Do you find extremely muscular men attractive?

I see a lot of stuff about body acceptance for women, some insanely popular instagrams featuring very large women and clothes, etc. This is great, and I support representation of all body types. I then wondered about men, how they don't ever seem to glorify or share images of being larger bodied. Only muscled bodies.
So I presume men are less accepting of themselves as 'fat' whereas women are becoming more progressive and accepting?

It is obviously a very popular trend for men to build excessive muscle, perhaps way more, in the general sense than any other time in history, but i have wondered how many women like it? I guess this is objectifying the male body, but I am more interested in it as a trend.

I personally prefer a Bruce Lee or yoga toned type male body to a 'built' one, and can't relate to the whole bulging muscle thing. As a straight woman who is attracted to men, anything more than natural kind of turns me right off, sexually, although of course not as a person.

What do you think?

I think they look uncomfortable in their bodies, as if they can't move easily, muscles in the way.

They look narcissistic, which is very unattractive- and I wonder if they're taking steroids.

Hamburger233 · 04/11/2023 14:48

I love it, but just not too extreme.

So I suppose - I like muscular men, but not extremely muscular.

Pls note that if you see a pic of a body builder in competition, he or she will have done various things before the competition to make themselves look significantly more muscular/defined. They won't look like that off stage/unbronzed or while not competing etc.

Jason Momoa, Chris Hemsworth, Joe Manganiello, Alan Ritchson, the Rock (though he's may be a bit too vascular) etc. are smokin.

A bit less bulky like Alexander Scarsgard, Justin Hartley etc is delightful (!) too.

There is a sweet spot.

Nice!

I could find myself rewatching True Blood episodes after searching for that 😁

Mytholmroyd · 04/11/2023 15:15

Yes 😂 I remember seeing a video of Jason Momoa climbing a wall and that really did it for me!

Branleuse · 04/11/2023 15:18

I dont find it especially attractive, but if my husband got into bodybuilding, im sure id like it then and would be supportive.
I have a relative who is a competition bodybuilder and he is so dedicated. He loves the challenge and is not stupid at all. Its just what hes into. He doesnt judge the rest of us.

Horrible. Like a load of walnuts crammed into a pair of tights, and shaped into a person.

😂😂this is so brilliantly descriptive

Blinkityblonk · 04/11/2023 15:20

Arnold Schwarzenegger yes, everyone else no.

I was on a body building forum for a while; the male "lifters" are varied, just like in any sport/hobby.
There are plenty of intelligent, well adjusted men.

I would say that it becomes a very absorbing hobby, in terms of diet, gym time etc. One of the guys with the best physiques on there says he's 6 days in the gym, one rest day max. But then lots of hobbies are like that eg cycling, marathon running.

It's true, as someone said, that BB is not actually great for your health - unlike some other sports/hobbies.

Maybe young.

But knowing his personality and values turns me right off.

Nope, nope, nope. Wouldn’t do it for me at all!

Each to their own.

Blinkityblonk · 04/11/2023 15:56

@Hamburger233 what is it particularly you don't like about his politics? I know he's Republican but he didn't vote for Trump and he was married to a Democrat for a long time. I'm sure he's very narcissistic, I still fancy him though, after watching the Arnold docs on Netflix.

filthypride · 04/11/2023 15:56

I'm more of a 'if you can't make me laugh or hold a decent conversation' kinda person.

Only one of my exes has had a muscular body the rest have been pretty normal.

Right now, can't be too fussy, single AF!

Mytholmroyd · 04/11/2023 16:01

@filthypride yes of course - Totally agree but that's real life not our Fantasyland 😂

exerciseviligance · 04/11/2023 16:02

No. I don't think the bodybuilder look is attractive to look at, and I assume (maybe wrongly) that they'll be excessively vain and self obsessed.

My fantasy man definitely in my dreams would have a chunky, solid build gained by a physical job or just playing sport. I don't find skinny men attractive, I'd rather slightly overweight than under.

Comedycook · 04/11/2023 16:07

No i don't find big body builder types particularly attractive. Some muscle is definitely attractive though.. particularly arms. I'm not keen on very thin men. I'd rather have a man who is a bit overweight than underweight.

Comedycook · 04/11/2023 16:09

Ha... didn't realise I'd said virtually the same thing @exerciseviligance

Feralgremlin · 04/11/2023 16:19

Another vote here for the rugged rugby player type! Also a fan of Jason Momoa.

I’m probably projecting but when I think of the general “bulging muscles” type of man, I just think of whopping great egos, which I find incredibly unattractive!

filthypride · 04/11/2023 16:24

@Mytholmroyd

In that case I'll take Pink and Harry Styles.
Both very athletic bodies.😂

Holidayhell22 · 04/11/2023 16:26

No.
My ideal is toned and slim with low body fat.

Blinkityblonk · 04/11/2023 15:20

Arnold Schwarzenegger yes, everyone else no.

I used to work in a hotel on Cape Cod not far from the Kennedy Compound, and Arnold Schwarzenegger used the gym/pool a few times when some kind of repairs/renovations were being done at the house, so I had the experience of encountering him in the flesh in swimming trunks. Ugh.

Whoever said ‘a condom filled with walnuts’ was spot on.

This was about 1994.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 04/11/2023 16:32

No, not at all. There are characters I find attractive, played by actors who are very muscly, but I tend to find them attractive in spite of their build rather than because of it. It's fine when they've got all their clothes on, but I find big bare slabs of muscliness a bit off-putting.
