Crumpets - how do you take yours ?

I don't normally buy crumpets but this morning I saw some sourdough ones in the reduced section in Morrison's so I thought it would be rude not to, especially as I bought a fresh block of Lurpak yesterday. I have been known to top them with blue Stilton and potted beef but I generally just use butter. Not too much, mind, as it gets everywhere!

They must be adequately toasted too. Underdone or nuked crumpets are just no good.

With lemon curd or marmite and peanut butter 😋

CattingAbout · 30/11/2023 11:49

Well toasted

Butter and marmite

or

Butter and a poached or fried egg with a runny yolk

CharlottePimpernel · 30/11/2023 11:49

Crispy, with butter and golden syrup. Or: with tomato puree and cheese then grilled so it's like a little pizza.

Usually just butter.
Very occasionally with golden syrup.

Giggorata · 30/11/2023 11:50

Lightly toasted and too much butter.

CornTheCob · 30/11/2023 11:50

Done on a toasting fork, both sides over my coal fire.
Then swamped with butter.

Eggy crumpets here too, but I add grated cheese to the beaten egg and eat with Branstons pickle.

Wow, thanks, I need to try that! Sounds a bit like the M&S café Giant Welsh Rarebit Crumpet. So so good.

Coastalcreeksider · 30/11/2023 11:55

Well done with butter and marmite or if I want something sweet, butter and apricot or bramble jam, home made of course, although not made by me. 😁

User1775 · 30/11/2023 11:56

3, quite well done. 1 with cheese, 1 with peanut butter, one with jam. Start, main, pudd.

idontlikealdi · 30/11/2023 11:56

Properly toasted, as in crispy, proper butter and marmite.

There is nothing worse than a flaccid crumpet.

Tonight1 · 30/11/2023 11:57

Just slightly toasted with a ton of butter.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 30/11/2023 11:58

Very well toasted, preferably burnt around the edges with so much butter it drips everywhere when you bite into it

SABM10 · 30/11/2023 11:58

LubaLuca · 30/11/2023 11:16

Well done with butter, Marmite and melted cheese.

Exactly this! 😋

Lightbulbspark · 30/11/2023 11:58

Purely as a vehicle for melted butter. As much as can be absorbed.

PandaChopChop · 30/11/2023 11:58

Double toasted, lashings of butter and marmite.

SheilaFentiman · 30/11/2023 11:59

This is an amazing thread

SABM10 · 30/11/2023 12:00

Who are all you 'lightly toasted' heathens?! Crumpets need to be crispy and a bit black around the edges!

cardibach · 30/11/2023 12:03

All the ‘well done’ people are mad. Nothing is improved by over toasting.
Lightly toasted so a little bit crisp on the outside, lots of butter. It going everywhere is the point. Maybe some cheese if it’s for an actual meal.

Notimeforidiots69 · 30/11/2023 12:05

Well toasted and dark, lashings of salted butter and plain cottage cheese, or Philadelphia with a sprinkle of pink Himalayan sea salt... Mmm...

Whataretheodds · 30/11/2023 12:06

Mogloveseggs · 30/11/2023 11:17

Well done. One with butter, one with melted cheese and one with jam

This or with scrambled egg

PianPianPiano · 30/11/2023 12:06

With lashings of butter

Sometimes with honey as well

With tomato puree and cheese and grilled so like a crumpet pizza (sometimes with ham or other toppings if I feel like it)

Buttered and with a poached egg, or a chopped up boiled egg on top

(Oh and well toasted, I like a bit of crunch)

TheDandyLion · 30/11/2023 12:07

For breakfast or a snack, well done with plenty of butter.
For a fancy brunch, eggy crumpets with well done streaky bacon and siracha sauce.
For supper, well done with some strong mature cheddar with strawberry jam.

Tisfortired · 30/11/2023 12:13

Another one who has them very well toasted here! OH has them just warm 🤢

I like them with plenty of butter and a scraping of jam - sometimes if I’m in the mood a nutella one.

rainbowsparkle28 · 30/11/2023 12:17

Well done and crispy. With Marmite and butter 😋

Jasmin1971 · 30/11/2023 12:19

Grill both sides,
Butter,
Sprinkle with demerara sugar and sweet cinnamon,
Back under the grill to caramelise.
