If you don't like tattoos

Can you say why?

I'm fed up of people who think those with tattoos are rough arsed bikers, thick or common.

I don't like them because they all look the same somehow, regardless of what image has been chosen.

Caggers · 12/11/2023 14:34

I’ve never seen an attractive tattoo.

MagpiePi · 12/11/2023 14:34

The trend for lots of small ones randomly placed over your arms and legs looks like you’ve been scribbled on by a toddler with a felt tip.

I don't like them. I think some of the artwork is beautiful and very well done and would make a for a lovely picture to hang on a wall.

However, 95% or more of the tattoos I see on the general public are not of that artistic standard and just look horrendous.

They just look awful, many are faded and I can't see the point of having names tattooed on the back of your leg etc.

I also find it odd when people have words in Chinese writing when they don't speak Chinese.

Tribal signs on someone strolling around B&M is ridiculous!

BitofaStramash · 12/11/2023 14:36

They range from not very nice to really hideous.

Some people really spoil their bodies.

Wolfpa · 12/11/2023 14:38

I’ve yet to see one I thought was an improvement.

The majority look awful on the day they’re done, and the minority which initially look ok inevitably don’t after a while.

Also the reasons why people get them, invariably strike me as being incomprehensible (not what is being remembered but why you would pick a tattoo to do that).

I don’t think people who get tattoos are any thicker or more hairy arsed than the general population, but it really struck me last year when visiting a wealthy area, how much fewer tatts there were compared to the relatively downmarket places I normally frequent.

What about people who have had their nipples tattooed on after a mastectomy?

I have a friend with (lots of) tattoos and she knows I'm not keen on them. She asked what I thought and I was honest.

I don't say what I honestly think, I tend to gloss over.

edwinbear · 12/11/2023 14:41

I don’t like them either, to me, they just look scruffy. But if other people like them, and want them, that’s obviously completely up to them. I don’t judge people for having them, I just don’t think they look very nice.

Stroopwaffels · 12/11/2023 14:42

The poster said she was YET TO SEE one she felt was an improvement. Tattooed-on nipples are something you are unlikely to see unless intimately acquainted with the individual in question.

Spirro · 12/11/2023 14:43

You wouldn’t put a bumper sticker on a Porsche, would you?

Toddlerteaplease · 12/11/2023 14:43

I just done like them! Especially facial and neck ones. No one is improved by them.

applepieandtea · 12/11/2023 14:44

everyone of my siblings have tattoos but i dont have any.
It up to other people what they have.
My eldest sister is covered with ink.
Body only.
I think its a step to far when people start tattooing their faces.
But then its not my face so dont care.

TheShellBeach · 12/11/2023 14:44

I think they're very ugly.
And no matter what people say they're supposed to be, they always just look like dark blue lines.

EmpressSoleil · 12/11/2023 14:47

I don't mind the odd tattoo but for some they see to develope an addiction and they don't stop until they're absolutely covered. Which then to me looks really ugly. Like Brad from mafs. So i do dislike things like full sleeve, neck, face tattoos etc. I just think they're ugly.

Yes, I think that’s my issue — in theory, I have absolutely no issue with people decorating themselves, but in practice, they often make people just look scribbled-on, like a graffitti’d wall covered in years of blurry spraypainted tags.

user1471447924 · 12/11/2023 14:48

I think they look scruffy, and, yes, they look trashier on women than they do on men.

Teentaxidriver · 12/11/2023 14:48

“Very high powered individual within the finance industry” made me laugh. Meaning what? I love that the referencing of for genetic individuals by the jobs that they do is regarded as substantiating the view that tattoos aren’t common or naff.

Spirro · 12/11/2023 14:43

I would - I'd get one saying 'My other car is a Skoda'

Teentaxidriver · 12/11/2023 14:48

four not for

susiedaisy1912 · 12/11/2023 14:50

The small scribbly ones look awful imo. But the bigger colourful professionally done ones can look nice. But I don't like them on a persons hands face or neck.

MrsAvocet · 12/11/2023 14:50

I just don't find them attractive. I don't like piercings either, I don't even have my ears pierced. I don't really have a "reason" as such, any more than I can explain why I don't like certain foods or listening to particular pieces of music. Stilton doesn't taste good to me, The Lark Ascending makes me want to tear my ears off and tattoos aren't visually appealing to me. Just personal taste.

EveryKneeShallBow · 12/11/2023 14:51

SeasonalBlue · 12/11/2023 14:27

To me, it's like going into nature and graffitiing all over beautiful trees. They're better off as nature intended: to me a tattoo looks like my child when he's drawn on his hand at school and it needs washing off before bed.

But I realise I'm in the minority and accept that!

This is also what I think. Never seen one I liked. But what people do with their own skin is their business. My kids have them, I hate them and think they would look better without them. Just an opinion.

doomday · 12/11/2023 14:53

They look really ugly. From a distance it's actually hard to tell if someone has an unfortunate birthmark scar or tattoo at times. So I just don't see the appeal.
Also never seen one I liked . People go on about the artwork but seriously I find it horrible.
Also let's be honest it's hardly a classy look is it. It always lowers my impression of someone.
I am always polite and never ever express my true feelings about them to anyone's face.
But honestly yes I think it looks awful and is common.

GrandHighPoohbah · 12/11/2023 14:53

I don't like them because in my experience they tend to look scruffy at best, and heavy tattooing makes the person look grimy, especially the darker coloured ones.

Beezknees · 12/11/2023 14:53

Why do you care?

I am a tattoo lover with over 50 tattoos. They have massively improved my self confidence as I have mottled skin that looks grey/blue in winter and the tattoos hide that, they also cover my stretch marks.

People are free to dislike them if they want, it's not their body and I'm not bothered if people don't like mine. If they want to judge me as "common" before even getting to know me then that's not someone I'd want to be friends with anyway!
