Close ally of the former prime minister Boris Johnson announces he’s standing down. CCHQ braced for many more Conservative MPs to announce intention not to stand for next election in coming weeks/months.

Duddridge is the 56th Tory to stand down already (incl independents who were elected as Tories). Still a year to go.

Oh dear "Dudders" going.

Are any of them going to stand at the next GE? Apart from Braverman of course.

I'm expecting to hear that the member for Richmond (Yorks) will not be contesting his seat any minute now.

Roussette · 20/11/2023 16:23

I would love love love my MP to stand down. He's been in the post for 32 flippin' years, he spends a lot of time nowhere near the constituency but over the other side of country), he is chocolate teapot material... when will I hear he is retiring ho hum
The only way to get a reply from him and I haven't written all year, is to complain to Conservative Central Office and the local Conservative office. I would be happy bunny if he went

Cornettoninja · 20/11/2023 16:24

I would buy the hardback copy of Vallances’ Covid diaries if they were published.

I am excited for World Class Education. No doubt he will be expanding on the details of that shortly to include the ditching of one size fits all rote learning tests that have little to do with education (except in the narrowest possible sense of the word).

Goodbye school league tables. Goodbye Ofsted, its been lovely knowing you.
Lets build an education system that teaches students skills, that they need to progress.

No doubt World Class Education will include a lot of work on logic and developing critical thinking skills. That way maybe voters will be better able to detect politicians' bullshit.

Has he forgotten what was is his 5 pledges at the start of the year, or does he think we have forgotten?

At least it doesnt' include the stop the boats nonsense.

  1. Halve inflation
  2. Grow the economy
  3. Reduce government debt
  4. Cut waiting lists
  5. Stop the boats
And we can hold him to that! So I would also like to know if these new ones are as well as, or instead of? The old ones obviously were a bit hard maybe https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/65647308.amp
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak during a press conference in Downing Street to launch the NHS Long Term Workforce Plan

Rishi Sunak's five promises: What progress has he made?

In January the prime minister said five priorities should be used to hold his government to account.

I think he’s managed to find the answer to the question ‘is he stupid or is it an act’.

Piggywaspushed · 20/11/2023 18:59

Well, this sounds like excellent news for Argentina...

Poor Sam Coates having to listen to charisma vacuum Rishi Sunak give a speech on a Monday morning in November. He needs a pay rise.

Why does Sunak sound so bored when he speaks?
Clearly didn't have a world class public speaking education, should have gone to Eton instead.

bombastix · 20/11/2023 19:11

@jgw1 - because he is bored with what he is saying, and he has never really had to be charismatic so does not have these skills.

It used to be leaders of parties had a few years in opposition to smooth out these wonky elements before hitting an election with a new image. Now they change so often there is no time.

DuncinToffee · 20/11/2023 19:39

Sunak has lost the Young Conservatives, they send him a resignation letter

Where have the boats gone?

Bring back Boris boats!

If Rees-Mogg ever got anywhere near the top job….

seriously, how has the globe collectively managed to produce such a generation of fucked up leaders? Was it all the lead in petrol or something?

As you may or may not know, I'm in Sweden and my son's rural village school has had lots of 'observers' from the UK. They come in packs to learn about how education is done here. My DS always gets picked as their guide as he's best at speaking English, being a brit. Based on what he's done with them I'd expect the new world class education to include identifying, picking and cooking wild mushrooms, how to catch crayfish and cook them on an open fire, and how to spot trolls in the forest. Not sure how it'll work in an innercity school but no doubt it'll be grand now that Rishi's on it.

RafaistheKingofClay · 20/11/2023 20:33

If we could spot the trolls in government that would be a start.

bombastix · 20/11/2023 20:36

"I think I saw a Braverman, miss!"

"Stay clear, it's unpredictable and subject to rabies"

MrTiddlesTheCat · 20/11/2023 20:43

😂

tobee · 20/11/2023 20:53

"seriously, how has the globe collectively managed to produce such a generation of fucked up leaders? Was it all the lead in petrol or something?"

And why are people voting for them? 😳🤯😣

newnamethanks · 20/11/2023 21:07

I don't know. Where have the people gone who used to think before reacting? It seems like 90% of people have had their brains sucked out. Midwich Cuckoos.

TheABC · 20/11/2023 21:25

"Where have all the thinkers gone, and where are all the plods?
Where's the streetwise socialist to fight the rising odds?
Isn't there a civil servant, upon a battered steed?
Late at night, I toss and I turn and I dream of what I need..."

Thank you, Bonnie Tyler.

Cornettoninja · 20/11/2023 21:34

how to spot trolls in the forest

aha, that’s where we went wrong - all ours went to Eton then some voters thought it’d be a laugh to stick them on the front benches of parliament.

Roussette · 20/11/2023 22:21

Just sayin' the thread is coming to the end....
I'm hopeless at thread titles!
