Have you ever seen a red squirrel?

Please tell me where! I've been to the Isle of Wight and looked in all the places I was told about, no luck. Same to a place in Scotland they apparently live in the garden, nowt. Please help me see one!

I'm from Liverpool and didn't see a grey squirrel til I was in my 20s on a trip to London!

Germany (near black forest) we have red ones and black ones. I love them and literally do the "squirrel!" thing.

I have seen them in Formby/ Southport area although quite some years ago now.

I've seen them in Ireland, but they aren't like the greys - they zap out of sight as soon as they become aware of you.

Seen red squirrels twice: a pair of them on a fairy leafy residential street in Ryde on the IoW, and another on the outskirts of Shanklin, again IoW. Hope you get lucky one day, OP.

Brownsea Island. Your best chance is if you pay the extra to go in the little nature reserve - loads of them there :)

The black ones here are a variant of the red ones, they're the same size/shape, not like grey ones.

Yes - at Brownsea island, Kielder forest, the Highlands of Scotland and on Deeside in Aberdeenshire.

Yes I have. I'm in Northumberland, the local red squirrel group is very active and has erected fantastic over head squirrel rope over some of the roads to help them cross, though ive never witnessed any using them. My favourite sighting was on a cycle track near an aldi while walking home from work. It was perched on a fence in the distance, jumped down and ran along the grass all the way up towards me and carried on running past me to a tree. It was so close I was fumbling around trying to take a picture. There were other people on the cycle track but they were oblivious.

Definitely recommend Whinfell Center Parcs, and Yorkshire Arboretum at Castle Howard, who have a few in an enclosure (large and not cage like) as part of a breeding programme. I've also seen them around Aviemore.

I had to do an emergency stop near Hawkshead in the Lake District once. Drove round a corner and one was sitting right in the middle of the road. There are some just outside Grasmere too, along the Coffin Road.

I've also seen them on the Isle of Wight a few years ago.
