Lip fillers?

Lilllypad11 · 25/12/2023 01:38

I’ve been contemplating for AGES, I would love ti get them done because it’s something I’ve wanted for 4 years and I haven’t ever changed my mind.

I’ve done lots of research and I’ve found a clinic I think I’d like to visit.

my sister believes that it’s a bad idea to start so early. But I just want a bit of plumpness in the lips. Nothing fake looking.

can anyone advise?

@Lilllypad11 I had mine done for the first time in July just over half a ml like you had toyed with it for years, no regrets they look great ( to me) and not fake. However the initial swelling my is not fun and looks v obvious

cheezy · 25/12/2023 07:36

It’s of course quite possible I’ve seen filled lips without realising it…
But is is worth it, the swelling, the top ups, the money - if it’s so subtle to be unnoticeable?

Beignet · 25/12/2023 07:40

I'm not a fan of fillers.. I saw the picture above and they the lips looked lovely, then realised I was looking at the before picture. The post picture looks very unnatural and beaky.

Each to their own though. I was discussing this with my teenagers a couple of days ago. The fake look is very trendy atm.

NotToYou · 25/12/2023 07:49

If it'll make you happy then go for it. People will judge you for all kinds of things no matter what you do, so that's not worth worrying about.

TheaBrandt · 25/12/2023 07:58

I genuinely preferred the before in those before and after pics

Lollygaggle · 25/12/2023 07:59

Lip and facial fillers , in my opinion, are one of the next great medical scandals waiting to erupt.
Fillers need redoing every few months and basically you are putting a foreign substance into your body on a regular basis which may trigger immune system problems ranging from local reactions, allergy , to triggering autoimmune diseases (a problem which women are particularly prone to). https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8291382/

The Immunogenicity of Hyaluronic Fillers and Its Consequences

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a glycosaminoglycan, a natural component of the extracellular matrix. The identical structure of the molecule in all living organisms is its main advantage, as it translates into the minimal probability of immunogenicity. Theref...

Those photos posted upthread - the ‘before’ pic looks way nicer!

I met someone the other day who had tonnes of natural beauty and genuinely subtle lip fillers, as they go. I still noticed the lips after a few minutes and thought she’d have looked better - really stunning - if she hadn’t had that done..

On the other hand I’ve never thought that someone’s lips would look better if they bulged out a a bit more!

EnolaJ · 25/12/2023 08:03

Just go for it - if you don't like it you can get them dissolved

I will tell you that they HURT so just be prepared for that!

megletthesecond · 25/12/2023 08:10

cherry the second photo shows clearly fake and shit lip filler.

I know it can be done well but you'd have to pay out the nose for an excellent cosmetic surgeon to do it. It worries me all these young girls having it done on the cheap and messing their faces up.

This is who did my lip filler - Dr Tara Kidd at Skinclinic.co.uk

These are not my lips but this is what I went for - it sort of plumped my lips back to where they were when I was about 30.
I did not want anything unnatural looking. But be warned the first 24 -48 hours they swell, it’s shocking and you can’t hide that you have had something done..but then they were exactly what I wanted and they have remained plumper than before, for the past 18 months or so.

Edited

But this does look awful and unnatural.

So may lip filler defenders say that if it is done properly, you wouldn't know it had bee done. In other words, 'good' lip filler doesn't have any significant visible effect - which is something you can achieve for free by not having lip filler.

Even when it is only marginally perceptible it just makes me think that the person looks mildly worse and has revealed themselves to be a bit of a fool.

PersephonePomegranate23 · 25/12/2023 08:25

I agree the lips in photo do look fake/done but at least they don't look trashy. If you must get it done, aim for that.

I don't really like fake lips, hair, eyelashes or nails, actually. I think they all look a bit shit and like you're displaying your dissatisfaction with yourself. Reminds me of the Swift poem about anan 18th century prostitute.

Then, seated on a three-legged chair,
Takes off her artificial hair:
Now, picking out a crystal eye,
She wipes it clean, and lays it by.
Her eye-brows from a mouse’s hide,
Stuck on with art on either side,
Pulls off with care, and first displays ’em,
Then in a play-book smoothly lays ’em.
Now dexterously her plumpers draws,
That serve to fill her hollow jaws.
Untwists a wire; and from her gums
A set of teeth completely comes.
Pulls out the rags contrived to prop
Her flabby dugs and down they drop.
Proceeding on, the lovely goddess
Unlaces next her steel-ribbed bodice;
Which by the operator’s skill,
Press down the lumps, the hollows fill,
Up goes her hand, and off she slips
The bolsters that supply her hips.
With gentlest touch, she next explores
Her shankers, issues, running sores,
Effects of many a sad disaster;
And then to each applies a plaister.

OP, you should have posted on the Style and Beauty thread. Responses on here are condescending/snobby. I'm not getting the procedure done myself but it's fashion and it's up to you.

Pollyparkin · 25/12/2023 08:40

My dog head butted me the other week and my lips puffed up. As they deflated I thought they looked brilliant. Just a tiny bit fuller. Not achievable as an effect though I fear. Every time I see someone say "but mine are so natural" they inevitably aren't, BUT some do look fine and not as obvious. If you like the look then go for it !

ElevenSeven · 25/12/2023 08:41

Do whatever you want. But yes, they always look shit, especially the side profile

Janieforever · 25/12/2023 08:42

I’m afraid I also agree with the majority op, and find it a bit odd someone thinks you’d get different views on style and beauty, like it’s got different members or something.

I think there is a lot you can do in terms of facial fillers and Botox, but lip fillers is the one thing that always looks obvious and fake.always. Without exception.

however you like the look. And have done for a long time, so then maybe you would be one of the people to get it and actually believe it looks natural.

yoshiblue · 25/12/2023 08:42

Horrible look and I think looking rather dated now. Agree with others that you can ALWAYS tell and not in a good way.

Do you really think they look natural?

They don’t 🤣

Cherryana · 25/12/2023 08:44

Yes I do.

Marvellous Mumsnet. This is fabulous. First time I've come across it.

Polis · 25/12/2023 08:46

I agree that it’s the side profile that often gives it away. Particularly with the top lip. Naturally full lips don’t have the duck’s beak look.

Toddlerteaplease · 25/12/2023 08:47

Merrimentandsparkle · 25/12/2023 06:57

Laughing my head off at the “subtle” before and after picture 😅 the after looks terrible and definitely not subtle. Her lips were beautiful before. I agree that it’s your face so it’s your choice but I promise they never look natural or subtle on anybody. I associate swollen lips with allergies.

My thoughts exactly!

whatchagonnado · 25/12/2023 08:53

Lip fillers look awful. I would never, ever do that to my face.

Her lips look like they’ve been enhanced.

cornonthesnob · 25/12/2023 09:07

I'll bite.

NC for obvious reasons.

This is the only picture I could find of my natural face. I've had little bits of filler here and there over the years after chemo destroyed certain points of my face. I'm happy with how it looks, and I can assure you it looks a lot better than before when my face and skin was effectively destroyed by chemo.

Make sure you do your research OP, go to someone medically qualified. It'll be more expensive, but, you can go to people that do good results despite what MN think.

Lip fillers?
HairyToity · 25/12/2023 09:07

One of the school mums gets botox and fillers. I personally don't think it's a good look. Not for me. Also we don't really know the long term effects.

Also it's a privilege to grow old, so many people don't. Injecting yourself with fillers doesn't give you a younger heart it just gives you a lower bank balance.
