Please tell me where! I've been to the Isle of Wight and looked in all the places I was told about, no luck. Same to a place in Scotland they apparently live in the garden, nowt. Please help me see one!

Whifell Forest Centre Parcs 100%. Take a bag of Ark red squirrel food.

The greys haven't gone west of the Shannon in Ireland. I have reds in the garden of my holiday house (also pine martens who as a pp mentioned are thought to pick off any greys quite easily). Red squirrels are very shy and cautious though so even though they are in my garden they generally stay up high in the trees as much as possible and I only catch occasional glimpses.

When I was a child all this was fields there were only reds in Dublin too, but that was a long time ago. Now there are loads of greys where I live.

Isle of Wight several times, running across a road, also at Ventnor Botanic Gardens and the best views from a hide in the grounds of Quarr Abbey

Kinoull Hill, Perthshire.

NotFastButFurious · 03/11/2023 18:28

Yes!
formby squirrel reserve
around Aviemore and Carrbridge
a caravan site just outside Dunoon

Spareus · 03/11/2023 18:28

@stripybluesocks no, would like to. Seen a white one though 🤍

Mouseplant · 03/11/2023 18:30

Nope. Even walked around Brown sea Island for a day hoping to see one...nothing.

Was just saying to DH today, that it's weird that so many new kids books still feature red squirrels when most children will never ever see one.

StBrides · 03/11/2023 18:30

Yes, lots but I live where they do!

They're pretty shy, much shyer than greys so you just need to be patient and watchful.

AbbeyGailsParty · 03/11/2023 18:32

France.
Also sanglier and their babies in the fields and lanes

Saisong · 03/11/2023 18:33

My family get them in the garden (Anglesey)

toycat · 03/11/2023 18:33

Berlin 🤣

Mummyme87 · 03/11/2023 18:35

Yes. I saw a squashed one in the road and one on our decking in center parcs - Penrith.

StEtienne93 · 03/11/2023 18:35

Yes, there were loads in a cemetery in Germany. I got very excited as it's the only time I've seen them.

purplecorkheart · 03/11/2023 18:36

Yes in a small town park outside Paris. It must have been a rare sighting as loads of people stopped and watched.

motherstongue · 03/11/2023 18:40

Daughters old school in very rural Perthshire has loads. Sign at the entrance says “slow down, red squirrels” to make all drivers take extra care.

ErrolTheDragon · 03/11/2023 18:41

Reds at Formby and in the Lakes.

Black in Cambridge. Blacks are mutant greys not a different species I think.

Wallywobbles · 03/11/2023 18:41

We have them in lower Normandy too.

RovenderKitt · 03/11/2023 18:41

Yes at Center Parcs Whinfell

Kdubs1981 · 03/11/2023 18:42

Cumbria. Centerparcs at Whinfell is riddled with them

FoleyHuck · 03/11/2023 18:42

Come to Jersey for a few days and spend some time along the 'railway walk' or around the Zoo and I'd be surprised if you don't see one. They're regulars at our Parkrun Grin

We don't have any greys here, so the reds run riot.
