I hate my new car, I feel sick

It’s my fault, I was easily talked into it by the sales person.

It’s such a basic car and I’m embarrassed by it. It’s expensive and I want to cry

OP this has to be a joke?

Paperbagsaremine · 11/11/2023 12:57

Do you actually not like driving the car OP, or are you, for some reason, just not thinking straight right now?

We should always listen to our feelings - but be careful about obeying them all the time. Feelings are not facts and they are NOT necessarily a good guide to what's in our best interest - as anyone who's struggled to study, exercise, or save will know!

I was driving an Audi A3 before but it was 10 years old now (almost unreliable as it broke down twice) and I have a better job so I thought I’d treat myself.

But then I was like if I’m paying this much then I should have got a better car? It’s not a horrible car at all, I’m just not sure it’s worth it.

It does sound awful OP. Imagine if anyone who knows you saw you driving a £30k car. It would be truly shaming, you should immediately return it and get something befitting your social status. Make sure you spend enough money to impress your friends and put yourself into as much debt as you can survive.

Paperbagsaremine · 11/11/2023 13:02

I do know someone who decided they didn't like their brand new £60k car - but not in time to take it back - they lost £11k by trading it for what they decided they did want.
Oddly enough a mutual friend was dying young of cancer at the time, so obviously you have to wonder if it was about the car at all...

Anyway, if there is some sort of cooling off period, do decide fast!

Bluetrews25 · 11/11/2023 13:02

I thought you were going to say it was a Tesla.
I'd feel a bit sick driving around in a car whose badge looks just like a mirena coil. And the company's owned by someone who makes me feel a bit sick to look at, too.

Slumming it in a Merc.
Poor you, OP, poor you.

@Mojodojocasahaus

im thinking 2 sets of twins & a DH that pulls his weight!

No idea what you’re referencing as I’m not chronically on Mumsnet to get this joke, so if you’re trying to insult me then it’s a bit wasted.

I drive a Ford Fiesta and am sooo embarrassed for you OP. What a terribly common, basic car 🙄🙄🙄

Purpleavocado · 11/11/2023 13:02

But its hardly a first car type car is it? It's a nice car!

itsalongwaybackfromsorry · 11/11/2023 13:03

Good grief.

What a problem to have.

TheFormidableMrsC · 11/11/2023 13:04

Fucking hell, my first car was a 25 year old Mini. I don't know anybody who got a Merc as a first car and my background is privileged. Don't be a dick OP, just take it back and buy something less "basic" 🙄

I think it’s the size and I’m very low to the ground, I thought maybe I should have got something bigger like an SUV.

For a second I thought you were going to say you’d bought a Citroen, and I’d have understood why you were embarrassed, but I think you’re fine with a Merc!

My first car was a Citroen! I loved it!!

this post is a bit like complaining your diamond shoes are too tight.

If you can't return the car, you are going to have to make the best of it. At least you know that in the event you have to swerve to avoid an elk, the A class won't tip over. (long story)

CavalierApproach · 11/11/2023 13:06

I don’t understand this bit, @Paperbagsaremine — am curious about what you mean

Yetanothernewname101 · 11/11/2023 13:07

Work out exactly what it is that you don't like about it. Your car is something that needs to make you smile, do what you need it to do, you need to enjoy spending time in it. It's too big a purchase to not be happy with it.
I ordered my new mini the other year and didn't realise that they'd changed the orange colour since my old neighbour had bought theirs. When I went to collect it I just looked at it and went 'oh no'. The salesman made me a cup of tea, took me back inside, chatted about nonsense, waited til I'd finished said cup of tea and then said 'lets go look at it again and see, and if you still don't like it then it's no problem we can order you a different one.' Once I'd got over the surprise of the colour I absolutely loved that wee car and it made me smile every time I went to sit in it.
Sounds to me like the sales person was too interested in their commission. If you really don't like the car, take it back and get something else.

SugaredCookie · 11/11/2023 13:07

I wouldn’t say it’s a childs car? My neighbours both have the same car and they’re in their mid 40s.

clary · 11/11/2023 13:08

getinthedust · 11/11/2023 12:44

It’s a Mercedes A Class and I just think it’s basic and a car a parent would buy a child who just passed their test.

Jesus this post must be a joke.

I assume an A class is the lowest level Merc but even so! I supported my son to buy his own 10-year-old Citroen C1 when he passed his test. With his own money.

Grow up OP. Or take your car back. Or sell it.

ShoesoftheWorld · 11/11/2023 13:08

Oh, you've gone and overdone it with the SUV reference.

The irony that you think an A class is basic and you want an SUV instead… don’t worry, there are plenty of white Range Rover Evoques out there to choose from! You could get a diamanté steering wheel cover to look really unique

Unable to express the upset about the dying friend, took it out instead on the car dealership.

Lots of people do questionable stuff when bereavement looms but this was on the expensive side...

ShoesoftheWorld · 11/11/2023 13:08

I didn’t mean an SUV merc, I wasn’t referencing any make. I just thought maybe this time I should have gone for something bigger than my previous and be high up driving rather an low to the ground.

I drove a Kia Sportage for a week after a car rammed me going through a red light and the difference was crazy. Almost felt safer being up higher.

Definitely never wanted a Range Rover. There’s many other SUVs out there.

I’m talking about more a safety thing and begging up higher when you drive, rather than low to the ground which is what I’m used to.

I didn’t even get a car when I passed, I had to car share. My point was I wasn’t sure if it wa something an 18 year old boy would get as opposed to a woman in her late 20s that finally has a job that doesn’t severely underpay me.

Most of the teenagers round here are in vintage Bentleys so I reckon you’re good.
