I hate my new car, I feel sick

It’s my fault, I was easily talked into it by the sales person.

It’s such a basic car and I’m embarrassed by it. It’s expensive and I want to cry

OP if this is not a wind up-

is it that you thought for £30k you’d get a better car and now you are actually driving it, you are realising a lot of that £30k has gone on the badge, not the car and a less desirable make would mean you could get a better quality car for the same money?

can you return it? It might mean the dealership person will be grumpy but ignoring that, £30k is a lot of money to spend on something that’s not quite right.

Guest234562 · 11/11/2023 13:36

Thank you for the laugh this has given me today, I genuinely really needed one.
trade you my 11year old Toyota aygo without central locking and scrapes on the bumpers (thanks DP).
bloody cheap to run though Grin

LizzBurg · 11/11/2023 13:36

Sorry, no sympathy. You would have had ample opportunity to stop the sale going ahead.

GrazingSheep · 11/11/2023 13:37

Is the dealership legally obliged to take the car back just because the op doesn’t like it?

RedToothBrush · 11/11/2023 13:37

getinthedust · 11/11/2023 12:44

It’s a Mercedes A Class and I just think it’s basic and a car a parent would buy a child who just passed their test.

Meanwhile in the real world....

This quite possibly gets my vote for the worst thread ever on MN.

UpUpUpU · 11/11/2023 13:38

You sound like a complete drip OP. Grow a backbone and return the awful car. Buy something you actually want after doing some research and test driving them.

DumpedByText · 11/11/2023 13:38

Gosh that must be so devastating for you, a crappy Mercedes, absolutely dreadful! 🙄

lightinthebox · 11/11/2023 13:38

You think your car is basic and embarrassing, but want a standard SUV that you see everywhere, have no originality or interesting features and are utterly boring to look at?

I think you’re confused about a car that’s embarrassing to be seen in ….

uhOhOP · 11/11/2023 13:40

Even if this is a joke, I know what you mean, OP. I wouldn't drive an A Class even if it was free.

Packetofcrispsplease · 11/11/2023 13:40

Oh Lord won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz …🎤🤣

Perhaps you could exchange it for a grip?

Brilliant!!

@getinthedust poor you. The shame!!!

Fingeronthebutton · 11/11/2023 13:41

I I feel your pain. I can’t imagine turning up at the gym ( you do go to one, don’t you) in a Mercedes A class, the shame.
If anyone takes the piss ( I’m sure they will at the class of gym you go to) tell them it’s a curtesy car.

Dontcallmescarface · 11/11/2023 13:41

I'll swap it for my Vauxhall Adam...then you'll see what embarrassing and basic really looks like.

RedToothBrush · 11/11/2023 13:42

getinthedust · 11/11/2023 13:12

I didn’t mean an SUV merc, I wasn’t referencing any make. I just thought maybe this time I should have gone for something bigger than my previous and be high up driving rather an low to the ground.

I drove a Kia Sportage for a week after a car rammed me going through a red light and the difference was crazy. Almost felt safer being up higher.

You are an anxious driver who wants a bigger car but has a fixation with brands. What could possibly go wrong?

You should be forced to drive a 'shit brand' city car for a month. Nope make that three months.

I loved my Adam 🚗💨

You should be embarrassed OP, but the car is the least of your worries.

RedRiverShore4 · 11/11/2023 13:43

What a load of old twaddle

This a wind up surely???
WTF, some people live in a different world to the rest of us!

Nanamuffin · 11/11/2023 13:45

Why the snobbery? It is most definitely not a basic car. A Mercedes A class is a fantastic car and I drive it as a family car. Not my weekend driving to the cottage car.
and I traded down from an SUV and white Range Rover 😂

EnolaJ · 11/11/2023 13:46

I really don't know why you're getting so much stick for this post

I 100% know what you mean by the Mercedes. There's always a car that has the good finance deals, and it comes with a bit of reputation for it being an 'everyone who wants to try show off car' and therefore feels basic as in 'basic b*tch'. It's also been BMW and Range Rover evoques in the past. Also from a personal choice point of view, Mercedes Benz on the lower models have a really ugly interior and don't feel really nice to drive. It doesn't feel like you'd expect a Mercedes to feel. Audis are the same in this.

I'm not saying it's a view everyone shares, and there absolutely will be people out there who wish they were in the position to have this type of dilemma. But let's not tear someone down because they've gained a better job as OP has said to be able to afford this type of dilemma.

Send the car back, get a different one. I think SUV would be my preference too, you do feel a bit more protected

Is that you Janice?!

DogInATent · 11/11/2023 13:47

My point was I wasn’t sure if it wa something an 18 year old boy would get as opposed to a woman in her late 20s that finally has a job that doesn’t severely underpay me

Your friends all have Porsches?

Kendodd · 11/11/2023 13:47

Whats wrong with basic OP?

Off on a tangent about first cars. When I was a teenager, I knew lots of rich people. One of my friends (a teenager) first car was a Ferrari. His dad bought it for him and in Kansas, in the late 1980s, it was $97,000!!! I didn't even have a car.

I agree with you OP. Mercs are incredibly common and unclassy. Get it changed.

Skodas and Nissans are lovely.
