Lip fillers?

Lilllypad11 · 25/12/2023 01:38

I’ve been contemplating for AGES, I would love ti get them done because it’s something I’ve wanted for 4 years and I haven’t ever changed my mind.

I’ve done lots of research and I’ve found a clinic I think I’d like to visit.

my sister believes that it’s a bad idea to start so early. But I just want a bit of plumpness in the lips. Nothing fake looking.

can anyone advise?

@PersephonePomegranate23 What a brilliant poem! 😁

Friedtofuandbeans · 25/12/2023 09:32

Those before and afters are DREADFUL - it looks so bad in the second photo! I can’t believe people would pay for that. It looks truly shit.

Don't do it unless you want to look like a blow up porn dolly and like the idea of premature "smokers" wrinkles round your mouth unless you keep it up for the rest of your life.

Blown up porn dolly?

Aren't you a lovely misogynist.

@PolizeiobermeisterWache @Abracadabra12345

Glad you both liked that 🤓

TheMotherSide · 25/12/2023 09:55

Hm. I'd have been in the 'absolutely always obvious' camp until recently when two friends mentioned they'd had theirs done in the summer. I really hadn't noticed! On inspection, there was no plumpness though, just a smoothing out of wrinkles. I was impressed, to my surprise.

Tiredofthiss · 25/12/2023 09:58

I just worked somewhere were everyone had lip fillers even chin filler, it is now popular now and it's mad how creepy it can look very quickly. I used to get lip filler in my early 20s. Sure it can look more natural but every time you get it done it's swollen, sometimes gastly bruising for a week! I went to the 'best of the best' but it's still trama to your lips. So even if you get a 'perfect' result 1/2 weeks after you will be spending at least a total of one month of the year looking like you been battered or had an allergic reaction.🤣 Now I have two daughters and turned 30 I just don't want them to see that. My partner is mixed race and one my daughter's has his volumes lips and the other has thinner lips like me. So I stopped as don't want my daughter's growing up having the same insecurities. For me Instagram and Kylie Jenner influenced me at the time it was all I was consuming online and I just associated big lips with being more attractive. It's genetics due to where people originate from their features generally fit a certain profile. Smaller lips and noses etc colder countries. Warmer countries the opposite it was evolution to protect us better from weather conditions. I'm butchering this but if you look it up this is why a lot of us have the features we do and it's not 'wrong'. Most people who are getting filler are really young and it's just so sad.

@cornonthesnob having things done as a reconstruction process is different to altering a healthy face for vanity though.
I'm sorry you've had such severe health challenges, I hope you're doing well now.

Thank you.

I agree they are, but the result is the same. The aim is the same. To improve / enhance something already there.

But for PP to shame women for doing this regardless of the reason as 'blown up porn dollies' is horrible.

Everyone judging doesn't know the reason as to why that person may have had work done. It shouldn't matter. But to be smeared like this so much is horrible.

It's nice to know that when I'm walking down the street that's what I'm thought of. When I was just trying to fix something that deeply upset me.

But I'm happy with my results on my face for the work I've paid for and I'm grateful to be able to access treatments like that. Thank you for your well wishes :)

It looks fake because it is fake

cornonthesnob · 25/12/2023 10:08

Out of curiosity, from my picture I posted below, what looks fake on my face? (Genuinely asking)

Eigen · 25/12/2023 10:09

Polis · 25/12/2023 08:46

I agree that it’s the side profile that often gives it away. Particularly with the top lip. Naturally full lips don’t have the duck’s beak look.

Agree also. In those photos it actually makes the lines look deeper in my view.

I think we’re just very good at seeing the uncanny valley, so even quite small adjustments can look very unnatural in the context of one’s face.

crafty976 · 25/12/2023 10:11

there's a Mum at school who had "subtle" fillers. She looks like she's walked into a door. At speed.

MyopicBunny · 25/12/2023 10:12

Some of them look very nice. Especially now that the newest way to do them involves Russian flat profile look. This avoids the duck look.

The people saying they all look terrible- yes the ones that stand out clearly haven't been done well.

If you find a great practitioner they can be amazing.

MyopicBunny · 25/12/2023 10:13

cornonthesnob · 25/12/2023 09:07

I'll bite.

NC for obvious reasons.

This is the only picture I could find of my natural face. I've had little bits of filler here and there over the years after chemo destroyed certain points of my face. I'm happy with how it looks, and I can assure you it looks a lot better than before when my face and skin was effectively destroyed by chemo.

Make sure you do your research OP, go to someone medically qualified. It'll be more expensive, but, you can go to people that do good results despite what MN think.

You look beautiful

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 25/12/2023 10:16

There’s a ‘ridge’.

Also the top lips don’t taper, they’re the same width all the way to the corner. When people with lip fillers talk I find it really distracting because it doesn’t move naturally.

Obviously people should do what they want (I’m covered in tattoos), but it’s disingenuous to say they look ‘natural’. They look like filled lips, if you like the look then do it.

Nope, just googled the Russian technique, still bad.

SomeCatFromJapan · 25/12/2023 10:33

@cornonthesnob I honestly don't think anyone is going to be judging you, regardless of what is said on this thread. You're a very beautiful young woman and that is what people will notice.

cheezy · 25/12/2023 10:34

Love that poem!! Who knew they had fillers back then!!

I’ve just thought of one person who I assume has had lip fillers, and that look good, IMO, and that’s Kate Middleton

greenbeansnspinach · 25/12/2023 10:41

It always looks awful, I know you’re getting lots of responses that you won’t like to read, but it’s always obvious and it always looks really horrible.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 25/12/2023 10:43

Kate Middleton has had lip fillers??

She folds her top lip up inside her mouth when she smiles, is that why?

@MyopicBunny

Thank you very much, that's so kind of you.

Yes I do.

They really don't.

JRsEyebrows · 25/12/2023 12:08

I personally wouldn’t get fillers, there’s a few plastic surgeons on YouTube talking about the implications of the trend.

Why don’t you try this Lisa Eldridge tutorial to make the most of what you have?
