Crumpets - how do you take yours ?

I don't normally buy crumpets but this morning I saw some sourdough ones in the reduced section in Morrison's so I thought it would be rude not to, especially as I bought a fresh block of Lurpak yesterday. I have been known to top them with blue Stilton and potted beef but I generally just use butter. Not too much, mind, as it gets everywhere!

They must be adequately toasted too. Underdone or nuked crumpets are just no good.

Toasted until practically crispy and then loads of really salty butter 😍
Sometimes I put cheese and Worcestershire sauce on and stick under the grill.

Well toasted and hot, with butter

I want some now. Might have to make some...

WaitingRoomBoredom · 30/11/2023 13:33

Well-toasted with just butter is the best but I also like Nutella or thinly sliced Cambozola.
Definitely going to try the sugary cinnamon one too.

Either saint agur blue cheese spread (it’s amazing) or, chilli jam with Brie. Always with butter too of course.

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 30/11/2023 13:44

Quite well done with plenty of salted butter. This is the ideal accompaniment to a glass of mulled wine

kirinm · 30/11/2023 13:45

Crumpet, butter, marmite, egg and grated cheese

3peassuit · 30/11/2023 13:48

Lightly buttered with marmite.

fuckssaaaaake · 30/11/2023 13:48

Burnt

kiwiaddict · 30/11/2023 13:49

Oh I was expecting actual crumpet recipes.........

Alilacat · 30/11/2023 13:50

Butter, butter and honey or butter and jam!

DeadButDelicious · 30/11/2023 13:52

Really well done with lots of butter. I also like them with cheese and mushrooms, jam or Nutella.

Now I want crumpets. 😂

kiwimelonlime · 30/11/2023 13:55

Well Done with Butter! If I'm feeling fancy maybe a bit of Jam.. DH has Butter and Marmite 🤢

PurpleChrayne · 30/11/2023 14:07

In the toaster, then a spread of Lurpak followed by marmite, then a slice of cheddar on top.

Theoldwoman · 30/11/2023 14:08

Only ever butter and honey!

Might try jam and cheese though, sounds interesting.

BethDuttonsTwin · 30/11/2023 14:10

Toasted, butter, cheese melted on top.

Tarkan · 30/11/2023 14:10

Toasted so they're not too crispy but not too chewy either. With so much salted butter it drips out the bottom and runs down your chin in every bite.

ExpensiveDecorations · 30/11/2023 14:13

Very well toasted with butter or butter and marmite or soft cheese. NEVER sweet toppings.

CatOnAHotShedRoof · 30/11/2023 14:28

Toasted with butter and marmite. Sometimes melted cheese before adding marmite. Never sweet.

Have almost cone to blows with DH who insists crumpets are sweet, with jam. No. Just no. Revolting.

Janetsmug · 30/11/2023 14:41

Warburtons crumpets only, cooked under grill, not in toaster til almost burnt on the bottoms, then slightly less crispy but still fairly well done on the tops. Add a slice of cold salted butter from a block and leave to melt, then a teaspoon of strawberry jam on each, crumpet perfection!

CotswoldGal · 30/11/2023 14:45

fuckssaaaaake · 30/11/2023 13:48

Burnt

Same and then a good dollop of salted butter - so good!

I also score them with a knife so the butter goes right through 😃

Pushkinini · 30/11/2023 14:53

When I was a nipper, we used to toast them in front of the fire then have them with butter and sugar sprinkled on the top. The taste of childhood in winter.

Now I like them with crunchy peanut butter and sliced banana, just jam or Marmite. A fried egg on top is good too.

wjpa · 30/11/2023 14:55

Loads of butter and some marmite

Or I will enjoy anything at all on them if someone's going to do it for me!

StopStartStop · 30/11/2023 14:55

I don't take crumpets but when I did...
Double toasted, no topping - excellent
Toasted with plenty of butter and golden syrup - heavenly
Toasted with plenty of butter and a little honey - also divine.
