Do you find extremely muscular men attractive?

I see a lot of stuff about body acceptance for women, some insanely popular instagrams featuring very large women and clothes, etc. This is great, and I support representation of all body types. I then wondered about men, how they don't ever seem to glorify or share images of being larger bodied. Only muscled bodies.
So I presume men are less accepting of themselves as 'fat' whereas women are becoming more progressive and accepting?

It is obviously a very popular trend for men to build excessive muscle, perhaps way more, in the general sense than any other time in history, but i have wondered how many women like it? I guess this is objectifying the male body, but I am more interested in it as a trend.

I personally prefer a Bruce Lee or yoga toned type male body to a 'built' one, and can't relate to the whole bulging muscle thing. As a straight woman who is attracted to men, anything more than natural kind of turns me right off, sexually, although of course not as a person.

What do you think?

I like longer hair too, and liked the trend for little boys with hair when I was a child, as opposed to the army look that is more popular now. I suppose the scruffy mop on adult males is my favourite, as opposed to arse length.

Musclesvare very attractive- make fat or skinniness is a big turn off

RandomUsernameHere · 03/11/2023 03:44

I find big muscular men distinctly unattractive, they just look ridiculous.

I didn't use to but now I see it differently for the 30s-40s range. Getting and maintaining a physique requires effort and commitment, which most men seem to lack. They're just drifting around aimlessly, grumpy and drinking themselves into early health problems, or depressed and hiding upstairs instead of putting a wash on or reading to their kids.

So although I agree that most gym bunnies are self obsessed tedious narcs, I do admire a man who is older and has chosen to get his health on track and has the body to show for it. That is very attractive in showing he has some level of focus and determination left to give.

Body building muscled men - no.

Muscles through sport - ie fit and healthy men, yes. Eg tennis players.

Nepmarthiturn · 03/11/2023 04:30

The vast majority of people are attracted to people that look healthy because of biology. Most people don't find overweight people attractive. Men generally haven't been trying to convince themselves that they do like this particular group women have been.

NeunundneunzigHorseBallonz · 03/11/2023 04:35

Do I find muscular men attractive? Yes and no…. There is a difference between being fit, healthy and confident in your own skin and the steroidy-vain (Big Bird-coloured) body builders that in reality seem insecure and are doing this to compete with each other.

This. And with women the same applies. People who look healthy are attractive. It is biologically ingrained. Women look most attractive to the largest proportion of people when they are slim and athletic and toned, as do men, for obvious reasons. Fake muscles built with steroids look odd and are not the norm for what is innately considered attractive, and neither is fat. This applies to both men and women. However, it is also obvious that cultural influences can convince some people to overrule normal biologically-driven preferences for a whole host of reasons, as has happened in various contexts in history.

Natsku · 03/11/2023 05:08

Very muscly men give me the ick. Not a look I like. Fit and toned though, sure, because healthy is good.

junbean · 03/11/2023 05:13

Not at all. I find it gross. I prefer a medium size guy, fit but not overly so. I like some cushion.

Jewelanemone · 03/11/2023 05:25

Horrible. Like a load of walnuts crammed into a pair of tights, and shaped into a person.

mjf981 · 03/11/2023 05:35

Not at all. It gives me the ick.

Most of them are self obsessed and spend hours in the gym preening. And many of them are on steroids and have limp dicks because of it.

sammylady37 · 03/11/2023 05:36

No, I find them utterly repulsive.

Agreed. Sadly due to ill health, I don’t look healthy.

Edit - I meant to add, no, I do not like the muscular look at all.

Onethingatatime23 · 03/11/2023 06:06

I don't like the body builder look but someone who works out and/or plays sport and keeps themselves fit to a moderate but not obsessive degree usually looks a bit better than someone who doesn't.

I wouldn't assume everything (or that very much at all) men do is to attract women though, and would be angry at anyone who thought I was going to the gym for a man's benefit. I do it to look after myself.

StarlightLady · 03/11/2023 06:10

Not for me!

Loulou599 · 03/11/2023 06:15

Reading through the comments isn't it what we would have called "shallow" or "bodyshaming" in men?

I think you can say you don't like muscles without being disparaging.

I also don't believe women don't like muscles, it's what separates us from men. Maybe it is a confidence thing? Maybe if you aren't in shape yourself a muscly man would just make you feel insecure

lwishyouwould · 03/11/2023 06:17

Not a fan of the gym bunny at all. I don't find the physique attractive but I also wouldn't enjoy the lifestyle.
I find the running/gym/lifting obsessives so boring and it interferes too much with social time.

Genuinely don't find it attractive and I'm not sure why that's hard to understand.

I also think it's ok to say you aren't attracted to a particular body type. I wouldn't date a very short man because I'm tall. I have and didn't like it.
Is that a bit shallow, yes I'm sure it is but that is allowed.
I guess I could meet a short man I'm very attracted to and it would matter less but it's unlikely.

SnapdragonToadflax · 03/11/2023 06:23

Doesn't appeal to me at all. I don't really care about a man's body, beyond the extremes of anorexia or severe morbid obesity. I suppose given a choice it would be a lean, wiry rock star type body, but it wouldn't attract me on its own. It's all about the face (and hair, tbh). And the ability to make me laugh.

I don't like very tall men (6" 4+), it makes me feel claustrophobic. Don't really care about height otherwise though, I've dated someone shorter than me (5" 6) and someone who was about 6" 2, and everything in between.

megletthesecond · 03/11/2023 06:29

No. Extreme muscles aren't healthy. From what I understand they eat ridiculous protein "diets" and don't do any cardio.

Dentistlakes · 03/11/2023 06:29

It depends. I like muscle definition, so the level of muscle you could achieve naturally. So the physique similar to a competitive swimmer with a bit more muscle definition.

In reality, as long as someone isn’t grossly overweight, it’s more about their personality than their physique, which is lucky since my DH of nearly 25 years certainly isn’t muscly!

RedCoffeeCup · 03/11/2023 06:31

I like skinny men best. DH has a BMI around 19.

LimboNovember · 03/11/2023 06:34

Absolutely not. The only men I found muscle and attractive where surfers

Neurodiversitydoctor · 03/11/2023 06:41

As my late great GMIL would have said "isn't it wonderful we are all different ?". Some one out there are everyone.
