What form has your midlife crisis taken?

What odd decisions or big changes have you made?

I think I've had 2. At 40 I very nearly had an affair. I did the right thing and walked away eventually, but it brought about quite a lot of change in my life as I realised what actually made me tick, rather than what I'd always accepted/been told I wanted from life.

In my early 50s I've suddenly become adventurous and impulsive, in my clothes, my work, travel, doing loads of things I wouldn't have dreamt I was capable of.

i wish I had the confidence of some PP though, I’m filled with terror and questioning my decision daily!

Do you take vitamin B complex and magnesium ? Might be worth a try, lots of supplements to try until you get to the magic 45.

I’ve just turned 50 and I’ve finally had the courage to stand up to my controlling father. I’ve shocked the whole family and I could not give a flying fuck.

I have started writing fiction again after a twenty year break and have joined a writing group which I am really enjoying.

daffodilandtulip · 28/10/2023 22:19

38 walked out of my secure, professional job. 39 started my own business. 40 got a dog. 43 now and I'm happy so I think that's a drastic as it gets...

Bookist · 28/10/2023 22:33

Had my hair cropped pixie short and a tonne of silvery ash highlights.
Bought a falling down farmhouse in Italy to renovate, very.........very.........slowly.
Threw out nearly all of my clothes and all of my heels. Now very happily following the Dark Academia trend.

meringue33 · 29/10/2023 06:24

I’ll try… thanks!!

ErnestCelendine · 29/10/2023 06:35

Over the year I turned 45, I started therapy (life changing), meditation (struggle with this) and parkrun (best thing about Saturdays). I also changed jobs to a better paid yet less stressful one.

My wardrobe went to shit over lockdown so that's next on the list.

ErnestCelendine · 29/10/2023 06:36

Oh yes, and I got a referral for an adhd diagnosis. I hope the second half of my life makes more sense than the first!

Blahblablahblahblah · 29/10/2023 06:57

Great thread. Mine started at 44 and is still going. Outwardly things look the same, inwardly I’ve developed a skin care (addiction )routine. Scaled back on life laundry. Taken up biking and skiing. Stressing less about the constant juggle of life. Exercising more and prioritising rest, It’s boring but I feel better.

Countrydiary · 29/10/2023 07:32

Great thread. I’m only 37 but I’m definitely heading into a mid life crisis. One of my good friends is already there so we spent a crazy amount on going to see Taylor Swift next year. I feel much more dramatic changes building though!

I’ve also thrown my heels away. Comfy shoes all the way now !

LouLou198 · 29/10/2023 07:40

Started my own business at 39, stopped people pleasing and going places I didn't want to go. Took up knitting Grin

Melaniais · 29/10/2023 15:23

Turned 40 this year. Started to go for facials every 1.5 month or so. Invested in serums and high end make up. Started to dye my hair (never done so before). Also started to play tennis, jog more regularly, yoga. Stopped pleasing people or seeing people I don't like or don't feel comfortable to be around. More chatty and comfortable around people I like. Now, trying to set my mind into changing my job and getting out of my comfort zone. Higher than ever sex drive unfortunately not matched with my husband so need to be careful

Therealme647 · 29/10/2023 15:46

I currently feel invisible and angry, and I feel like DH is detached and doesn’t see me, just someone who he can have sex with and who makes his life easier.

Not quite sure how this is going to play out tbh, we have had an incredibly shitty few years each which aren’t over yet.

Yes, I'm in a similar situation. I'm feeling stuck for various reasons. Trying to extend my social life and circle.

It's old. Roof is shit. Comes with one thousand olive trees and a totally blocked up septic tank. But it will be beautiful. Have been out there half a dozen times this year. It's like a drug x

OriginalFloorboards · 30/10/2023 07:52

Agree with what you said @LadyBird1973 I had piercings at uni, took a professional job so let them go and now I’m retraining I’m going for it. I was just never brave enough to do this once I’d started professionally working.

I went for the helix but my riding hat meant I couldn’t have it so I’ve randomly had the Tragus done and I love it!

My husband is unimpressed but f**k him. I feel like at 50 the young, true, me is coming back out only much more confidently and after the recent loss of my father to cancer I am doing what I want to do.

I’ve got tests on Weds through the cancer pathway myself on my breast. I kind of know I’ll be OK as I’ve had cysts there before but part of me is definitely on the ‘now or never’ path.

I showed my horses my Tragus and I’m sure they loved it…although I’ve also asked them not to spook at a leaf when out and drop me, ha.

DJSteves · 03/03/2024 17:45

Moved from the UK to Saudi Arabia

OceanicBoundlessness · 03/03/2024 18:08

Op, I like the idea of having two. I quite enjoyed my last one after the first four months of none stop crying.
I wouldn't mind having another.

Badgerandfox227 · 08/04/2024 01:42

Nervous breakdown - well OCD actually, coming out the other side after 3 years of hell

definitely give a lot less fucks than I used to

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 08/04/2024 08:32

I took up pole dancing in January just before turning 38. I love it and it’s definitely increased my confidence and super toned my body which has increased the attention I get from men. This is not a good thing as I’m married but is fun!
