If you don't like tattoos

Can you say why?

I'm fed up of people who think those with tattoos are rough arsed bikers, thick or common.

Why does it matter to you what my opinion thinks?!

TheresaOfAvila · 12/11/2023 14:19

I’ve yet to see one I thought was an improvement.

The majority look awful on the day they’re done, and the minority which initially look ok inevitably don’t after a while.

Also the reasons why people get them, invariably strike me as being incomprehensible (not what is being remembered but why you would pick a tattoo to do that).

I don’t think people who get tattoos are any thicker or more hairy arsed than the general population, but it really struck me last year when visiting a wealthy area, how much fewer tatts there were compared to the relatively downmarket places I normally frequent.

LakeTiticaca · 12/11/2023 14:19

It's a free country so people can like or dislike whatever they wish.
People can do what they like with their own skin but heavy tattooing IMHO is not a good look

Yes I've yet to see one that is an improvement on the body of either sex. I don't like them either (particularly on women)

On men, i think they only look anywhere near decent if he looks like he's been carved from granite and is prepared to maintain that physique for the rest of his life.

Precipice · 12/11/2023 14:21

I don't like how they look on skin. I think most of them look stupid and ugly.

Stroopwaffels · 12/11/2023 14:22

Because in my experience, people with tattoos are rough arsed bikers, thick or common.

YourNameGoesHere · 12/11/2023 14:25

Why does it matter why people don't like tattoos? Presumably you have tattoos hence the thread so why I or others don't like them makes zero difference?

I'm sure you judge people about other things and make snap decisions based upon people so ignore those who make comments to you and just get on with your day.

Pippim · 12/11/2023 14:26

Tattoos look common.

The higher up the social scale you go the less people with tattoos there are

dumpkin · 12/11/2023 14:27

I used to not mind them but I don’t like them now as they are so ubiquitous.

SeasonalBlue · 12/11/2023 14:27

To me, it's like going into nature and graffitiing all over beautiful trees. They're better off as nature intended: to me a tattoo looks like my child when he's drawn on his hand at school and it needs washing off before bed.

But I realise I'm in the minority and accept that!

I think the poster was being sarcastic and reposting the OPs quote. But it seems to have flown over your head.

LittleGreenDragons · 12/11/2023 14:28

They can start off pretty and artistic but they all end up a bleugh shade of blue that merges into nothingness. Add saggy, wrinkly skin and it's just fecking awful to look at. The owner of those tattoos rarely look at them, it's the rest of us that suffer.

Why should I explain myself to you?

I don't like them. I would not comment out loud in real life on anyone who has one, but my thoughts are my own.

I don’t like them because, they usually look dated I think. I mean, I don’t care if people have them but I’m surprised so many people think permanently marking their skin is a good idea. I do like piercings, unusual hair colours and out their dress though. All can be changed!

RampantIvy · 12/11/2023 14:31

I'm not a fan of tattoos or multiple piercings, but I don't judge people who have them. DD has several of both.

Although, I admit that I do judge someone with facial tattoos.

fourelementary · 12/11/2023 14:32

I just dislike the way they look and I feel that what people like over time inevitably changes so it’s like wearing an out of fashion item for years- it dates people… like you can see the trends o er the years. Pamela Anderson’s barbed wire armlet thing then the “tramp stamp” back ones of the what, late 90s? The dolphins and butterflies from holidays… the Celtic warrior looks… the wrist infinity symbol stuff… the kids the loves… it’s just all a bit, meh- I don’t need to know that about you thanks.

I have a friend with (lots of) tattoos and she knows I'm not keen on them. She asked what I thought and I was honest.

Stroopwaffels · 12/11/2023 14:32

Seriously though, they are not to my taste AT ALL and none of my friends has one, and neither do their DHs. At least not one I have ever seen.

I do judge people who have them all over their hands or upper chest, neck, face - anywhere clearly visible through clothing.

CesareBorgia · 12/11/2023 14:32

I wouldn't criticise anyone for getting a tattoo - the world would be dull if we all liked the same things. I wouldn't get one because:

  1. They often look like a bruise or injury from a distance
  2. They can discolour over time and look smudgy/unattractive
  3. I couldn't guarantee I would still feel as strongly about whatever I had got tattooed with in 10 years' time.
