Lip fillers?

Lilllypad11 · 25/12/2023 01:38

I’ve been contemplating for AGES, I would love ti get them done because it’s something I’ve wanted for 4 years and I haven’t ever changed my mind.

I’ve done lots of research and I’ve found a clinic I think I’d like to visit.

my sister believes that it’s a bad idea to start so early. But I just want a bit of plumpness in the lips. Nothing fake looking.

can anyone advise?

They always look fake. Everyone I’ve ever spoken to who’s had them done speaks like a dental anaesthetic is wearing off too.

The sad thing is this is only the beginning. We have young girls at work butchering their faces it makes you feel so ashamed of how shallow and vain as a society we've become and what a terrible example we are teaching them.
It's a form of self harm, "l am not good enough" and we are only seeing the tip of the iceberg. If silly older women with nothing better to do want sabotage their faces, so be it, but they should hang their heads in shame as to the toxic message they are sending out to the younger and more impressionable generation. It's a massive step backwards.

DryIce · 25/12/2023 15:56

The debate seems to be about whether or not they look "natural". I personally don't think they do, I feel I can always tell when people have had it done.

But that isn't the same as saying they're awful, it's not a look I would go for but clearly many people disagree. And if you like the look, go for it!

I have (very obviously) dyed hair and a tattoo. Not everyone will like those choices I've made, and that's fine. But I wouldn't argue they look natural. And arguably why go through it all if it looks natural at the end anyway!

Only a very small amount of people ask for 'the fake look' when they get their fillers.

I didn't, I wanted to get some life and volume back in my face after chemo, but I get what you're saying though! Different floats for different boats n all that

brawnthesheep · 25/12/2023 17:27

It seems strange to me that people who don't like lip fillers and have no interest in getting them done themselves repeatedly click on threads to tell people not to get them done.

Do you really think it’s strange? Plastic surgery doesn’t exist in a vacuum. I don’t particularly care if someone had fillers but I work with teenagers & the whole culture of surgery, selfies , etc is certainly not healthy for them so there are definitely wider conversations.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 25/12/2023 17:35

I take it you're quite young @Lilllypad11 if your sister is cautioning you not to do it so early?

I honestly think learn to love yourself the way you are, why would you want to start going down the path of painful, surgical interventions to make yourself look 'better'? Who is the arbiter of 'better' here?

Prettyinred · 25/12/2023 18:00

Ignore MN
most are clueless and have no idea what they’re talking about

MN hate most things
you wouldn’t even know most women have had lip fillers
most don’t look fake
ive lost the plumpness in my lips so I get a little tweak say every year
no one notices apart from my friends who I tell.
love it!

go for it
if you don’t like it nothing lost

MabelMoo23 · 25/12/2023 18:56

I’d quite like it as I’ve got no Cupids bow - I smashed my teeth through my lip 17 years ago and I’ve got no definition in my top lip.

but I’m terrified of a duck pout!

FamilyRestful · 25/12/2023 19:01

British people are too polite to say it to your face @Prettyinred

No sone women don't like the idea of other people having procedures because it's a type of jealousy. Why else would anyone care??

Personally, I think your opinion is toxic.

People should be allowed to do what makes them feel confident without coming under fire and 'shame on you'. It's none of your business what other people decide to do with their own bodies.

MyopicBunny · 25/12/2023 19:25

YabbaDabbaDooooo · 25/12/2023 14:08

Literally everyone you see on tv or in a movie or a magazine has had them done.

That's such a strange thing to want to make yourself believe.

It's true though 😂

I know a few semi famous people who get all kinds of things done.

Teasie123 · 25/12/2023 19:26

Go for it!!! I did and I felt a million dollars,!!

AInightingale · 25/12/2023 19:31

I take it you're quite young?

The problem is, are you in for a lifetime of using them, and what might that do to your face as you age?

Fivepigeons · 25/12/2023 19:41

Wow some judgemental people on here! So what if they 'look fake' do you think people believe your lips are naturally bright red? Or your eyebrows are naturally so neatly shaped? Or your hair blonde streaks are natural... or whatever other aesthetic choices you've made about your appearance?
Some people just like the way fillers look. And that's fine. Some people don't. Amd that's fine. There's absolutely no need to start calling people porn dollies or telling them they ate ridiculous just because its not a look you'd go for yourself.
I love my fake eyelashes and my acrylics.. and I'm definitely considering lip fillers.. I think it's pretty. I'm sure even if I didn't have these things done many people would still judge me as I like wearing bright colours etc... I just think you should do what makes you happy and what is fun. Do I really need lip fillers? No. It's just a bit of fun. Like wearing a massive hat or a sequin dress.
Just let people enjoy things. They aren't hurting anyone.
And no I'm not 'pandering to the male gaze' men actually tend to hate lip fillers more vehemently than the commenters on this thread! My husband actually asked me not to get them done... but it's not his body. And tbf I think he's just basing that off a female friend who got 1ml ones and does look quite extreme.. I doubt he'd actually notice if I got them done how I want. He genuinely never notices when I've had my eyelashes done.

LordSnot · 25/12/2023 19:44

So what if they 'look fake'

All the people having lip fillers clearly care because they're falling over themselves to say they don't look fake.

BelieveInYourElf · 25/12/2023 19:47

For goodness sake! So many people get filler; stop making OP feel awful. I've had lip filler and hated it. Then I had it again years later, and it was far better, but I was scared I would look ducky if I went for a top-up. This time, I opted for a different strategy and tried lip blush, which I far prefer.

User14March · 25/12/2023 19:50

Kate Middleton, obvious tweaks? Almost any female on TV over 40? Do they look better than most? Yes. The barrier to the ‘best’ tweakments, money, hence the criticism?

Fivepigeons · 25/12/2023 19:54

@LordSnot but there's fake and there's fake isn't there? It's like 'natural makeup' it's still obviously makeup. You CAN get quite subtle natural looking lip fillers. But like any other aesthetic enhancement it's still obviously a bit of fakery.

Fivepigeons · 25/12/2023 19:58

And tbf my friend had been having hers done for years and I never even realised until it came up in conversation one day! She's got heart shaped lips tho so it's not given her the duck pout look due to the natural shape of her lips.. she's still got the cupids bow

We're not falling over ourselves, but when we get called blow up porn dolls we're within our rights to defend ourselves.

I don't know what that has to do with my post. You suggested it was irrelevant if lip fillers look fake and I pointed out that it clearly matters to the people who have them.

So is it also bad when people dye their hair blue etc because it looks 'fake'? If someone is happy with a look then that's their business, not yours. This is no different from fat shaming.

MyopicBunny · 25/12/2023 22:14

My daughter is 20 and she wants hers done. Since I've been having mine done for the last 15 years (about once a year) I can't really expect her to not do this if she wants to. It is a fashion that a lot of people have. But it's reversible. So it dissolves in time and you can also have it dissolved. And some famous people have publicly done this too. Your mouth isn't left wrinkly.

IHateLegDay · 25/12/2023 22:16

I've contemplated having mine done but terrified of ending up with duck lips.
I've met MANY people who've had their lips done and there's only been one person I've met that I couldn't tell. I got the name of her clinic immediately 😂
