It’s my fault, I was easily talked into it by the sales person.

It’s such a basic car and I’m embarrassed by it. It’s expensive and I want to cry

No it doesn’t! I’m guessing you’ve never actually been in a fast car! It’s not an opinion that car with an 11 second 0-62 time is slow, in fact it quite hard these days to buy a car that’s much slower!

Also, I’m not entirely sure what you think sports mode does to overall performance? The answer is very little, the main thing you’re noticing is the sharper throttle response caused by a different throttle map, less pedal travel = wider throttle opening.

They don’t make a 1.8 Corolla with a 7.5s 0-62 time unless it’s a really old supercharged one but I think that was slightly quicker. Not that a 7.5s 0-62 is even remotely a fast car anyway.

Do you get a cooling off period when you've gone into a dealership to make the purchase? I thought it was for online purchases only. So the garage just have to take the hit of thousands of £s because someone's just changed their mind??

They don't really have to take any hit as within seven days the car will not have depreciated - unless it's the next month and there will be a movement but if it was that close to the end of the month, that was a risk anyway. These places buy the cars at much less than they sell them for so I have zero sympathy. The only point is an additional owner but that's negligible. There is another thread going about a lady who had a mechanical breakdown within a few days and they are not letting her return the car BUT it is within her rights, they're just playing silly buggers.

@Shade17 for goodness sake. Blossomed and I had a friendly chat, and we don't always see eye to eye but have been on here for years. She made a helpful recommendation with a relevant to our lifestyle observation. The Corolla is pokey for its class and does not pretend to be a high performance car. That is precisely what I want.

Now do please give it a rest and drop it.

Can recommend the Volvo - had it as my last car when we were living in the uk. Safe, very comfortable and really great to drive!
