I think you can find better allies than the worst Prime Minister since at least the Second World War.

HorseySurprise · 03/12/2023 16:41

Actually this doesn't surprise me at all - I remember her saying on the radio (can't remember which programme) in a dead pan voice "Women do have vaginas xxx (person's name)".

Boomboom22 · 03/12/2023 16:42

I don't know why you are surprised. This is primary school biology 😁

lifeturnsonadime · 03/12/2023 16:42

Well she might have been a rubbish Prime Minister but she is a woman who is standing up for women's rights and the rights of children and should be applauded for that.

Come on Labour Party, your turn now!

but if she is prepared to actually bring this into law, we need to let our "better allies" know that our votes depend on them supporting her

Crikey are you so tribal that you can't see that a person can do a job badly yet be completely right on another issue?

How strange to be so blinkered.

Ibizabar · 03/12/2023 16:45

She might as well jump on this bandwagon. Any will do to get some allies I would think. I mean her stint as PM was very successful and earnt her loads of respect 🙄

Shudacudawuda · 03/12/2023 16:46

This isn't new, she's been supporting this for years, and I commend her for it

endofthelinefinally · 03/12/2023 16:47

She has always said this. It isn't a new opinion or statement. She was saying it long before the leadership contest.

Weefreetiffany · 03/12/2023 16:47

So a failed politician courts a new support demographic to relaunch career? She would tell you the blue was green if it got her foot in the door. Don’t let that stop you being a willing pawn though.

Ibizabar · 03/12/2023 16:47

Shame she didn't care about women when she fucked up the economy then.

To be fair, she was quite open about her stance on this long before her stint as PM..

Well would you rather that she didn't bother?, I don't care who it is, someone needs to do this.

DrivingonIce · 03/12/2023 16:49

She would tell you blue was green if it got her foot in the door.

But this more more like telling you blue is blue, rather than insisting it's green.

vinoandbrie · 03/12/2023 16:51

She has always been good in this area.

Go Liz!

CalistoNoSolo · 03/12/2023 16:54

She's totally bonkers. I've no idea if she actually believes what she says as she is possibly the most opportunistic woman in the world (the male slot being reserved for the odious Johnson) but for once its the truth and thank goodness she has enough clout still to be heard, and enough chutzpah to not care about the trans death threats she's bound to get.

I don't think her saying this will actually be a good thing for women's rights though. She'll be too easy to dismiss by all of the 'intellectuals' who have drunk the koolaid and I doubt she'll want to align herself with the likes of JK or vice versa. But I guess another voice pointing out how ridiculous and dangerous it is that women have to allow men in their loos and changing rooms has got to be a good thing.

PermanentTemporary · 03/12/2023 16:55

Truss only cares about being in the papers.

I suppose I don't give women enough credit for stating the obvious in public, given that I'm scared to do so myself.

ditalini · 03/12/2023 16:58

Whatever you think of LT (and I happily go months without thinking about her at all), she has been utterly consistent on this issue.

It's a shocking indictment of our political landscape that this is unusual. I don't believe for one second that (most - the Moran woman probably does) the other female politicians who mumble genderist mantras actually believe them.

ElevenSeven · 03/12/2023 17:00

She’s always said this. If she can get this bill through as her legacy, then she’s achieved at least one thing.

Anisette · 03/12/2023 17:07

Seriously, associating this woman can only do the cause harm. She's clearly only doing it for political gain anyway.

borntobequiet · 03/12/2023 17:09

She’s been consistent on this for a long time. People (even politicians) can be right on some things but wrong on others.

Nanny0gg · 03/12/2023 17:34

Apparently she is also trying to propose a Bill in the Commons this week that will prevent under-18s from accessing hormone therapy and block the state from recognising social transitioning by children.

Good for her

On the contrary, if she can get this through then she will have done a huge amount of good.

YoureALizardHarry11 · 03/12/2023 17:40

She’s jumped on the bandwagon because it’s a hot topic that people feel very strongly about. Same reason Suella Braverman kept on about the boats, pandering to people’s strong feelings. It’s nothing to do with her being a decent person.
