Suella Braverman statement

“It has been the greatest privilege of my life to serve as home secretary. I will have more to say in due course.”

I bet she has......

She can crawl back under her rock thank you

People are extremely upset about the aggressive marches, the shouting jihad, the masked ‘demonstrators’, the intimidation by numbers. This is about telling the UK they will take over, the far left supporters are just useful idiots

What is your evidence for that? The polls suggest otherwise.

Re: Saturday’s March, I thought the government in question was Nétanyahou’s.

However it’s ridiculous to suggest that a station like Victoria should be too dangerous for anyone during a march. If that is the case then the march is obviously not safe and should not be allowed to go ahead.

Well, the fact is that it wasn't too dangerous even for Gove. So your point just doesn't work.

Notonthestairs · 13/11/2023 09:28

Pretty sure Braverman is delighted.
She can come right out into the open now (as if she wasn't before). She's not interested in the next election - it's all about getting the leadership now.

Cornettoninja · 13/11/2023 09:29

Fucks sake. Just call a general election.

this is ridiculous. Incompetence was bad enough but this is just farcical. If you’re scrapping wood chips off the bottom of the barrel just admit where you are!

He laid the wreaths next to her yesterday.

That's because he is (or was) Foreign Secretary.

How much of a party will there be left to lead when the job becomes vacant?

the80sweregreat · 13/11/2023 09:31

Just call an election Rishi and put us all out of our misery

She can get on with being a racialist from the back benches like Powell. I think she is irredeemably soiled by her article. It was that bad

I wonder if Sunak also had a preview of the decision in the Rwanda case?

Good point. That’s definitely a possibility.

CallMeDave to be Foreign Secretary? The ERG will be furious. He's not an MP though. How could that work?

We've found out this morning (most of us) that he can be made a Lord, and then they can give him any job they want!

Passepartoute · 13/11/2023 09:37

I despise Cameron for the whole referendum mess, but I can see that appointing him would not be a stupid idea. One of the main defects with Sunak's cabinet has been lack of experience, including lack of experience in opposition, because Johnson basically got rid of all the ministers with any sense. This begins to remedy it, and it's particularly important to have someone experienced in the FO currently.

Plus it's pleasing that Sunak hasn't been stupid enough to promote Jenrick.

BBC are suggesting that Braverman was sacked from the government outright because she made it clear she wouldn't accept a more junior post. No surprises there.

TokyoSushi · 13/11/2023 09:39

Pippa Crerar (Guardian Political Editor, v reliable) says on Twitter that Cleverly is the new Home Sec, so seems possible that they will make Cameron the Foreign Sec

Thank you Tokyo

It's an admission from Sunak that his current bunch of ministers are a disaster.

Oh God, the amusingly inappropriately named Cleverly - was he really the best Sunak could find? Yvette Cooper will have him for breakfast.

mibbelucieachwell · 13/11/2023 09:45

James Cleverly home sec

mibbelucieachwell · 13/11/2023 09:45

OOPS, sorry for the x post.

TokyoSushi · 13/11/2023 09:46

Twitter seems pretty sure DC is the new Foreign Sec, crikey.

LittleBowSheep · 13/11/2023 09:49

Well the return of Cameron is certainly a turn up for the books. I'm still angry about Brexit but I believe that he didn't think Leave would win.

After the turmoil of the last few years and the 'rise' of idiots like Braverman and Jenrick etc, I think it's actually quite a good idea to bring DC back in. Steady the ship type approach.

I'd be surprised if it was actually Sunak's idea though. I don't credit him with that much intelligence.

I bet Boris will be fuming.
