Crumpets - how do you take yours ?

I don't normally buy crumpets but this morning I saw some sourdough ones in the reduced section in Morrison's so I thought it would be rude not to, especially as I bought a fresh block of Lurpak yesterday. I have been known to top them with blue Stilton and potted beef but I generally just use butter. Not too much, mind, as it gets everywhere!

They must be adequately toasted too. Underdone or nuked crumpets are just no good.

Almost burnt with butter.

Done on a toasting fork, both sides over my coal fire.
Then swamped with butter.

@CornTheCob

ill bring the crumpets & real butter if you can provide the fire!!

😋😋😋

Absolutely MUST be Warburton’s and MUST be well done to make them hard and crisp on the outside and fluffy in the middle. Any other make just remain rubbery and I hate them.

Add loads of salted butter to melt through the holes…. Yum

TheTecknician · 18/11/2024 11:24

Must get some more today. I do have some at home but left them in the freezer!

I really want a crumpet now.

MargaritaPracticallyCan · 18/11/2024 11:42

Double toasted, always, with proper butter or Lurpak spread, and a good strawberry jam. Or, if it's an afternoon snack, butter and strong cheddar, not melted tho. Bloody love a crumpet.

Lifestooshort71 · 18/11/2024 11:48

Kept in freezer, two of them toasted twice (to thaw and brown), sprinkle of sea salt then a v small blob of cold real butter to sink in.....followed by a further slab of v cold butter and munched while just starting to melt. Need to gobble to make sure the 2nd one hasn't melted through the holes and gone too squishy.

GiddyRobin · 18/11/2024 15:21

Oh the grill, not burned but browned - I don't like them anaemic. I butter them (proper butter with salt crystals) and then put them back under (on the plate!!) so the butter melts all the way through - I need a sea of it on my plate to mop up! (And lick...)

I also like them with Marmite too. Or Marmite and cheese (a nice aged cheddar). Or Marmite, cheese, and an egg. Soft boiled goes so nicely but I'm also partial to fried! Two with two runny soft boiled eggs, one cut into soldiers.

Oh god now I need crumpets.

tobee · 18/11/2024 16:20

Well toasted. Covered in baked beans. Crispy bacon on top. Preferably with the leftover bacon fat dribbled on top

BobbyBiscuits · 18/11/2024 16:23

Practically on the brink of burnt, with melted toasted cheddar cheese that's almost gone hard under the grill. With pickle on the side.

I used to have them toasted with jam and whipped cream like scones!

thatsawhopperthatlemon · 18/11/2024 16:27

Well done and crispy, with butter which is the only way it should be.

DH has jam on his, the weirdo.

Riverlee · 30/11/2023 11:49

Butter or cheese or marmite.

somehow, crumpets toast better under the grill than in a toaster.

Was going to say this. I don't think toasters have enough power to get them crispy as they should be.
Well toasted under the grill and buttered, with tea. Hard to beat that.

TheTecknician · 18/11/2024 16:34

I use my toaster but do crumpets at full blast for 1.5 cycles. Does the job. Gas grill takes too long.

Just butter, butter and jam, or peanut butter (maybe with jam too!). I wouldn't say no to a savoury crumpet, but I definitely see them as more of a sweet thing.

Justleaveitblankthen · 18/11/2024 16:54

Reallywell done (burnt) here too. Lidl utterly butterly then usually bung a laughing cow on top 🐄😂

specialsauce · 18/11/2024 16:58

dripping with salted butter

(and occasionally a thin slice of mature cheddar to turn it into a lunch)

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 18/11/2024 16:59

I like crumpets really well done, with either butter and honey, or butter and marmite. Sadly a type 2 diabetes diagnosis means no more crumpets for me. 😢😢😢

imnotwhoyouthinkiam · 18/11/2024 17:08

Well done with either butter, butter and marmite or golden syrup.

DS had a couple the other day with clotted cream and jam. Cream tea crumpets.

WeeOrcadian · 18/11/2024 18:12

Another vote for butter, marmite and cheese

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 18/11/2024 19:08

Butter, marmite and a poached egg makes a lovely lunch.

TheChosenTwo · 18/11/2024 20:55

A POACHED EGG?? EXCUSE ME????
😂

TheTecknician · 18/11/2024 21:15

Mature Blue Stilton or Blue Shropshire, plus butter, is equally good on crumpets or toasted muffins. Especially with a glass or two of dry sparkling wine. Nibbles such as mini Cheddars, dry roasted peanuts or Pringles (any variety) are optional but recommended.
