This 'brutal' cold ...

filthypride · 30/11/2023 00:04

Has anyone else had it...?
My timeline has been..

3 days of awful ear ache (zero sleep due to pain)
Day 4 nose started dripping like a tap
Day 5 dry cough started, nose still dripping
Day 6 Sinus pain, headache, nose switching between bunged and dripping, phlegmy cough, nausea and mild to moderate body aches.

I can honestly say I have NEVER EVER had a cold like it.

Almost Two weeks for me, woke up with a cold and cough last Tuesday and it’s just been getting steadily worse since. I feel like an absolute drama queen now with a long list of symptons. Thankfully the sinus pain has now gone but the rest doesn’t seem to be easing as yet. I’m sure if the earache would just go, I’d feel miles better!

I’ve had bad colds, but this is something else and I’ll be incredibly grateful when it does eventually pass. Hang in there OP, you’re not alone

WeeOrcadian · 30/11/2023 18:19

I'm into week 5. Sorry.

I've just finished a course of steroids but my money is on lasting 3 weeks tops, before I need another course.

TravellingT · 30/11/2023 18:30

It's probably covid, please keep testing. People aren't testing positive for days after symptoms start

I have asthma too. It's done me in! I've just been prescribed steroids and antibiotics. I thought it was a bit overkill but probably the doctor is right. I am having constant chest pains.

I see lots of other people were getting issues with their ears. I haven't had painful ears but I have been soo dizzy. I genuinely felt like I'd stuck my head in Big Ben.

AndIStayedInstead · 30/11/2023 16:42

Yep. Mine was covid.

Otherwise see what’s going on in China, France, the Netherland etc….
Covid has And is destroying our immune system. So we can’t fight normal viruses anymore.

What absolute rubbish.

BeverleyMacker · 30/11/2023 18:40

I'm in my 3rd week :( The cough is something else. I've had to resort to buying incontinence pants for the first time. Humiliating 😭

wonderingwhatlifemeans · 30/11/2023 19:52

We have a bug going round at school that seems to be a mix of coughing then nausea.

peppapig123456 · 30/11/2023 20:10

3 weeks in and still not 100%

boymama82 · 30/11/2023 22:00

Oh good I can't believe how many of us are suffering! We have 2 kids 2 and 3 so we're well used to bugs but this November is killing us off! 😩 I had sinusitis beginning of month with excruciating forehead pain I've never experienced before. Both boys and hubby had chest infections and on Monday I was in tears in the doctors with a hacking cough (wetting myself too) and the head pain was back. Now on doxycycline

LizzieSiddal · 30/11/2023 22:09

My
poor dh is on week 7 of this! He
keeps thinking he’s getting better and then it rears its ugly head again. He’s very rarely ill and it’s really getting him down.

He's promised to phone the Dr tomorrow as I think his chest needs to checked to make sure it’s not infected.

filthypride · 01/12/2023 02:57

The nausea is something I've never had with a cold before. Covid yes, I lost my appetite completely with that and felt relentlessly sick. It's the same now, the constant nausea combined with the gross cough, i almost puked several times today. Luckily the sinus pain and the tap nose has subsided.

My 86 year old step father has now got it. He had a drippy nose on Tuesday, went to bed, threw up everywhere (he's got Alzheimer's so he wasn't aware he was going to be ill), spent all day in bed Wednesday and got up today with a bad cough.

It really is shite.

Ears started crackling and opening about 9pm and are still going, also with watery discharge. May put in a GP call tomorrow as I have a long history of sinus and ear infections but I have never had this.

So tired of painkillers wearing off 4 hours exactly!

SinnerBoy · 01/12/2023 06:52

If you're able to take Ibuprofen, you can stagger it with Paracetamol. Take the Paracetamol, then 3 hours later, the Ibuprofen and then more Paracetamol 6 hours after the first lot.

TruthThatsHardAsSteel · 01/12/2023 07:15

Started 20th Nov with a really bad throat out of nowhere. Followed by endless snot, temperature, body aches, extreme face aches, headaches, sinus issues, lots of ear squeaking, almost lost my voice but cough wasn't that bad.

My nose dried up a few days ago but it's started running again today and I have a cough developing and chest pain. I was never recovered and seem able to produce endless bright green snot from nowhere (I'm so Sorry). My husband caught it a bit (or something much much milder)

Strangely I just want to eat lots of sweet stuff. Sweet sweet sweet, and am unable to exercise the usual self discipline.

Hoping I don't get worse again. It's weirdly reassuring reading this.

piscofrisco · 01/12/2023 07:58

I slept 8 hours last night (which is alot for me) and yet I've woke up feeling worse than yesterday. How can this be bloody possible? I'm going to have to be off work again 😭. And to make matters worse we are having a huge party for DD's (and her friends) 18th this weekend at our house . It's been booked for ages and we can't cancel it. At this point I've no idea how I'm going to manage this. I've been ill for bloody weeks to varying degrees, why now must it choose to be bad again 🫣
The weird thing is my symptoms keep changing slightly so today, headache, body aches, nausea, dry cough, runny nose. Yesterday heavy chest, phlegmy cough, ear ache, vertigo. I don't even think I could go to the drs with it, they'd think I was mental as I can't even accurately describe what I've got.

cuthbertthecat · 01/12/2023 08:24

I am into week 3 of different illnesses - cluster migraines first, horrid virus which wiped me out and now a cold. Dd has been off all week with the same cold which is not like her at all as shes normally up and about quite quickly with any bug (she's a teen).

So I've not slept properly for 3 weeks. Last night it was my throat which woke me up every 2 hours. I desperately want to tuck up in bed and watch films as I'm exhausted but I'm very behind with work and it will just pile up. I'm aiming to get to about 3.30 and then give up. Luckily I can do that and thankfully I can wfh in pjs as I have no external calls.

Get well soon to everyone

filthypride · 01/12/2023 09:54

@SinnerBoy

That's exactly what I've been doing :-)

filthypride · 01/12/2023 09:57

This morning, face pain is back along with what all I can describe as my mouth burning. Weird sensation. Nose is really painful too and running again. Cough is still chesty and disgusting.

Nausea is also making its presence known!

TurningtheLightOff · 01/12/2023 10:07

I’m at the end of week 3. Caught it on a flight and a couple of days into my vacation I was wiped out for a couple of days - chest pain, sore throat, ear pain, cold, body aches and chills. This sort of melted away into a heavy cold and as long as I didn’t do too much I was able to manage my symptoms by dosing myself up for the rest of the vacation. Got home and it’s been variable since - some days are horrendous with my throat on fire, headaches, and yes - coughing so hard I need to make sure there’s nothing in my bladder! Producing a lot of mucus, both my throat and my nose (which is now bleeding from the amount of crap I’m producing). The fatigue is unreal too. I go from feeling like I can finally do something, to needing to sleep desperately an hour later.

I rarely get colds so this has absolutely knocked me. You all have my sympathies.

SinnerBoy · 01/12/2023 10:55

filthypride · Today 09:54

That's exactly what I've been doing :-)

Oh, sorry it's not working!

I've just been round to unplumb my daughter's friend's mam's washing machine. 20 minutes there, a bit of us hauling the damn thing out of an awkward alcove, 20 minutes back and now I feel completely light headed and out of breath!

filthypride · 01/12/2023 18:28

@SinnerBoy

That's okay, feeling much better. I've managed to participate in the land of living today although I had a coughing fit in a very busy shop (into my arm as one should) and the people around me scattered, it was like I'd dropped a stink bomb...

Wasn't offended as I'm not a great lover of people anyway 😂

GladioliandSweetPeas · 30/11/2023 02:35

Have you never ever had a cold before? This sounds absolutely normal to me for a bad cold. Try having walking Pneumonia!

Walking Pneumonia felt like a bad cold. I’ve actually had bad colds that felt worse. Not a helpful comment.

piscofrisco · 01/12/2023 19:03

I've done your parecetamol/ibuprofen relay today @SinnerBoy and it has staved off the aches if nothing else. I might try and get up for a bit shortly. Cough washed off this afternoon a bit, now back with a vengeance 😭

WellWellSaidTheRockingChair · 01/12/2023 19:10

Most time I have a cold I sneeze a bit, or have a sore throat.

OP sounds very properly ill, whom I’m not with colds, I’m just sniffly and feel a bit sorry for myself.
