 02:39

Your face your choice.

People who say they ‘all’ look fake don’t have a clue. Literally everyone you see on tv or in a movie or a magazine has had them done. It’s just the quality of the work. Trust me - i go to a high end place in mayfair and see a LOT of famous people who would swear blind they never had work done (A listers, not Towie)

Post a pic then.......

This is who did my lip filler - Dr Tara Kidd at Skinclinic.co.uk

These are not my lips but this is what I went for - it sort of plumped my lips back to where they were when I was about 30.
I did not want anything unnatural looking. But be warned the first 24 -48 hours they swell, it’s shocking and you can’t hide that you have had something done..but then they were exactly what I wanted and they have remained plumper than before, for the past 18 months or so.

But the second photograph clearly shows the lip filler and the telltale 'duck' profile.

It's incredibly obvious and the lips look very unnatural.

Unless that pic was to show the swelling?

If the second pic is to show the initial swelling and the first pic is an example of the final result, I agree that the first photograph is an example of subtle filler where you couldn't tell that work had been done.

If they're before/after pics, I'm afraid the end result is not subtle.

Agreed - they look fake

A work colleague has 'very subtle' lip fillers. Except everyone knows because they all look obvious. Lip fillers definitely give a certain 'look' IMO.

The looks really nice and subtle- thinking of getting mine done now. Not sure if I would want that swelling though as I'd be embarrassed at that stage. It looks painful whilst it was swollen/ healing.

ohthatstoohot · 25/12/2023 05:54

Why do you feel compelled to hand over money to endure chemically enlarged lips? What is influencing you to want this and why do you believe tampering with your natural face is a good idea?

I'd recommend ditching social media and Instagram rather than what you're proposing.

renomeno · 25/12/2023 05:55

Watching a recent post on Davinia Taylor's IG has confirmed it's something I never want to do!

Tried to post a link but failed! It’s on her main page (currently first post under pinned posts)

FairyliquidBottle · 25/12/2023 06:46

A colleague of mine has had hers done. She thinks it's subtle and from the front they look fine however when she turns to the side, they really look like duck lips. It's up to you though

Merrimentandsparkle · 25/12/2023 06:57

Laughing my head off at the “subtle” before and after picture 😅 the after looks terrible and definitely not subtle. Her lips were beautiful before. I agree that it’s your face so it’s your choice but I promise they never look natural or subtle on anybody. I associate swollen lips with allergies.

FamilyRestful · 25/12/2023 07:02

Tara Kidd pic looks like the Simpsons mouth shelf. It's never subtle. People are moving away from fillers these days. They always look shit and obvious.

ChateauDuMont · 25/12/2023 07:07

Try the fake tan trick instead.

Using a lip brush slightly over line your lips with fake tan. Leave for a few hours in the evening and then wash off off.

It will develop and give a sunken contour around your mouth that makes them look plumper, a 3d effect.

Lip fillers ALWAYS look ghastly.

cheezy · 25/12/2023 07:29

The example above is not a good one.
I feel certain the lip filler trend will fade away soon, it’s too ubiquitous.

Beezknees · 25/12/2023 07:32

Do they always look obvious though or do people just think they do?

I have a naturally very full bottom lip, it almost looks pouty. I've been asked if I had filler before, but I haven't.
