Crumpets - how do you take yours ?

I don't normally buy crumpets but this morning I saw some sourdough ones in the reduced section in Morrison's so I thought it would be rude not to, especially as I bought a fresh block of Lurpak yesterday. I have been known to top them with blue Stilton and potted beef but I generally just use butter. Not too much, mind, as it gets everywhere!

They must be adequately toasted too. Underdone or nuked crumpets are just no good.

Jam and cheese on my crumpets!

TheChosenTwo · 30/11/2023 11:14

Really well grilled (don’t have a toaster) on both sides so they go dark and quite hard and then so much better that it melts out on the plate and marmite. Livid now that I don’t have crumpets.

Quite well done and with just butter on.

Well done with butter, Marmite and melted cheese.

Mogloveseggs · 30/11/2023 11:17

Well done. One with butter, one with melted cheese and one with jam

NannyR · 30/11/2023 11:17

Really well toasted, to the point of being almost burnt, and plenty of salted butter.
Eggy crumpets are good too (dipped in beaten egg and fried like Eggy bread)

Interesting. I'm assuming you toast them before dipping?

No, just dip the cold crumpet in egg and then fry it.

everycowandagain · 30/11/2023 11:23

Eggy crumpets here too, but I add grated cheese to the beaten egg and eat with Branstons pickle.

OttilieBottilie · 30/11/2023 11:24

Agree with the very well done close to burnt. Lurpak and grated cheese on top.

murasaki · 30/11/2023 11:32

Well done, one with butter and pate, one with butter and brie. In fact that's lunch sorted today.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 30/11/2023 11:33

I don't like savoury crumpets, love cheese on toast (and cheese in general!) tried it on crumpets and had to throw them away. Very sad. The closest I get to savoury crumpets is dipping buttered ones in soup, works very well, lots of surface area!

I like lots of butter - it has to make a mess, or it's not enough.

I like butter and jam.

I really like chocolate spread and then cherry jam.

ETA, they must be toasted using the frozen bread function, to get crispy enough!

ConfessionsOfAMumDramaQueen · 30/11/2023 11:40

Lightly toasted with either nutella or butter and honey!

frecklejuice · 30/11/2023 11:41

Loads of butter and melted cheese!

Allmarbleslost · 30/11/2023 11:42

I like them as a bread substitute for beans on toast. Lots of butter, beans, grated cheese on top.

rosao · 30/11/2023 11:43

Either with salted butter or Nutella 😋.

Pale and floppy isn't for me so I toast them for quite a while.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 30/11/2023 11:43

Yes, very well done, and with butter and marmite to start, followed by golden syrup.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 30/11/2023 11:43

Agree that they need to be very well toasted and served with plenty of salted butter.

Cookerhood · 30/11/2023 11:44

Well toasted with a poached egg on top. Delicious.

Klingfilm · 30/11/2023 11:45

Well toasted with a large quantity of butter.

Toddlerteaplease · 30/11/2023 11:46

Well done with butter.

user701 · 30/11/2023 11:46

Well toasted with salted butter, a thin layer of marmite and then cheese.

Or with stilton

Or with pate

AdaColeman · 30/11/2023 11:46

Lightly toasted, three minutes only, then lashings of salted butter pressed down into the holes. There is a real art in cramming the maximum amount of butter into the crumpet.

Beginningless · 30/11/2023 11:48

I’m in the well toasted and crispy gang, with just butter is good but even better is butter then a good peanut butter, or marmite. Or marmite peanut butter. Mmm

Riverlee · 30/11/2023 11:49

Butter or cheese or marmite.

somehow, crumpets toast better under the grill than in a toaster.
