Beth Rigby

👀 Senior Conservative source tells me there is talk in parliament of a meeting of the New Conservatives group later today and agenda item is Suella leadership play.

Apparently she is planning to "eviscerate" Sunak. I don't think she's bright enough.

AdamRyan · 13/11/2023 13:53

I think Coffey was offered a move and turned it down.
She's awful though so not too bothered.

This feels a bit like the end of Johnson with people resigning right left and centre. It's ridiculous.

The 15th since 2010 Shock

And they are struggling to find a 16th according to Steven Swinford.

It’s Cameron. Just like it was Lord Douglas Home in the 70s.

But he can't take part in debates in the HofC or answer questions there, can he?

"Had to stop watching and do some jobs - do we know why they have resigned?" @Zonder

"Being told that one of the reasons a significant number of Ministers are asking to step down now is because ACOBA rules require 6 month hiatus before taking up certain jobs. Clearly believe we’re looking at May election."

What jobs would they be?

The question is, do the ERG have enough people to write letters to force a leadership contest.
Presumably they will be busy trying to remember if they can count.

What always surprises me about the Tories is that it's them who've given us three female PMs and one non white PM.

This is not surprising at all. Most of them don’t actually appeal to their demographic, and allow the government to actively work against the interests of their demographic and that is how they remain palatable.

All manner of big companies seem to need highly paid advisors with connections for a few hours work each week.

Housing minister Rachel Maclean has been sacked as part of Rishi Sunak's reshuffle.

Reform for renters rights was due this week.

Why remove someone when you dont have a replacement ready?

RafaistheKingofClay · 13/11/2023 14:13

Barclay to Defra.

rumours are Victoria Atkins for health then.

Which will be our 5th health sec in 2 years. Lucky the health service isn’t in crisis.

I think that must be right. S he went into no. 10 through the front door, and apparently you only get invited in that way if the PM is planning to offer you something. If he's planning to boot you, it tends to happen in decent privacy behind the scenes.

I wonder if Larry the Cat had a say in it? He seems to be unimpressed.

Nothing to boast about, really, given that they booted out all three women and are currently doing their best to do the same to Sunak.

Let's hope that that means his deputy, 30pLee, is sacked also.

Roussette · 13/11/2023 14:29

I wonder what position Coffey was offered but turned down?

Please let 30p be gone gone gone

Despite Therese Coffey’s letter suggesting she felt the time was right to leave Government, I understand she was asked to leave by the Prime Minister. It was not a choice.

And Victoria Atkins is new health secretary, as rumoured. She's married to Paul Kenward, the MD of British Sugar, incidentally - one of the world's largest suppliers of sugar cane and sugar beet. Might make for interesting chats over obesity strategy, sugar tax and so on.

Has Coffey gone? Honestly this was the wrong day to go out for lunch!

bombastix · 13/11/2023 14:54

This is all a bit late to appoint moderate Tories which is what he is doing; perhaps the Conservatives won't be completely massacred.

There was a poll over the weekend that said Labour would be looking at a majority of over 200. Maybe that finally focused some minds away from the hard right sniff the Tories have been on since 2019.

Zonder · 13/11/2023 14:55

I need a round up of what happened in the last two hours!

Long term strategy. Lose this election and rebuild by moving party back to centre. Pretty sure this only works if the right don’t oust Rishi either before or after the election. If that happens then the Tory members could put anyone in as leader. Probably Braverman. Bit of me hopes that might happen.
