I hate my new car, I feel sick

It’s my fault, I was easily talked into it by the sales person.

It’s such a basic car and I’m embarrassed by it. It’s expensive and I want to cry

Tbh, I would never say this IRL but Mercedes are frightfully common. But then I have an old money mindset. If you don't need a Landy Defender, you don't really need a car.

Yes majority of car brands are frightfully common, strange that?

I personally wanted a Dodge Challenger, but alas it’s not common enough.

"Basic" ffs. Grow up.

getinthedust · 11/11/2023 13:13

Definitely never wanted a Range Rover. There’s many other SUVs out there.

I’m talking about more a safety thing and begging up higher when you drive, rather than low to the ground which is what I’m used to.

No you’re not, you said the car was ‘basic’ and what you’d give a child to learn to drive in. So don’t pretend now it’s a safety issue. It’s a snobby brat issue.

Ah, so it's a begging thread. Grin

OP reminds me of many girls I was at school with ("OMG, Daddy has only bought me a brand new Beemer for passing my test").

I do know someone who bought a brand new Porsche while pregnant. She threw up in it because it triggered her morning sickness, and she then had to sell it because she couldn't get it in without throwing up.

You know I bought this myself right?

But apparently I’m not allowed to have buyers remorse over spending money on something that I now know I don’t like.

You are actually unbelievable. The worst kind of spoilt brat.

There are parents out there who can't feed their children. There are children dying in wars and famine. There are people homeless.

There are people struggling with discrimination of race, religion, sexual orientation, age etc.

There are people out there in abusive relationships, trapped in a never-ending cycle of violence and control...

There are people dealing with endless suffering. With disability, with disabled children, with no hope.

Tip of a massive iceberg of pain, suffering, exclusion and loss.

And you are whinging because you picked the 'wrong' expensive, luxury car!!!! Cry me a fucking river!!! It's despicable.

Irritatedandfedupandsad · 12/11/2023 01:08

All the A class mercs in our area are stolen by drug dealers !

It makes sense you were poor growing up, as it's terribly nouveau riche to be this obsessed with cars as a status symbol

WrongSwanson · 12/11/2023 01:28

Emphasis on the word unbelievable Wink@adriftinadenofvipers

Whatever. Continuing frothing at the mouth to get your thrills on … Mumsnet.

😂

It’s a Mercedes A Class and I just think it’s basic and a car a parent would buy a child who just passed their test.

Oh, poor you. A basic Mercedes. A child's car.

Is this a wind up?

Cantdecide35 · 12/11/2023 04:20

if you’re not happy with the car change it. Life is too short and it’s all relative. I bet everyone on the thread has bought something at some point and wished they hadn’t, regardless of value.
I drive an old car, cat N, peeling paint, backfires, exhaust is clinging on somehow and it’s a miracle it’s still going. However just because I can’t afford a newer car it doesn’t mean I have to be nasty to someone who can and isn’t happy with their choice.
I’m saddened by the vitriolic responses on this thread, it’s become quite the pile-on.

WaitingfortheTardis · 12/11/2023 04:27

It's interesting how people have such different associations with different cars. For me all Mercedes seem to be old people cars, VWs and Volvos are for those who are safety conscious, Jaguars are for those who like to be flash, Vauxhalls are for families, Range Rover is either country or naff depending on the version etc. Others will have totally different ideas for the different brands, but it doesn't actually matter what anyone thinks.

I think if you don't like it change it, but don't base it on how you think others will see you, do it on what you really think.

IAmNeon · 12/11/2023 04:33

Awww OP, yeah that's really crap. I'll take it off your hands if you like? I've got a tenner floating around somewhere...it won't be more than that for an embarrassing pile of shite of a car like that, will it? I'm expecting some change TBH

"It’s such a basic car and I’m embarrassed by it."

All the wailing and handwringing over this car, and in the very second post OP acknowledges she knows she has a 7 day cooling off period and can return it.

I have zero interest in status symbols or expensive cars, but this is a tone-deaf thread in a cost of living crisis when people literally can't afford to eat or keep warm.

Except it’s not my own narrative, it’s your actual words, that you wrote… on your own thread that you started… on mumsnet…

Azulocean · 12/11/2023 07:05

I think you should change it. You wanted a higher ride newer car to treat yourself, if you’re not happy use the 14 day to return and keep shopping.

Audi have the q5 around the same size as the a3 but higher seating. Or have a good research on Parker’s and test drive. Don’t commit to any car, make excuses and come back to sign so you know you’re happy :-)

Enjoy!

The jealousy on this post!!

Surely OP is allowed to regret something she spent her money on? Her money that she earned fair and square?
Just because not everyone can afford a Mercedes doesn’t mean she’s any less entitled to like hers…WTF?!

Yep. Yawn. Pure jealousy.
