Catching up on here after a busy few days and thinking about goady threads. The ones that make me super suspicious are the disingenuous, what I would call Double Bluff thread:-

AIBU to think that Labour will be a brilliant government and Starmer is the best thing since sliced bread?

Or maybe I'm just ridiculously paranoid?

I’m suspicious of the threads that ask what people want policies they want Labour to put in their manifesto. I suspect it is some Tory activist trying to get ideas.

This government is enough to make anyone paranoid.

LlynTegid · 10/12/2023 12:09

Hoping the bill that declares Rwanda to be safe fails on second reading, though not optimistic it will.

BIossomtoes · 10/12/2023 12:11

I think it will go through the second reading and get savaged in the Lords - always assuming it has to go back there, does anyone know?

Zonder · 10/12/2023 12:14

DuncinToffee · 10/12/2023 11:45

That would make me ridiculously paranoid as well then.

We are a ridiculously paranoid bunch in here. Perhaps we can get t shirts made.

Notonthestairs · 10/12/2023 12:51

I will need one of those Tshirts Zonder. I also view many of those threads with deep suspicion. I am sure there will increase in volume over the next few months.

I think the bill will go through on Tuesday. I think Jenrick etc will abstain and the One Nationers will vote in favour. The third reading will be a veritable hot mess though.

Regardless The Conservatives are focusing on what they do best, attacking each other. This snippet from the Sunday Times caught my attention -

'Into this infighting have stepped pretenders to the crown. Cabinet colleagues accuse Kemi Badenoch, the trade secretary, of calling another minister to say: “The ship is heading for the rocks. What are we going to do about the captain?” One cabinet minister entertaining thoughts of a leadership run said: “Kemi’s people are already offering jobs. I know that because one of my people was approached.”

Badenoch has denied this.

BIossomtoes · 10/12/2023 12:54

Of course she has 🙄

In other news Clav’s just posted a very entertaining essay on Keir’s curry. It’s worth a read, must have taken her ages.

DuncinToffee · 10/12/2023 13:05

oood, I will have a look for that. Does she mention the bottle in the window in that grainy photo again?

Sadly no. It runs to three paras though. It’s on the Bit Shit thread.

DuncinToffee · 10/12/2023 13:16

Thanks for the laugh Clav Wine

Yeah, I saw that Clav post. Made me roll my eyes.

BIossomtoes · 10/12/2023 15:26

The beauty of it was that she just proved the point of the poster she was disagreeing with. Now things have got so bad the poor love doesn’t know whether she’s coming or going.

newnamethanks · 10/12/2023 17:26

I hope there was one of these in the essay 🍺

Am I right to think that it is Sunak's policy to make the House of Lords look like it is obstructing the will of the commons so everyone will think ah yes, of course its an obvious thing to do, when he has abolishing HoLs in his manifesto?

Not another one?

Where is this one?

LlynTegid · 10/12/2023 18:04

@jgw1 don't think abolishing the Lords will feature in any Tory manifesto, as donors would miss the possibility. If the Lords do obstruct, the Parliament Act can be used, so passing a bill after a year. So the Tories can argue for re-election to get the bill passed, and make the claim that Labour will let in more migrants.

I thought the parliament act only applied to legislation that had been in the manifesto the government was elected on, although I may be wrong on that.
