I hate my new car, I feel sick

It’s my fault, I was easily talked into it by the sales person.

It’s such a basic car and I’m embarrassed by it. It’s expensive and I want to cry

Don't! My dad wants one of these!

I’m hiding that ad from DH. It would be his dream vehicle.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 11/11/2023 18:13

I normally think that berating OPs for posting about first world problems is unreasonable, but not this time.

If you'd said 'I know it's an expensive car but it just isn't as nice as I thought, considering how much money I spent on it' then that would be fair enough. But saying you're embarrassed by driving a £30k car because it's basic and it's something a teenager would drive... I mean FFS. You must be living in a spoilt princess bubble.

Shade17 · 11/11/2023 18:21

So out of interest who made the engine in my old one then? It was the A250 AMG line

Pretty sure that was a Merc engine

Wishimaywishimight · 11/11/2023 18:22

You "feel sick" because your brand new Merc is not to your taste?

Well, life can be challenging at times as we all know. I guess this is one of those times...

FlissyPaps · 11/11/2023 15:45

Phew. I’m currently driving round in my 12 year-old banged up Fiat500. So this gives me hope that someone will be willing to buy it off me for their child’s first car instead of OP’s “shit” Merc 😅

If your rear window demister works and you don't have to whack the top of the dash to get the interior instrument lights to come on, you can definitely sell it!

CommonOrNot · 11/11/2023 16:35

Oh give over. “I’m struggling, so join me”

people have different circumstances and different standards of living. Just because some people are struggling doesn’t mean nobody is allowed to complain about their lives if they dare to not be crying poverty and scraping together the money for a loaf.

this is OPs life, granted that may look different to yours but she’s entitled to help and advice on here just like everyone else.

I bought a new house but I hate it, it's a very basic castle and only has 2 pools and 12 bedrooms and no space for a pony, a type of house parents buy their kids when they first move out of the family home to go to uni!

My first car was a £400 Vauxhall nova 😂

Ah my first car was £600 and was a classic: a beautiful pale blue Sunbeam Alpine series 3 convertible. Door sills were badly rusted but I LOVED that car with a passion I have never felt for a car since. I used to love old cars, back when you could get a relatively decent one for under a grand. I had some fab vehicles from the late fifties and sixties. They broke down all the time, usually no heating, one of them couldn't reverse, MOT's were a yearly nightmare and the AA pretty much banned me from calling them... but they brought me so much joy. I once drove from London to Dundee in the Alpine to spend Christmas with my grandparents. It took me twelve hours as the inside of the windscreen kept freezing up.

Them were the days

boamorte · 11/11/2023 18:51

Basic and expensive?

Great example of paying for the badge

It always amazes me how many of my friends get talked into cars by the salesman.

When I am buying a car, I always do my research first and decide exactly what make, model, spec etc I’m interested in before I even set foot in a showroom. Not influenced by salesmen at all, I go and buy the car I have decided I want.

Oh god me too.

Watched endless youtube videos too... I loved the contrast between the mad ranting of the Carwow guy and a german reviewer who was incredibly detailed about every tiny thing.

And when I went into the final showroom I actually said the the sales guy "I had one of these in 2010 and I hated it, worst car I have ever had... so unless they have totally changed it's going to be a no and it's going to have to seriously impress me on the test drive."

PhilippaPage · 11/11/2023 18:53

I’m talking about more a safety thing and begging up higher when you drive

Ah, so it's a begging thread. Grin

OP reminds me of many girls I was at school with ("OMG, Daddy has only bought me a brand new Beemer for passing my test").

I do know someone who bought a brand new Porsche while pregnant. She threw up in it because it triggered her morning sickness, and she then had to sell it because she couldn't get it in without throwing up.

Same here, I always see to it that I know more about the car than they do.

I get it. I had a Kia once. It had everything. And bells and whistles. A merc will feel lacking now.

pointythings · 11/11/2023 19:33

Trade you for my 7 year old Ford Focus Estate with over 100k miles on the clock (which has never let me down).

Sorry, not really.

sunglassesonthetable · 11/11/2023 20:08

Honestly, the " basic " A Class Mercedes.

Just that sentence paints such a picture. We all know what that picture is.

Shade17 · 11/11/2023 20:15

Honestly, the " basic " A Class Mercedes.

Well, it’s about as dull as you can get, white-goods motoring for non-petrolheads.

Couch25k · 11/11/2023 20:20

@getinthedust is it white by any chance?

SabrinaThwaite · 11/11/2023 20:58

You mean it’s a perfectly acceptable car for people that don’t need a mechanical penis extension?

Shade17 · 11/11/2023 21:12

You mean it’s a perfectly acceptable car for people that don’t need a mechanical penis extension?

Quite the opposite. It’s exactly the kind of shit car bought by people for whom the image is way more important than the driving experience. Don’t confuse petrolheads with posers.

SabrinaThwaite · 11/11/2023 21:12

See PP.

Whatevs 🤣

AuContraire · 11/11/2023 21:17

getinthedust · 11/11/2023 12:44

It’s a Mercedes A Class and I just think it’s basic and a car a parent would buy a child who just passed their test.

Oh for fuck sake OP, wind your neck in.

Hayliebells · 11/11/2023 22:23

Tbh, I would never say this IRL but Mercedes are frightfully common. But then I have an old money mindset. If you don't need a Landy Defender, you don't really need a car.
