Do you find extremely muscular men attractive?

I see a lot of stuff about body acceptance for women, some insanely popular instagrams featuring very large women and clothes, etc. This is great, and I support representation of all body types. I then wondered about men, how they don't ever seem to glorify or share images of being larger bodied. Only muscled bodies.
So I presume men are less accepting of themselves as 'fat' whereas women are becoming more progressive and accepting?

It is obviously a very popular trend for men to build excessive muscle, perhaps way more, in the general sense than any other time in history, but i have wondered how many women like it? I guess this is objectifying the male body, but I am more interested in it as a trend.

I personally prefer a Bruce Lee or yoga toned type male body to a 'built' one, and can't relate to the whole bulging muscle thing. As a straight woman who is attracted to men, anything more than natural kind of turns me right off, sexually, although of course not as a person.

What do you think?

Triangle bodies? No thank you! Body builders especially have never done it for me.

@Hamburger233 what is it particularly you don't like about his politics? I know he's Republican but he didn't vote for Trump and he was married to a Democrat for a long time. I'm sure he's very narcissistic, I still fancy him though, after watching the Arnold docs on Netflix.

It's the sexual assaults and cheating on his wife with their housekeeper (and fathering a child with her).

I wasn't even thinking about the politics.

He's also a fairly terrible actor.

I'd rank male body aesthetics in this order of appreciation;

  1. Muscular, as in Captain America/Thor/Rocky I/50s Swords and Sandals epics (usually included some bodybuilders in the cast), etc
  2. Golden Era Bodybuilders
  3. Physically fit/active job
  4. Bronze/Silver Era Bodybuilders
  5. Dad that likes exercise bod/Dr Hulk
  6. Dad bod/Overweight/Fat Thor
  7. Skinny ripped
  8. Thin and weedy

If not a darker skin tone naturally, some sign of having been outside occasionally rather than the highest amount of light they've ever seen being from a 40w BC and having at least a passing acquaintance with vegetables helps. As does actually smiling.

That is admirable dedication to the cause @NeverDropYourMooncup what is gold/silver /bronze Era?

Body building muscled men - no.

Muscles through sport - ie fit and healthy men, yes. Eg tennis players.

Yes this is the one.
DH is a pro sportsman so he is incredibly fit and well muscled without it looking overdone.
Plus because it's his 9-5 he doesn't actually have to spend any extra time 'in the gym'
It's a win win.

Oh, I definitely paid attention!

It's the 'ideal aesthetic' of each period in the discipline - Golden was from about 1960-1980-odd with people such as Frank Zane, Schwarzenegger, Lou Ferrigno, etc, Silver around the 40s - 60s with Steve Reeves, etc, Bronze prior to that.

Whilst steroids were absolutely used in Golden Era, there was still an intention to look like a human, rather than later when it became just pure mass that mattered - I suppose an analogy would be found in the change in livestock art from 'this is a cow' to the massive slabs of Bull in 19th Century paintings that reflected and influenced selective breeding (and later, also use of drugs and intensive farming). Or a large, fit dog to the look of an XL Bully.

The Mass Era onwards has men as the XL bullies of Bodybuilding in my opinion - and a bloated, beachball like abdomen due to the size of the muscles, huge striations, gynaecomastia, being unable to walk without struggling for breath and far too many of them dropping dead isn't something that ever appealed to me.

Mytholmroyd · 05/11/2023 12:54

@NeverDropYourMooncup thanks! I didn't know that. I definitely prefer a sleek wolf to an XL Bully! 😂

My husband is muscular, not bodybuilder level but certainly defined, with abs. He goes to the gym about 3/4 times a week for about 45 minutes and eats healthily, although still happy to share a bottle of wine/takeaway occasionally.

I think it’s great to be honest and I love that he looks after himself especially now he’s mid 30s and getting older. I’d way rather that than have him sporting a pot belly and slobbing on the sofa all night or off on six hour cycling trips.

This.

The UFC Fighter is the ideal healthy, fitness look...

Lessstressedhemum · 10/06/2024 14:53

The Rock, Jason Momoa, Henry Cavill, Chris Hemsworth, the most gorgeous men alive.
I love a good bit of muscle. Not the veiny, striated steroid look but good, strong, well defined development. There is nothing sexier than a well muscled, tapered back and shoulders.

Couldn't agree more!
