Do you find extremely muscular men attractive?

I see a lot of stuff about body acceptance for women, some insanely popular instagrams featuring very large women and clothes, etc. This is great, and I support representation of all body types. I then wondered about men, how they don't ever seem to glorify or share images of being larger bodied. Only muscled bodies.
So I presume men are less accepting of themselves as 'fat' whereas women are becoming more progressive and accepting?

It is obviously a very popular trend for men to build excessive muscle, perhaps way more, in the general sense than any other time in history, but i have wondered how many women like it? I guess this is objectifying the male body, but I am more interested in it as a trend.

I personally prefer a Bruce Lee or yoga toned type male body to a 'built' one, and can't relate to the whole bulging muscle thing. As a straight woman who is attracted to men, anything more than natural kind of turns me right off, sexually, although of course not as a person.

What do you think?

I like taller men, and I don't mind if they're skinny or chunky, but definitely not the bodybuilder "massive muscles" look. It not only unattractive in itself (to me) but also puts me off because it suggests the man spends all his time in the gym or having protein shakes, obsesses over his appearance, and might expect me to be similar.

GG1986 · 03/11/2023 11:29

I love a dad bod!

LubaLuca · 03/11/2023 11:30

I don't like the bodybuilder look on men or women. Useful muscles are nice, or a bit of podge, whatever. I just don't like anything that's 'for show'.

I like to see muscle tone on a man’s body but don’t like the huge bodybuilder look. Sometimes their biceps and lats are so big they look like they’re carrying a roll of carpet under each arm. And many of them have have poor posture with a rounded upper back (maybe resulting from overworking the chest). A lot of them also seem to go in for waxing/shaving their body hair which is a big turn-off for me. And I definitely couldn’t live with someone who was obsessed with their macros/micros and constantly eating raw eggs and protein shakes.

I like the kind of muscle tone that results from sports/physical labour/yoga/swimming.

I also have a soft spot for tall, skinny, gangly men (I see Jarvis had a mention upthread- that’s the kind of thing I’m talking about) but skinniness tends to look better on younger men. In middle age, even the skinny ones can develop a pot belly and I don’t find that very sexy on a skinny frame.

My husband is muscular but that is because of his job which involves a lot of heavy lifting 10 hours a day so he does way more than someone just going to the gym for a few hours. His body shape is very different to men who work in an office but go to the gym regularly.

In terms of attraction I think physical looks are far less important than personality.

Yes mine too! I love strength in a man but it's more about what they can do rather than what they look like - stiffness and inflexibility is not attractive at all.

Have you seen the videos on ?Instagram about the 'skinny' guy masquerading as a cleaner in gyms and just going up and moving with one hand massive weights the big muscley guys were struggling to lift and they are all flabbergasted? I don't think it's staged - anyone know? Apparently he is a genuine strong man in disguise.

I find muscles really unattractive. I like nice skinny men, preferably with long hair. I've never been attracted to anyone with short hair.

Hahaha yes me too. I like skinny effeminate men, the kind who'd look genuinely pretty and waif-like if you put them in make-up and a dress. I find traditional masculinity a turn off in most of its forms, tbh, including bulging muscles.

Onethingatatime23 · 03/11/2023 12:19

If anything physically I like really good strong legs. It wouldn't have been a deal breaker for DH but I was impressed when I saw his calves! Probably as my legs are muscular as well.

rantinglunatic · 03/11/2023 08:42

Have you stood close to one!? I wouldn't have thought I would find it attractive but up close it exerts a powerful primal animal attraction even if person inside body is massive narcissistic body building twat!

I don't feel that. Lucky really as I go to the gym three times a week!

MrsSlocombesCat · 03/11/2023 12:23

The same. Bulging muscles look horrible whether male or female.

KnitFastDieWarm · 03/11/2023 13:24

I think men (and women) of all shapes and sizes can be very attractive, but i’m always drawn time and again to shortish, wiry men - think rugby fly half, or rock climber. I do like a lovely v-shaped torso (especially if it’s hairy!), but overall i prefer the kind of muscle that comes from just being active generally, rather than being specifically built (it can look a bit try-hard).

Isn’t it nice that we’re all different in our tastes? There really is someone for everyone

As a man I've noticed that many women seem to not be visually turned on by men and I've heard lots of women admit to finding womens bodies more sexier (even tho these same women still end up dating men). Lots of women also watch lesbian porn and dont want to look at naked men unless we give them an emotional connection.

I've read posts about women (who are married to men) admitting that women are sexier and that they find the male body boring

Borageandchips · 03/11/2023 13:47

Mammyloveswine · 03/11/2023 10:48

I like a tall, broad teddy bear of a man! With dark hair, beard and a very hairy chest!

Me too!

Also, I am slightly suspicious of anyone - man or woman - who exhibits too much obsessive dedication to the cause of looking good.

I like big shoulders, hairy chest, don’t mind a bit of a tum in a man as long as he is tallish.

Username4939210 · 03/11/2023 13:59

@Apossum yeah many women here calling muscular men "repulsive" but then I've heard lots of women on here and other places like reddit talking about how they find the male body unattractive. Many women seem more visually aroused by womens bodies and seem to find women more sexier but yet they still end up dating us, thats because women love male attention.

They dont seem to care about our bodies and they all seem to prefer looking at naked women rather than naked men

OutsideLookingOut · 03/11/2023 14:23

I like the make form. I like lean, lightly muscular and well defined abs. I can appreciate the effort a man has taken to get a muscular body even if for me it isn't attractive. I the the determination/grit is attractive.

Verv · 03/11/2023 15:54

Muscular male bodies are the only male bodies that I find attractive.
Jason Statham, 80s/90s Sylvester Stallone, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Momoa etc.

QPWO · 03/11/2023 16:03

I find an over muscled look very off putting too. I love masculine shoulders, from skinny but man-shaped, to naturally toned from a general active life, to slightly on the chubby side but still manly. And long manly arms are lovely to look at. But pile too much muscle on those lovely shoulders or arms and it looks cartoonish at best, threatening at worst. I also dislike the peacocky walk of men who want to pretend their lats are so massive that their arms will no longer lie flat. It’s ridiculous and would put me immediately off an otherwise sexy man.

Userengage · 03/11/2023 16:23

That photo a PP posted on page 2 of Jason Momoa is my ideal body type in a man, that flat stomach, broad muscled chest and those guns get my mercury rising. There are a few of that type in my gym and they look fabulous to me.
Most of you seem to prefer a dad bod so that leaves me with loadsa choice and for that, I thank you.

SirChenjins · 03/11/2023 16:50

You are very welcome.

I don't think women get into committed relationships with men because they like the attention. That's a very juvenile idea to have. I think that the way men and women experience attraction and arousal is different though. Personally I don't get aroused by every man I see just because he might be muscular. But if I fancy a guy I will check out their body. I love a good solid butt on a man and toned arms. What I am never attracted to is bulk.

DeadButDelicious · 03/11/2023 17:26

I have always tended toward skinny, pale men, usually tall but I'm not overly fussed on that (DH isn't tall for example), with very long hair. I am not usually a fan of muscles. However I would have made an exception for Pete Steele.

I guess I am a basic bitch but this is my ideal

emmetgirl · 03/11/2023 17:30

Not really but I don't like a man to be skinny tbh

Username4939210 · 03/11/2023 19:03

@GigiAnnna or they are attracted to mens personalities/money, it makes me feel ugly and unattractove as a man when I hear lots of women admit to finding mens bodies boring unless they emotionally connect with a man.

Where as im sure many women here will watch lesbian porn and prefer looking at naked women because "women look sexy while guys dont".

LuluBlakey1 · 03/11/2023 19:04

No.
