What is with lip fillers?!? They look so fake and awful

Fanofan1 · 06/11/2023 11:51

i’m probably showing my age (I’m in my 40s) but am I alone in thinking the lip filler look is just awful?

I see them all over social media and in real life when I’m around people in their 20s. Why? They look so fake.

I know it’s not our fault as women. We’re manipulated into thinking our bodies and faces are never good enough. But lip fillers are so ubiquitous and look so, so bad, I just don’t get it.

Yes, the examples I gave were what fakery entails. So, where have I said that a woman with a face full of fakery can't be a sincere and genuine person?

I asked what people thought of Dolly Parton, not what they thought of you.

You just fell into the trap that people have fallen into for 50 years, thinking Dolly doesn't know how she looks and that the joke's on her.

BarryTaylor · 07/11/2023 15:50

5128gap · 07/11/2023 15:48

It depends on the comment in question. Example?

My comment about fake lips and Botox, for example.

Why do you care if women have lip fillers?

Ever since Dolly made that remark I've known exactly what she meant by it (I thought the meaning was obvious, by the way) so your reply doesn't make any sense.

Why do you care if women have lip fillers?

Why does anyone, including people in this thread, care if women have lip fillers? Aren't I allowed an opinion on it?

Me: "What do people think of Dolly Parton?"

Sir Whatever: "She based her look on a SEX WORKER!"

Barry: "Hahaha! That's so funny! Hahahaha!"

Me: "You didn't know that? She's famously open about it. But she's also talented, sincere and self aware. But I see that some people really can't see anything past the fact that her look isn't natural."

Barry: "I never said fake looking women can't be sincere! When did I say fake looking women can't be sincere?? I didn't say it, you can't prove anything! What, she knows about her look? Yeah, yeah, I knew that! I totally knew that!"

Yes, that post was more unacceptable from a man. A poster asked another woman to explain what she meant by 'classy'. To which you, a man, pipe up with a list of negatives, expressed in insulting terminology.
I know its a public forum and I know you have as much official right to post your opinion as anyone else, but just because you're allowed to, doesn't mean you should. And I do question the attitude of a man who thinks its appropriate to chime in to answer that question, and not even in a positive way, but as a further opportunity to be insulting about some women's looks.
How women present themselves and why, the issues around that, and the judgement they recieve, is a topic of interest and relevance to women for a whole bunch of reasons, whichever side of the debate we're on, and I'm interested in hearing what women have to say on the subject even if i disagree.
What I'm not interested in, because it adds nothing of value to the discussion, is men popping up purely to insult women's looks. I'm sure there are other forums for that if it floats your boat.

Ilovelemonandsugarpancakes · 07/11/2023 16:12

I've been considering .5ml for ages but I'm too scared!

Though I do think they would look better - mine upper lip has gone so wrinkly!

So, aren't I allowed an opinion on it?

I haven’t said you can or can’t have an opinion, I’ve just asked: why do you care about women having lip fillers?

Are you unable to answer?

Just listen to yourself. "Just because you're allowed to, doesn't mean you should". I would never, ever, dream of saying that to a woman about any discussion whatsoever. Could you be any more odious? Get over yourself.

I've already given you an answer - "I merely have an opinion, just like every other poster on this thread." 🤦🏻‍♂️

Will you be asking all the other posters who're replied negatively, and sometimes disparagingly, why they care?

But you would tell a predominantly female forum what men find unattractive, then call a woman "odious" and tell her to "get over herself" when she responds critically.

Yes, given the context.

BarryTaylor · 07/11/2023 16:28

Yes, given the context.

And there was context to what she said to you.

Actually it seems funny to me that you would be so offended at being told that you have a right to express your opinion but it might have behoven you to withhold it on this occasion, since the topic affects women.

SpicedAppleAndFreshCider · 07/11/2023 16:35

Classy means stylish and sophisticated - it's nothing to do with class as in working/middle etc.

So I maybe did use the wrong word as I meant more natural. You can still have your hair cut & dyed, wear make-up and have your nails done.

However, I completely agree that women are different and some prefer to have work done. Some of the work does look natural. Some of the work doesn't.

Dolly Parton was a pretty woman and chose to present herself as she does as she got older. She made a hell of a lot of money with her talent and looks. Many of us know the story behind it even though one poster thinks we didn't and it's just her's and Dolly's little secret from the world.

Did @5128gap reply to any other poster in the way that she replied to me? No. Because apparently, as I'm a man, just because I'm allowed to doesn't mean I should. It's blatant sexism.

SurprisedWithAHorse · 07/11/2023 16:40

You can still have your hair cut & dyed, wear make-up and have your nails done.

Why, thank you.

But isn't it interesting that everyone does something that isn't natural and is fake to an extent... but thinks the level of fakery they land on is the benchmark of stylish and classy? And it's only people who land further out who are the ones who have failed?

(Dolly comment is truly ludicrous, btw...my point was literally that she's always been totally open and public about it, ffs.)

No, because she was literally talking about the dynamics of you being a man making these comments about women's looks.

Is this all it takes for you to be a victim? Flaming Nora, Barry.

I thought the Dolly comment was funny and yes it was aimed at you.

You do love an argument.

*You can still have your hair cut & dyed, wear make-up and have your nails done.

You're welcome. These are natural as you do tend to still look like yourself and aren't pumping shite into your body.

SpicedAppleAndFreshCider · 07/11/2023 16:49

I've just said I used the wrong word.

That isn’t an answer though is it? ‘I just do’ is the sort of thing my 5 year old says.

So you don't agree even in principle then that there are times when just because we are not prevented from doing something, it doesn't mean we shouldnt reflect a little and decide that maybe we still shouldn't? That there are times when our contribution may not be useful, relevant or appropriate? That just because we can, we shouldn't bulldoze and bluster our way in to any thing we're not barred from throwing insults as we go? So, if I were to chime in to advise you on your ED in insulting and derogatory term, after you'd asked another man about it, that would be OK with you fir example?

Because if you do and I was as fond of hyperbole as you, I might call that 'odious'. But as I'm not ill stick with arrogant and insensitive.

Er, I didn't question that it was aimed at me. It was obvious. The only "funny" thing about it was how you could see me saying "Dolly has always been famously open about this" and think that I was actually claiming it was a secret. That's sort of funny, in a "makes no sense" or "whoosh goes the point" way, I suppose.

These are natural as you do tend to still look like yourself and aren't pumping shite into your body.

It's clear from the photos shared by many posters that they still look very much like themselves.

It would appear that, like many people, you are fine with fakery up to the point of injectables, as nail polish etc clearly isn't natural. Your perfect right, of course, but plainly it isn't "fakery" you have a problem with. You're fine with your own brand of it.
