Says a lot when a cause is so dumb that a politician as useless as Liz Truss can gain some kind of credibility by stating an obvious fact.

Why are women's views dumb? Explain please

caringcarer · 03/12/2023 23:30

endofthelinefinally · 03/12/2023 16:47

She has always said this. It isn't a new opinion or statement. She was saying it long before the leadership contest.

Yep, Liz Truss knows what a woman is and supports safe spaces for women. We need far more female MP's to agree and stand firm on this.

PermanentTemporary · 03/12/2023 23:33

@JulianFawcettMP try reading the post above mine, then mine, which might help you understand. I'm responding to the previous post.

Gosh and maybe responsible for some men going into women's prisons? Was that her?

Is this true? Because if so it makes her talk pretty cheap now.

Leaving aside the fact that regardless of her views she's shown herself incompetent.

fetchacloth · 03/12/2023 23:37

ElevenSeven · 03/12/2023 17:00

She’s always said this. If she can get this bill through as her legacy, then she’s achieved at least one thing.

Yes I agree and a good job done imo.

bombastix · 03/12/2023 23:43

@Nanny0gg - If Truss this, then the Government would have to decide to support it officially or not in order to progress it.

When a bill enters parliament this decision must be taken quickly and will determine its progress. Does the Government agree? If it does, it can just through its weight and majority vote behind it, making that legal change guaranteed. And it could be done very quickly.

That would be going further than their own current policy in law. Would the bill be compatible with the current law is a question that they would have to answer to do it. That's because all bills must be compatible with the Human Rights Act.

I agree the other parties might have to take an actual position but equally they could choose to ignore it, make a free vote, not whip it, or amend it.

But the Government could literally do this now. And it is not. Why is that?

bombastix · 03/12/2023 23:50

@TomPinch - genuine question. She was the Justice Secretary at one stage. The issue of men in women's prisons was an issue in 2016. The policy was changed in 2022 by Dominic Raab.

Fairly, Truss may have changed her mind.

therealcookiemonster · 04/12/2023 00:01

yes but the real question is what does the iceberg lettuce that outlived her premiership think?

boudiccathecat · 04/12/2023 00:10

The lettuce also thinks that women’s rights and safeguarding children are important and single sex spaces should not have men in them. It’s a no brainier.

FictionalCharacter · 04/12/2023 00:15

StarlightLime · 03/12/2023 16:48

To be fair, she was quite open about her stance on this long before her stint as PM..

She was. She isn’t jumping on any bandwagon. “Women do have vaginas, Nick” was all over social media (that was to Nick Ferrari).

Onand · 04/12/2023 00:16

She’s appealing to you because she sees a way into manipulating the right into believing she’s decent when actually she was a truly terrible PM, an absolute disgrace to all females and males too for that matter. She’s not your ally she’s jumping on the bandwagon because it’s conveniently headline grabbing.

boudiccathecat · 04/12/2023 00:21

And again, why don’t Keir and the gang jump on the band wagon. It’s soo easy, four little words “trans women are men”

Boomboom22 · 03/12/2023 16:42

I don't know why you are surprised. This is primary school biology 😁

... well it USED to be!

No it's not true.

Prior to 2009 there were already some men in women's prisons. The Karen Jones case of that year determined that even men who had not had surgery must be eligible to be moved to the female estate.

https://www.bailii.org/cgi-bin/format.cgi?doc=/ew/cases/EWHC/Admin/2009/2220.html

Liz Truss wasn't even an MP in 2009.

There’s more divergence now

Duffield under investigation pushed for by Labour lobby group, no one in her party standing up as Badenoch did for Falkner - who was also part of a take her out attack

And Truss spelling out the issues clearly

Tatumm · 04/12/2023 08:01

Nothing m, and I mean nothing, will make me support Truss the Trojan horse, who deliberately crashed the UK economy.

UrghAnotherOne · 04/12/2023 08:02

Oh you'd better join the Con Party then, and vote for her next leadership bid; if she's saying stuff like that, she's exactly the kind of person we need to lead the country.

Oh wait..... 😂

[Just shows the ridiculousness of all these voters (including many on here) for which this has become their single defining issue].

ManAboutTown · 04/12/2023 08:05

EnthENd · 03/12/2023 16:41

I think you can find better allies than the worst Prime Minister since at least the Second World War.

Blair, May, Heath, Brown - and they're just the worse ones from my lifetime

CroftonWillow · 04/12/2023 08:06

She's a 'true blue' conservative. This shouldnt be suprising.

smilesup · 04/12/2023 08:06

People are so naive. Truss would say anything to retain power. This is an obvious vote winner, because it's rational. She would 100% say it the ok the way round if it resonated more with her voter base.

oh for goodness sake.

I can't trust a politician who says that women can have penises because if they can lie about that, with all of the implications that lie has for the lives of women, particularly vulnerable women, then I can't trust them on anything else.

That doesn't make me right wing, a bigot or wanting Truss to be PM.

I just want women to be seen as equally human, this really shouldn't be too much to ask in a democratic society.

Mr Starmer and the Labour Party are to blame for left leaning women being politically homeless not Tory politicians who tell the truth.

You only have to look at the current treatment of Rosie Duffield as opposed to the lording of Eddie Izzard to see the contempt with which the Labour Party hold women and the truth. It's disgraceful.

People who claim that this means like women are aligned with the right are either totally stupid or plain and simple misogynists or quite possibly a combination of the two.

Skyellaskerry · 04/12/2023 08:31

I am constantly horrified to find myself agreeing with certain Tories on this issue when I disagree with them on pretty well everything else. It’s going to very interesting once the general election is announced, and not in a good way for Labour, libdems and greens. Perhaps also the SNP who knows.

YankeeDad · 04/12/2023 08:33

The main problem with this is that she has such low credibility, that her endorsement for anything, no matter for obviously right, could lead people to question whether maybe it could be wrong.

Tories thrive on stoking division and culture wars. Don’t engage

So you think this will mean that people will believe women can have penises and humans can change sex?

Right oh.
