This 'brutal' cold ...

filthypride · 30/11/2023 00:04

Has anyone else had it...?
My timeline has been..

3 days of awful ear ache (zero sleep due to pain)
Day 4 nose started dripping like a tap
Day 5 dry cough started, nose still dripping
Day 6 Sinus pain, headache, nose switching between bunged and dripping, phlegmy cough, nausea and mild to moderate body aches.

I can honestly say I have NEVER EVER had a cold like it.

Have you done a covid test?

tescocreditcard · 30/11/2023 00:13

Mines easing up now - after 5 weeksShock

sprigatito · 30/11/2023 00:19

We've just had Covid again and it was much nastier than the first time we had it. Sinuses clenched, constant headache and really horrendous chest infections. Fever early on, but the rest of it persisted much longer. It's been six weeks and we both still have hacking coughs and are exhausted and achey. Do you have any LFTs you can do?

I'm on week 3-4. Started with a bad migraine, aura and liss of visioning one eye. Then flu-ey cold, shivers and fatigue. Ongoing cold and sinus congestion, which wasngading but now has come back with a vengeance and so much sneezing. My poor nose needs a skin graft and my glasses don't sit right on my nose because my sinuses are swollen again. Ugh 🤧

filthypride · 30/11/2023 02:06

Done 2 tests, both negative.

Doesn't feel quite as bad as when I did have Covid and was bedridden for 2 weeks, with a fever of 39.4 and aching so unbearably that it brought me to tears.

The face pain is on par though... and so is the nausea.

Have you never ever had a cold before? This sounds absolutely normal to me for a bad cold. Try having walking Pneumonia!

DiamondTiddler · 30/11/2023 02:43

It's going around at work. People not testing + until day 4/5.

Gowlett · 30/11/2023 02:46

Into week three of it. It’s terrible. DH has it as well, and said he’s got body aches again, three weeks after first getting it. DS has been sick for three weeks as well. The face pain. My ears…

Roselilly36 · 30/11/2023 03:45

Sorry you are poorly OP. I know so many people with really nasty colds atm. Hope you feel better soon.

What an unhelpful post. I've had many colds and rarely am I as ill with them as the OP describes. Why should she try having pneumonia? What does that have to do with the particularly nasty cold virus that is currently circulating?

Seaitoverthere · 30/11/2023 04:05

Yes I have this and started with the earache as well.

Because it turns the attention from the OP to @GladioliandSweetPeas .**

CatherinedeBourgh · 30/11/2023 06:42

Oh no, I'm on day 4 and was hoping I was through the worst of it...bought 4 boxes of tissues yesterday and am almost out.

SinnerBoy · 30/11/2023 06:44

You have described the lurgy I've had for a fortnight. Today is the first I haven't woken up with an awful runny nose, so hopefully, it's broken.

All sympathy to you!

IwishIdidntlikesugar · 30/11/2023 07:01

Yes, ongoing for weeks but i think it was perhaps 2 separate ones with a short few days respite in between. I have also never had it this long or bad before.

margotrose · 30/11/2023 07:03

Yes - I've had it for over a week now and my ears are still bunged up and my hearing is awful.

I see an Elevenerife has arrived in the chat …

It sounds really nasty, OP, and I’m doing my very best to avoid it, but everywhere I go there are disgusting bloody people hacking and sneezing all over the place - no tissues, no masks, no consideration for anyone else.

I watched a woman make her way round the supermarket yesterday wet-coughing repeatedly into her own hand, then using the same hand to open fridge doors and rummage through the fruit & veg 🤮. It’s like covid never happened.

SinnerBoy · 30/11/2023 08:20

I spoke too soon! More or less as soon as I was up, my nose started streaming. I could do with a bit more sleep, but I have to get my girl to school and walk the dog.

Stephisaur · 30/11/2023 09:39

DH and I both came down with it 6 November. I can remember because it's the first time I've been sent home from work in a LONG time. DH didn't even make it to work. DS had the sniffles the week before, so we knew something was coming but (thankfully) DS seemed to get off lightly. DH and I, however, are still suffering with it!

We took multiple covid tests and all were negative, but we've felt like death. Last week was the first that we started feeling a bit more 'ourselves' but DH's nose is still streaming and I still sound like I'm on 40 a day. If I laugh, I cough so hard I almost throw up.

Really hoping it pisses off in full soon.

filthypride · 30/11/2023 14:42

@GladioliandSweetPeas

It's not a competition!

I have never in my life had a cold like this, no. I've had the flu and been in bed for weeks as I was with Covid, but a common cold, never this bad... adding asthma into the mix doesn't make it fun.

OP posts:
SnapdragonToadflax · 30/11/2023 14:45

Our whole class have had it, lots of subsequent chest and ear infections (even in the parents). Not Covid, no-one has tested positive. It's horrible. I'm two weeks in and feel well but with a tickly cough and buzzing ears.

Sajari63 · 30/11/2023 14:48

So much of it going round. This sadly is the legacy of the idiotic and dangerous lockdowns together with the nonsensical mask wearing. As a result nobody has any immunity.

CornishGem1975 · 30/11/2023 14:50

Yes, it's bloody awful. Swept through the whole household. I've had the same symptoms but in a different order, the earache is driving me insane.

Coyoacan · 30/11/2023 14:50

Thread seems to be the epitome of the British vocation for understatement. I would never call such severe symptoms a cold

BearSoFair · 30/11/2023 14:50

We had it going through work a few weeks ago. Over half of us ended up taking time off (not at the same time luckily for the company!) including one who had never gone off sick in 15yrs. Never known absence like it!
