What form has your midlife crisis taken?

What odd decisions or big changes have you made?

I think I've had 2. At 40 I very nearly had an affair. I did the right thing and walked away eventually, but it brought about quite a lot of change in my life as I realised what actually made me tick, rather than what I'd always accepted/been told I wanted from life.

In my early 50s I've suddenly become adventurous and impulsive, in my clothes, my work, travel, doing loads of things I wouldn't have dreamt I was capable of.

About to walk away from my career with nothing to go to with two young children

SeaPool · 27/10/2023 17:39

I gave up a professional career, retrained , moved from the city to a seaside town, got a dog and started my own business.

DustyLee123 · 27/10/2023 17:50

Piercing. Had one more in one ear, about to have two higher up, and fancying a nose piercing as well.

DRS1970 · 27/10/2023 17:52

I gave up working.

LearningTo · 27/10/2023 17:52

Ended my relationship. Vowed to never live with anyone ever again.

Started wearing mini skirts.

Got rid of 3 unsuitable friends.

Far more assertive and no nonsense.

Got into home beauty treatments regimen.

Updated my wardrobe in general.

MysweetAudrina · 27/10/2023 17:53

Stopped taking shit, exercising my righteous rage and learning to rely on my intuition again.

PokeyLaFarge · 27/10/2023 18:08

I simply don't spend time with people I don't like
I don't do what I don't want to do
It's been incredibly freeing :)

Foodorder · 27/10/2023 19:34

I started saying Yes. Completely against MN wisdom, but I've found a world of opportunity if you never turn anything down.

I had a surprise baby ( found out at 25 weeks) so I'm too busy for a full blown midlife crisis right now 😂

RubyBoozeDay · 27/10/2023 19:37

I stopped being a people pleaser. It's made my life a whole lot better.

I'd love to say I dyed my hair purple and bought a Harley though.

I did travel SE Asia by train though, I wouldn't have done that as a younger woman.

SmugglersHaunt · 27/10/2023 19:38

Currently in the middle of a freakout. Turned 50 this year but for some reason feel like I’ve gone completely off the rails in the last two months. Is this a crisis? 🤔 feels like it

CharlotteRumpling · 27/10/2023 19:43

Solo travel in various dodgy countries.

Spinnymop · 27/10/2023 19:48

I've gotten quite into isopods lately. It started with dd collecting a few in the garden and keeping them in a pot. We now go to reptile and bug shows to buy rare species and spend an alarming amount of time researching isopod diet and husbandry. These are 3 of the species we keep. Rubber duckies, ember bees, and crystal pineapples.

@Spinnymop that is absolutely lovely and fascinating!

Morewineplease10 · 27/10/2023 19:56

No crisis here - not of my own doing anyway. My ex blew our family apart with his.

Contemplating a tattoo...that's it!

fancyfrogs · 27/10/2023 20:01

@Spinnymop what cool names! 😁

Sids81 · 27/10/2023 20:02

@Spinnymop i used to play with these in the garden when I was small and then I grew up and forgot about them. You have just reminded me how fascinating they are and whilst I was about to go down the Botox route as my crises, I think I shall be getting some isodpos instead. 😊

CharlotteRumpling · 27/10/2023 20:07

I want to take up open water swimming next year.

Doyouthinktheyknow · 27/10/2023 20:08

I’m as boring as I’ve ever been! No mid life crisis here I don’t think.

I do care less what people think of me. I guess I feel more confident professionally.

We’ve started going on cruises🤣 The most boring mid life ever🤣

TeenLifeMum · 27/10/2023 20:09

I got a second piercing and started a uni course - level 7 pgdip. Stupid idea! 😂😂😂

assignedmeowth · 27/10/2023 20:09

Spent about £5k on tattoos between age 38 and 42.

Busydayahead · 27/10/2023 20:10

Getting rid of friends who treated me badly.

Stopped being a people pleaser.

Excerising, beauty treatments. Doesn't harm anyone and I feel so much better in my fifties then I did in my twenties.

Enjoying life and having a more work/home balance.

Darklane · 27/10/2023 20:10

Seriously many times considered what it would be like to walk into one of the deep, dark, cold, remote, lonely reservoirs on the moors where I live & walk my little dogs.

Yep. In the past 18 months or so I've re-pierced old piercings in ears so now have 3 in one lobe and 2 in the other, a helix piercing, and a secret nipple piercing.
Oh and I got a new tattoo when my last ones were done 20+ years ago.

MargotMoon · 27/10/2023 20:11

Here for ideas 😁
