Please tell me where! I've been to the Isle of Wight and looked in all the places I was told about, no luck. Same to a place in Scotland they apparently live in the garden, nowt. Please help me see one!

Whinfell Centre Parcs, you can't move without tripping over one.

We went to Formby in 2016 and there were plenty to see, we were there out of peak times, didn't have a dog, and hung about being quiet.

Lots on Mersea island (Essex)

Yes I grew up the Lake District and had a family living in the tree next to my bedroom window. It was a long time ago now and they have receded to small more remote areas.

Is there? Well I never! I’ve lived in Essex, not too far from Mersea, for 30 years and I never knew that!

Finteq · 10/11/2023 14:23

Been tp centreparcs in whinfells afew times.

Usually see at least 1 ot 2 each trip

scrunchmum · 10/11/2023 14:28

Brownsea island - been twice and seen then both times (multiple the second visit)
It's also a nice little boat trip and wander so not a wasted trip even if you didn't see one!

PurpleFresias · 10/11/2023 14:30

yes, seen them several times (Scotland), Cowal peninsula and Cairngorm NP area where they visit my friend's garden

LlynTegid · 10/11/2023 15:07

Brownsea Island the most recent. I am old enough to have seen them in my garden in the 70s and 80s.

ALongHardWinter · 10/11/2023 15:11

I saw several, many years ago when I was on holiday on the Isle of Wight.

Anglesey, specifically Plas Newydd (National Trust place). They have a woodland walk where we usually spot a few.

Exactly the same place!
Despite usually loud children!

I've seen black squirrels in eastern Europe.

GerundTheBehemoth · 10/11/2023 15:27

Have seen them on Brownsea Island, but most of my sightings have been in Abernethy Forest in Highland (spent a fair bit of time there doing wildlife photography, very much hoping to see Scottish wildcat but I didn't). Several of the Abernethy ones had blonde tails.

They've not been there that long - reintroduction project that began in 2012.

Book a holiday in Centre Parks, Whinfell in the Lake District and take nuts as the red squirrels come up to the back door looking for them. They’re delightful.

If you want to see black squirrels then Ontario, Canada is got you. They have grays and reds too.

ShutTheDoorBabe · 10/11/2023 15:33

Snaiseholme (?) in North Yorkshire. One buried its hazelnuts right in front of my foot.

Yes, we went there when we were on holiday and saw loads, they were running across the path and over our bags

BogRollBOGOF · 10/11/2023 16:03

Brownsea Island and Blarney Castle in Co Cork.

People take photos of them and feed them loads so they're not afraid of humans.
