I suppose you can be thick AND duplicitous.

Full quote was something along the lines of ‘junior doctors, or as I like to call them trainee doctors’ so I’m going for duplicitous. Wouldn’t rule out thick as well though.

newnamethanks · 21/12/2023 14:01

I'm confused. A junior doctor - or trainee doctor - can be many years into practice whereas a Physician's Associate is fully qualified after 3? Years training. I see a useful economy developing. Is that what's going on?

Roussette · 21/12/2023 14:05

She said... 'junior doctors, or doctors-in-training as I prefer to call them....'

Rude, ignorant and I've just called her a Home Secretary in training who won't qualify Grin

RafaistheKingofClay · 21/12/2023 14:06

Which is much politer than what I prefer to call her.

Roussette · 21/12/2023 14:21

AAAAAAAnd.... that should read 'Health' Secretary! (I did have in right in the tweet phew!)

Awful isn't it, when you make a joke and get it wrong!

RafaistheKingofClay · 21/12/2023 14:43

I hadn’t noticed 😂

IClaudine · 21/12/2023 16:29

You could apply that to any minister these days, Roussette. None of 'em know their arse from their elbow.

Unfair. As much as one might find reasons to critise Gove, he does make sure he knows his brief.

I'm always doing that. 😬☹️

tobee · 21/12/2023 17:43

Also it's pretty hard to keep up with what portfolio any of them have at this very minute. Imagining if we were discussing Grant Schapps!

Notonthestairs · 21/12/2023 17:44

I muddled Bridgen with Francois the other dayGrin

NEW: Big climb down just slipped out without any fanfare by the Home Office on its plans to reduce immigration

Minimum income threshold needed to bring foreign spouses to UK will only rise to £29,000 initially. No timeline for it to be raised to £38,700

I imagine they've had to change the amount as a result of an impact assessment. To be filed under - Failure to prepare properly before announcing a change to policy.

And given to journalists after 5pm!

pointythings · 21/12/2023 17:57

Post on X re Victoria Atkins and her offensive description of junior doctors got massively noted.

There's lots of noting going on at the moment.

cakeorwine · 21/12/2023 18:42

I notice in the media there's a lot of "Starmer acted for so and so " as a lawyer.

This is where the attacks will come.
Not very positive, is it...

The one from Niles Gardiner got community noted, mentioning the cab-rank rule

I wonder if Rishi is contemplating a new law to forbid people from remembering? 🤔

Gotta be worth a punt at this point.

BIossomtoes · 21/12/2023 19:18

Compulsory amnesia? You mean like brainwashing?

DuncinToffee · 21/12/2023 19:39

I thought that was happening anyway, isn't that how Tory mp's get defensive when asked questions on tv and radio

Department of Transport announcing £235 million to improve London roads as a Network North project (ie diverted HS2 funds) seems tone deaf.

They have now deleted it, but the internet remembers Grin

I suspect they are throwing stuff out at the moment and trying to see what will stick. Ridiculous when we know they know about the cab rank system for allocating cases.

I'd hate to think what would happen if barristers ditched that system - you can't prosecute without providing a decent opportunity for a defence. In which case we may as well throw in the towel altogether and accept we live in a banana republic.

It's pretty stupid of the right wing, because so many MPs of all parties are barristers and solicitors that it's one of those things that wouldn't benefit anyone if it were normalised. If Starmer's previous client list is fair game, that applies to every Tory MP who's ever been a lawyer too.

I saw that trailed a while ago as Tory's new top strategy; and that Labour people will be busy preparing for it 😏

Notonthestairs · 21/12/2023 21:01

Every solicitor/barrister turned politician should publicly reject the CCHQ/Telegraph/Mail stories and explain why.

I'm looking at you Alex Chalk & Victoria Prentis.
