What is with lip fillers?!? They look so fake and awful

i’m probably showing my age (I’m in my 40s) but am I alone in thinking the lip filler look is just awful?

I see them all over social media and in real life when I’m around people in their 20s. Why? They look so fake.

I know it’s not our fault as women. We’re manipulated into thinking our bodies and faces are never good enough. But lip fillers are so ubiquitous and look so, so bad, I just don’t get it.

Someone will be along in a minute to say you can’t tell they are filled, it’s only bad filler you can see.
I agree with you though. And they don’t move properly either so people with them often look/sound odd when speaking.

YANBU

I've never known anyone to look good with lip fillers, no matter how 'well' it's apparently done.

YorkieTheRabbit · 06/11/2023 12:03

I dislike the look too. So much of the lips, eyelashes and makeup I see these days remind me of drag queens 🤷‍♀️

Ivegotsunshineinabag · 06/11/2023 12:04

Mine look amazing - thank you very much.

Mine look amazing - thank you very much.

Can you put your money where your mouth is and show us?

JamSandle · 06/11/2023 12:07

I dont get it either. They're so vile!

ThickSkinnedSoWhat · 06/11/2023 12:08

The ridiculous eyelashes like 2 giant caterpillars equally irritate me. Especially when you see them on teenagers 🤦‍♀️

Sconehenge · 06/11/2023 12:09

I totally agree - and I am very pro botox and filler and profhilo and all that jazz - but have seen about 2 people whose lip fillers look good and everyone else it’s sooo aging. I think I would consider lip filler in my 50s if I’m losing my natural lip volume but I don’t think lip filler to change the shape of your natural lips is ever a good idea.

Prove it…

Mystro202 · 06/11/2023 12:10

I think that maybe a small amount is ok but the problem is that for some the results are addictive and they can't stop as it gives them a buzz. This results in the fake, drag queen look.

winniethepooped · 06/11/2023 12:11

I went to a shopping centre the other day and every single young, middle aged and older woman had their lips done it seemed!! Terribly done, so many resemble an allergic reaction and or a marshmallow flump inserted under the top lip. Which is odd because it's not the actual lip that has been plumped. It looks ridiculous!!

I blame Kylie Jenner!

Deadringer · 06/11/2023 12:12

I couple of women I know have them done they aren't massive or anything but they are still really obvious, they speak differently too, it must affect the way the mouth moves or something.

Sartre · 06/11/2023 12:13

I don’t think they look great either but then I don’t really wear much make up generally. It’s just another fad like no eyebrows or big eyebrows or a massive bum. They all fade eventually.

Purplecatshopaholic · 06/11/2023 12:13

Each to their own I say!

wensleywhale · 06/11/2023 12:13

A family member has had it done, very very slightly, but because I know her so well, I could tell instantly.

Didn't look bad per se but it was really disconcerting

wensleywhale · 06/11/2023 12:13

Purplecatshopaholic · 06/11/2023 12:13

Each to their own I say!

It's so gross to look at though

Lovelillieshatetroubles · 06/11/2023 12:14

They look awful. Women look so much nicer natural and without them. I blame social media/love Island/influencers, etc. The younger generation are overly obsessed with appearance at such a young age. It prematurely ages them; I wonder what effect it'll all have when they're older. I'm really pleased I'm a millennial without filters at a young age! Thin eyebrows are very different to changing your face. These people are young, they don't need filters either!!

MrsSkylerWhite · 06/11/2023 12:14

Not something I would do.

Manadou · 06/11/2023 12:14

They look dreadful. 'Duck-mouth' DH and I call it. Plus all that eyebrow stuff that women have done. And don't get me started on those plastic fingernail things.

CanIPetThatDawg · 06/11/2023 12:15

If everyone around you has a certain look it starts to look normal. And aspirational. Because people like to follow trends.

If you go to Beverly Hills you’ll see lots of women (and plenty of men too) with their lifted and tucked and filled faces, that’s their normal. Plonk them in a Swindon town centre and they wouldn’t look so normal.

ChienneDesFromages · 06/11/2023 12:16

UdderlyPumpkin · 06/11/2023 12:07

Can you put your money where your mouth is and show us?

Never has the phrase ‘put your money where your mouth is’ been more appropriately used!

There is a lip filler place near my office and the poor women go in looking normal and come out looking preposterous.

Why anyone feels the need to inject all sorts of nonsense into a perfectly lovely face is utterly beyond me.

happyl · 06/11/2023 12:17

a school Mum has lip fillers. But honestly she looks like she has had a severe allergic reaction. It's just disfiguring.

YabbaDabbaDooooo · 06/11/2023 12:17

Ivegotsunshineinabag · 06/11/2023 12:04

Mine look amazing - thank you very much.

No they don't and I can tell you that without even needing to see them.

But if they make you feel better, that's all that matters.

Someone sent me this a couple of days ago after a similar conversation

StarDolphins · 06/11/2023 12:18

I think they look awful & have never seen a good result. Even someone that said they’d had a tiny bit to look natural! They just never do imo.
