She is in cahoots with Bridgen so it may be linked to that.

Quite popular in FWR.

Used to be a teacher and very right wing.

Some of the very worst of the current batch are ex teachers!

This is new. It is isn't it? I must say I am rather losing track.

Tory MP Miriam Cates under investigation by commons standards watchdog.

Oh dear, what will all those who think she is the darling of the know what a woman is fraternity do now. And in the same article it shares her view that girls are being educated too much and should stay at home to make babies.

Just completed a yougov poll on money Mone - let's just say that her interview yesterday hasn't helped.

newnamethanks · 18/12/2023 15:08

These people can afford the best legal advice. Either they aren't listening to it or something - something else - is very wrong indeed.

me to - just wondering who is/are the 1% that think she is not in the wrong?

DuncinToffee · 18/12/2023 15:45

Ones that profitted themeselves?

It's been reported that Mone is no longer a member of the Conservative Party

Mone is now going for Gove, Wormald and Sunak

She does have a point in that she is only the tip of the iceberg.

Sunak may begin to wish he had already lost the next general election.

It's okay, Lord Bethell has managed to recover some of his whatsapps from his lost phone to defend Sunak

https://x.com/disappoptimism/status/1736773350418956317?s=20

Incredible scenes as Lord Bethell promptly recalls a message from Mone to defend Sunak. Which would have been just dandy but…

Didn’t he tell the covid enquiry he lost his phone?

Yes he did say his phone had been broken and replaced and he couldn't retrieve his messages.
Amazing which messages he had been able to get back.

I thought he was being investigated by ICO because he used private emails for government business. He was also investigated by standards committee for authorising parliamentary pass for Gina Coladangelo.

IClaudine · 18/12/2023 17:16

I am starting to wonder if Mone could bring the government down. Here's hoping.

Very sad about Leonard Farruku. What a sad waste of a young man's life.

Tory councils ‘bitterly disappointed’ by financial settlement

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/michael-gove-government-jim-mcmahon-rishi-sunak-local-government-association-b2466099.html

The Conservative-led County Councils Network (CCN), which represents England’s largest councils, said its members will be “bitterly disappointed” by the announcement and warned councils will now have to implement more severe reductions to services and impose higher council tax rises.

Barry Lewis, Conservative leader of Derbyshire County Council and CCN finance spokesman, said: “The CCN had put together a strong case for emergency funding next year to address the significant financial headwinds councils face which are outside of our control.

“But despite constructive discussions with ministers over recent days the government has chosen not to act.”

Mr Lewis added inevitable council tax rises and service reductions will be a “double whammy” for residents during a cost-of-living crisis, adding an increasing number of councils will struggle to deliver a balanced budget next year.

Or to paraphrase: 'Tories blame Tories for Tory cuts'

Tory councils ‘bitterly disappointed’ by financial settlement

Michael Gove said the provisional settlement for 2024/25 shows the Government ‘stands behind councils up and down the country’.

I had to do a Clavinova and go out when Mone was on tv yesterday. I've just seen some of it. Liar accuses other liars of lying. OK.

Notonthestairs · 18/12/2023 18:31

There is a £4 billion funding gap for local government according to the chair of the Local Government Association.

The Government's has worked its funding on the basis that all councils will raise council tax bills to the highest levels in 2024-5. This won't close the gap for next year however.

Understandably people will be angry and upset as bills are rising across the board. It is indeed a method to shift blame.

newnamethanks · 18/12/2023 21:55

Transparent and disgraceful. And no surprise to anyone.

Lying toads. Have they got anything right at all? I mean John Major at least had his traffic cone hotline.

RafaistheKingofClay · 18/12/2023 22:37

Mone bringing the government down with her would be a hilarious but much appreciated Christmas gift to the UK.

Hopefully the Covid inquiry will be in touch with Lord Bethell now he has got his phone working again.

No. In 13 long, painful years the Tories have not managed to get anything right. They've failed on practically every measurement. They've failed their core voters. They've failed their members. They're failures.

itsgettingweird · 19/12/2023 05:14

That's the heart of it isn't it? They've failed their core voters.

They've become something they don't even recognise and have no idea what direction they are going.

And rather than stop, take stock and regroup they are making more mistakes, fucking up the country more and then blaming everyone else but themselves. Angry

I'm very worried about the scorched earth approach the Tories are following. They seem obsessed with how they can hamper the next Labour government - but actually they are simply harming us, the ordinary voters.

I was afraid of this. I hoped that somewhere, deep down, there was something they had done well.

IClaudine · 19/12/2023 10:20

Mone is certainly having a go at bringing the Tories down with her:
