Long term decisions for a brighter future.

Arguing for the executive to have more power with reduced checks from the judiciary seems rather turkeys voting for Christmas when you're about to heavily lose a general election.

Well yes. They are dim.

Did anyone hear Thought for the Day today? Richard Harries really letting rip.

Yes, I did a little cheer for him in the car on the way to work.

I paid poll showed that the government have a net satisfaction rating of -67. I think most of the 13% satisfied might be putting in shifts on MN.

I think large parts of the Tory right still think that the red wall that went Tory in 2019 are still nailed on supporters for the next GE. And they only need to build from that.

It's a common misconception that happened to Corbyn supporters in between 2017 and 2019. "Corbyn did better than thought in 2017; in 2019 GE we can only build from there"

It's all delusional.

The 13 percent seem to be likely racist. And that's creepy in terms of the posting here.

So the game is draft the emergency legislation. Suggest Labour are the problem rather than yet more badly thought out/overtly authoritarian expensive policy which will achieve diddly in reducing small boats crossing the channel. Pretend they don't have a majority in HoCs.
And then call an election claiming Labour backs small boats or something.

And all because a certain faction in the Conservative Party (and associated R/W think tanks) are desperate to get rid of Human Rights Act etc in order to reduce checks and balances.

Small boats as a stalking horse for Singapore on Thames.

Yep. Brexit - Act 2
Fucking sick of the lot of them.

DuncinToffee · 17/11/2023 16:28

I am not surprised AdamRyan, there are a lot of posters hiding behind 'middleclass snobism'

I have seen a few clips from last night's Question TIme where 2 women basically saw refugees drowning in the channel as collateral damage.

Lady in purple, "I don't agree with pushing back the boats.. But why can't the French get a knife and deflate the boats before people get in them"

Fiona Bruce, "It's a big coast line"

Lady in purple, "Drones?"

Lady in scarf, "Shouldn't we push the boats back to France to stop the traffickers?"

Fiona Bruce, "Are you worried about people drowning?"

Lady in scarf, "A lot of people are drowning in dreadful circumstances.. On the other hand, you know, why shouldn't, are the French rescuing as many people and taking them back to France, as we're rescuing and bring them in to the UK? I don't know"

Edited

It’s down to 20% now. Still appalling.

Just misread that as going after politics next. Which would be a nice change athrr than just chasing the bigot vote. How about a bit of broad appeal Rishi? I think you'd find it helpful.

Oh, I wondered why I had a YouGov poll about potholes!

These people seem to be really hard of thinking.

It's not a crime to leave France. It not a crime to have a dingy on a French beach. It's not a crime to get in that dingy and go to sea. It's not a crime to cross into British waters if you're seeking asylum. It's not a crime to not rescue people who absolutely do not want to be rescued until the cross into British waters. It's not a crime to accompany a dingy full of people who don't want to be rescued because you're worried things will get worse for them.

It absolutely is a crime to not rescue people in your waters who need and want to be rescued.

bombastix · 17/11/2023 17:48

They are just racists. I challenged one of the pro Conservative Suella fans on here. She couldn't say she agreed, but Suella has a point. Apparently.

These people are fellow travellers of this Powellite woman. They are contemptible.

RafaistheKingofClay · 17/11/2023 17:48

Apparently some Tories are coming round to the idea of a snap election on small boats.

Bring it on.

What did he say?

He was highly political but the main thrust of the piece was that the law must always be permitted to hold government to account because that is the Christian thing to do. It was pretty inflammatory stuff, I imagine there will be some complainst from Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells. I on the other hand was like the ranks of Tuscany and could scarce forbear to cheer.

Zonder · 17/11/2023 18:19

Thanks @pointythings I'll have a listen.

To be fair, round our way there are a lot of potholes to go after.

Its almost as though not investing in preventive maintenance for years is a bad idea.

See also for example, sure start, and a host of other victims of the Tories austerity.

RafaistheKingofClay · 17/11/2023 18:35

Tbf who could have predicted that if you don’t maintain the roads there will be lots if potholes? I think you are expecting too much.
