This 'brutal' cold ...

filthypride · 30/11/2023 00:04

Has anyone else had it...?
My timeline has been..

3 days of awful ear ache (zero sleep due to pain)
Day 4 nose started dripping like a tap
Day 5 dry cough started, nose still dripping
Day 6 Sinus pain, headache, nose switching between bunged and dripping, phlegmy cough, nausea and mild to moderate body aches.

I can honestly say I have NEVER EVER had a cold like it.

@newusern99

'What I have is definitely a cold, just a really shit you one.^'

Please ignore that random 'you' I typed in there, no idea why I did that!!!!!^

Done 2 tests, both negative.

Doesn't feel quite as bad as when I did have Covid and was bedridden for 2 weeks, with a fever of 39.4 and aching so unbearably that it brought me to tears.

The face pain is on par though... and so is the nausea.

I had a cold lately which left me with lingering nausea. GP said colds often cause acid reflux (because of swallowing all the mucus🤢) and to try Gaviscon. It really helped! Could be worth a try, it’s certainly not going to hurt. Hope you feel better soon.

I honestly thought I was getting better but it's back ... Now with cold sores and a sty. Thankfully I've no Christmas plans 😭

Oh that's rough!

It is unfortunately a feature of lingering covid. It's really good at dampening your immune system for quite a long time after the initial infection, and things like cold sores will appear more readily when you're run down. I don't think it's a co-incidence that they've just widened eligibility criteria for shingles jabs

ticktickticktickBOOM · 04/12/2023 18:10

I've woken up with fever, aches and pains, sore throat and constant headache today. Paracetamol plus doesn't make any difference and I've had 3 lots today now.
Really hoping it's not the cold 😫

WeneedSamVimesonthecase · 05/12/2023 17:05

I've got only mild cold symptoms but an absolutely banging headache that isn't shifting no matter what. It's felled me, and I normally "power through" most illnesses.

Over40Overdating · 05/12/2023 17:31

It hit me 4 weeks ago - ear ache and sore throat, hacking cough. Cleared off in a week then the cough came back and won’t go away! I’ll think I’m fine and then hack and hack. Also absolutely shattered - don’t think one ever felt so tired in my life and if I slept for a year, I’d still be knackered.

It may just be a cold but it’s brutal.

TheHawkisHowling · 05/12/2023 20:13

I've still got mine. Just had a Sainsbury's delivery. I nearly collapsed bringing it up the stairs. I feel like I've just been chased by the police for a mile.

WeneedSamVimesonthecase · 05/12/2023 22:15

I'm now developing a sty and earache to go with the stonking headache and sore throat. 😫

piscofrisco · 06/12/2023 09:58

The ear ache has been the worst for me. I felt slightly better yesterday. Today I'm
Bone tired and out of breath just from doing normal things. I can't really remember what it's like to feel alright at this point 🫣

BeverleyMacker · 06/12/2023 10:21

Week 3 of this awful cough and virus. Hardly slept 😞 was laying down in the bath and coughed and felt something go at the side of my back 😔 in agony and it hurts even more to cough. I'm so down. Got Dr this afternoon.

IwishIdidntlikesugar · 06/12/2023 20:35

Im relieved to read that someone else has felt nauseous with it. Its so exhausting. Ive spent too much on various medicines and still not feeling good. The pain from it is going into my top back teeth on on side now, probably sinus related.

QuestionableMouse · 07/12/2023 11:03

Starting to feel shit again! It's RSV according to the practice nurse and a lot of people are struggling to shift it 😕

piscofrisco · 07/12/2023 12:12

And me. Back in bed today.

filthypride · 08/12/2023 09:12

STILL coughing, bunged and just generally feeling yuck.

My BIL had to come home from work yesterday cause he felt so rotten, he went straight to bed!

Dh is now in bed beside me, fast asleep and boiling hot.
Dd is downstairs, the same.
Fuck this honestly. We were due to go says this weekend for my birthday and we really needed it. None of us are well enough. So fed up.

piscofrisco · 08/12/2023 12:32

*go away

DrCoconut · 08/12/2023 12:41

DS is off school with headache and feeling sick. He had a sofa nap yesterday which is not like him at all. Hoping he's better for Monday.

HerbalRefreshmentt · 08/12/2023 13:16

I finally started getting over the cough about three days ago and every day its a little less. Ears are still stuffed full, though, and I have tinnitus in one ear. Honestly I think the turn started when I vomited in the sink from the coughing.

This was absolutely brutal and I really hope I don't get a rebound. Or norovirus.

My 11 year old was like this on Tuesday for a couple of days. I wasn't sure if it was due to her nasal flu spray the day before or a virus.

I had this but with vomiting and severe body aches, as well as the worst night sweats ever. DS1 and DH also had it, more mildly. I tested positive for Covid. They didn't. Anecdotally, I've heard that there is a current strain of Covid that doesn't show up as positive in all cases. It certainly seemed that DH and DS had what I had (DH first, then me, then DS1, a few days after each other) even though I was the only one to test positive.

ItsFunToBeAVampire · 08/12/2023 16:08

I've had this for the last 3+ weeks.
It started with body aches, sore throat and high temperature then went onto the most horrendous sinus pain, headaches and a cough.
I've just finished a week of antibiotics to try and clear up my sinuses and chest. The pain has mostly gone now, although I've only had about 4 days without a headache in the last 3 weeks, painkillers don't touch it either.
I don't have a cough as such, but when I do cough I'm bringing up loads of gunk and can hear that there's still loads of congestion.
Hopefully, the antibiotics have got me over the worst of it.

Papyrophile · 08/12/2023 20:58

It has been given a name: it's the 100 day cough. Sympathy to everyone who has caught it, but it takes a long time to get rid of.

WimbyAce · 09/12/2023 10:45

I have got awful cold at the moment, thought I was getting better but then it started up again! So last weekend I was wiped out and now today I feel like I am back to where I was last Saturday! Lots of green mucous, lovely! Am hoping I can get over this second lot so can start enjoying Christmas things.

SinnerBoy · 09/12/2023 16:56

I've still got a bit of a cough and feel a bit rough, but today is the first day in nearly a month that I haven't woken up with a simultaneously blocked and streaming nose. Yesterday afternoon, I had a highly irritated nostril and realised that something was in it.

It turned out to be a head hair, which, as I pulled it out, evidently went back into my nasal cavity! I must have inhaled it when sleeping, I suppose.
